TITLE OF MINI RESEARCH:THE EVOLUTION OF SOCIAL MEDIA IN AI ERA

INTRODUCTION:

In accordance with the passage of time, AI technology has developed rapidly in the industry
of the world as well as the country. Not forgetting that AI technology has also been
introduced in social media. Accordingly, various new features have been introduced due to
the development of AI in social media.This mini report explores the evolution of social media
in AI era.

BACKGROUND:
The term “artificial intelligence” (AI) was first used at a Dartmouth College conference in
1956.AI emerged as an academic field in 1956. The main goal of AI is to enable machines to
perform complex tasks that typically require human intelligence.(H.CHEN L.LI, Y
CHEN,2020)

Artificial Intelligence(AI) began to significantly impact social media in the early 2010s.As an
example platform like Facebook and Twitter started using AI to personalise content
feeds,showing users post s that match their interest based on their activity(Synthesio,2023)

PURPOSE:

-To explore how Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies have involved and been integrated
into social media platforms.

-Examining impact on users experience.

OBJECTIVE:

-Assessing user satisfaction such as personalized content feeds and recommendation


algorithms,affect user satisfaction and enjoyment of the platform.

-To suggest some recommendation of AI update to make it more satisfy to the users.
CASE STUDY

FINDINGS:

BEFORE AI
 At first, social media existed to help end users connect digitally with friends,
colleagues, family members, and like-minded individuals they might never have met
in person.(MARYVILLE UNIVERSITY,2020)
 Launched in 1999, LiveJournal lets users create a personal blog, journal or diary and
share these posts with their friends and community. Users can also list other members
as "friends," but this has limited functionality and doesn't need to be reciprocated as
on Facebook. It is more like following someone on Instagram or Twitter. (Madeleine
Streets)

AFTER AI
 Facebook does almost everything on its platform like proposing your content,
recognizing your face, suggesting friends, and targeting ads to users through advanced
machine learning. Facebook uses a variety of AI tools to heighten each user’s
experience.(S.DATTA 2019)
 Instagram identifies and suggest visuals and images using artificial intelligence. The
first way that Instagram uses artificial intelligence is seen on its Explore page.(
CASE STUDY

ANALYSIS AND DISCUSSION:


The finding shows the difference between before and after Ai technology was introduced in
social media. According to the data obtained, it was found that there are various new features
in social media that can be achieved with Ai technology. In addition, communication and
information sharing can be done in various new and more interesting ways with the existence
of this technology. Because of this, the evolution of social media in the AI era happened very
rapidly because it brought various conveniences to social media users

RECOMMENDATIONS:

The evolution of social media in the AI era presents both significant opportunities and
challenges. As AI becomes increasingly integrated into these platforms, the potential for
highly personalized experiences, enhanced user privacy, and immersive interactions grows
exponentially. However, this evolution also requires a careful balance between innovation
and ethical considerations. Ensuring transparency, protecting user data, and promoting mental
well-being are crucial for maintaining trust and fostering positive online communities. In
another perspective, AI can cause various slander and fraud. However it also depends on us
on how we use AI whether good or bad. Ultimately, the future of social media in the AI era
will depend on the responsible development and deployment of AI technologies, shaping
platforms that are not only engaging and inclusive but also safe and respectful for all users.
