Abstract
I attended my field/industrial attachment at Thika Cloth Mills as part of my degree
programme’s achievement. Going to the field away from the classes was not just important as
a necessity but also important towards exposing my personality and training me while
preparing me to the work expected in the outside world after college degree. This attachment
report aims at giving the feedback to my institution ,Moi University school of education , department of
Technology Education. The report highlights the importance of field
attachment to me as a student, the structure and organization of my place of attachment, my

experience at the place of attachment, knowledge and skills obtained at the site of attachment as well as
the strengths and weaknesses of the site of attachment. The report also acknowledges the very
important parties that made my industrial attachment and the submission of this report successful.
Most importantly, the report will address the SWOT analysis of the site for the attachment and the
necessary recommendations.
Introduction
Experience and in addition exposure ,I would agree with the English man that ,they are the best teacher.
Little did I know the benefits of the field attachment ,and so I thought it’s time being wasted ,given that
after school you will be doing the very se things you do during the attachment period. That was my
perception ,and I was wrong. Having an experience with the entire process from seeking the
attachments chances to being under guidance by a supervisor ,has seen been learnt a lot ,from
character enhancement to acquiring new knowledge. This being and academic ,it’s intentions a purely
for the goodwill to building a wholesome individual who can be productive ,reliable and dependable as
resource. First of all the opportunity given to each student by the school to go out there and find places
for attachment by themselves has a great impact towards improving the confidence of students and
creating a network with others outside school. I was among those who were successful in finding a place
for attachment through the help of friends, and I successfully landed a chance with Thika Cloth Mills in
Thika for my attachment. There are three things that guided my everyday attendance to the site of
attachment; one was to practically learn about of electricity in production, secondly was the desire to
nurture ethical and interpersonal skills for a successful career development and finally to meet new
friends.
Thika Cloth Mills is located in the industrial area along the industrial road in Thika town in Kiambu
County Kenya. Below the Google map location coordinates.
This company is categorized in the textile industry dealing with processing of raw cotton and polyester
to real cloth materials.
The following are the departments in the industry;
Human resource management department.
This department deals with management of the company’s workforce and their welfare headed by the
personnel manager
Spinning department
This department has other subsets which it oversights
Reception of cottons bales and cleaning
Spinning to obtain the required threads through various machines
Mixing of cotton and polyester to obtain different quality of the cloth material as per clients
specifications.
Weaving department
Deals actual knotting and treatment of the weaved cloth material to improve quality.
Processing
Includes dying of the cloth material, ironing, printing resizing and packaging of the cloth material for
market.
Engineering department.
This department has three sunsets;
Mechanical engineering
Automotive engineering
Electrical engineering

Objectives
This field attachment is aimed at;
1.Exposing the student attaché into the actual work practice of the content learnt in class.
2. Enable growth of problem solving skills in real life challenges
3. To acquaint the student with practical knowledge and technical know how in the field of specialisation
4. Nurture social skills applicable in the field in the student.
5. Develop collaborative skills in the learner.

Electrical Engineering department
The E.E department is subdivided into three sub-departments. This includes ;
1. Electrical Installation and maintenance

2. Motor servicing and rewinding
3. Break-down
This were my area of work over the eight weeks of my attachment period, what the each having a
supervisor.
