Styles in a document
Question : List the style categories in Writer. Select the style from the
Styles and Formatting window.
Answer : Categories of Style:
1. Page Style : It defines basic page layout like page size, its margin,
placement of header and footer, footnote, borders and background.
2. Paragraph Style : A paragraph begins and ends by pressing enter key.
It’s formatting includes Tab shops, Text alignment, Line spacing and
Border.
3. Character Style : By this, we can change the appearance of a part of
a paragraph without affecting the other part.
4. Frame : A document can be organized in sections, so that each
section can have a different appearance. They are like containers,
which can hold text, lists and graphics.
5. List Style : It can be used to style lists by putting numbers or bullets
of a different kind or specify numeric format.
6. Table Style : It allows formatting a table by adding borders, aligning
text, inside the table, having different patterns or text colors.
Steps to select the style from styles and formatting window:
i. In document, click on “format” menu in the top toolbar.
ii. Select “styles and formatting” from the drop down menu.
iii. Click on the “styles” tab in the window.
iv. Select desired style and click on “apply”.

Answer :
Following are the steps to use fill format to apply a style in many
different areas :
i. Select the text or area with the desired formatting.
ii. Go to Format > Styles and Formatting [or press F11].
iii. Click on the “fill format” button [paintbrush icon] in the Styles and
formatting window.
iv. Move your cursor to the area where you want to apply the
formatting.
v. Click and drag the fill format to “paint” the formatting onto the new

area.

i. Select the text with desired formatting.


ii. Go to format > Styles and formatting window.
iii. Click on the “New style from selection” button [star icon] in the

create the new style.
Steps to update an existing style :
i. Select the text with the updated formatting.Go to format > styles and
formatting window.
ii. Right click o the existing style in the styles and formatting window.
iii. Choose “modify” or “update style”.
iv. Select “update style form selection” or “Overwrite existing style”.
v. Click “OK” to update.

v. Give the new name, adjust any settings as needed and click “OK” to

Answer :
Following are the steps to insert an image to document from various
sources :
From File :
i. Go to the insert menu.
ii. Select Image > from file.
iii. Browse to the image location.
iv. Choose image file and click open.
From Clipboard :
i. Copy the image [ctrl + C]

ii. Go to the “insert menu”


iii. Select “image” > from clipboard.
From Gallery :
i. Go to insert menu.
ii. Select image > from gallery.
iii. Choose a category or search for an image.
iv. Select the image and click Insert.
From online sources :
i. Go to “insert” menu.
ii. Select image > from Web.
iii. Enter image URL or search an image.
iv. Select image and click “insert”.
From scanner or camera :Connect your scanner or camera.
i. Go to “insert” menu.
ii. Select image > from scanner or from camera.
iii. Follow the scanning or camera prompts.
iv. Click “insert”.
From Drag and Drop :
v. Open the file explorer or image folder.
vi. Select the image file.
vii. Drag and drop it into the document.

Following are the steps to Modify Image :
i. Select the image, Right-click on image and select “IMAGE” or
“PICTURE”.
ii. In the image dialog box, adjust settings like :

- Brightness and contrast

- Borders and shadows.
iii. Click “ok” to apply changes
Following are the steps to Resize image :
i. Select the image and drag the corners or edges to resize.
ii. Use the “size” tab in the “image dialog box” to enter exact
dimensions.
iii. Check “keep ratio” to maintain aspect ratio.

i. Select image and go to image dialog box.
ii. Click on crop tab.
iii. Adjust the crop margins or enter exact values and click “ok”.

i. Go to “view” menu and select “toolbars” > “drawing” to enable the

v. Use the handles to resize or rotate the object or right-click no object
for additional changes.

iv. Click “ok” to apply changes.

Method 4 : Objet properties Dialog


i. Select the drawing object.
ii. Press “Ctrl+ Shift+ O”.
iii. In the object properties dialog, adjust properties and click “ok”.

i. Go to file > new > text document and create a new document.
ii. Design your template :
- Add text, images, tables and formatting as needed.
- Use styles [heading, body text etc.] for consistency.
iii. Save the document as a template :
- File > save as.
- Choose “Libreoffice template” [.ott] as the file type.
- Name your template and choose a location.
- Clicks “save”.
iv. Register the template :
- File > new > templates.
- Click “manage templates”.
- Select “my templates” or a category.
- Click “import” and select your template fiel [.ott].
v. Set template properties :
- File > properties.
- Enter title, description and keywords.
- Click “ok”.
vi. Use your template :
- File > new > templates and select your template.
- Click “create”.

i. Open Libreoffice writer.

iii. Click on my templates.

default.
vi. Click Close

iv. Click edit > track changes > Accept > Reject.

Steps to create Table of Contents.
Answer:
Following are the steps to create table of contents :
Step 1 : Prepare your document.
i. Use the headings from the ‘styles and formatting’ window and
organize your document.
Step 2 : Insert the Table of contents.
i. Place your cursor where you want the ToC to appear.
ii. Go to Insert > Index and Tables > Indexes and tables.
iii. Select the ‘Table of contents’ and click ok.
Step 3 : Customize the ToC.
i. In the ‘table of contents’ dialog box, choose the heading levels
and select the formatting and layout options.
ii. Click ok.
Step 4 : Update the ToC.
i. Right-click on ToC and select ‘Update Index/table’.

Define a hierarchy of headings. Answer : A hierarchy of headings in
defined using the built-in heading styles, which are :

i. HEADING 1 [H1] - Main title or chapter title.


ii. HEADING 2 [H2] – Subtitle or section title.

i. Select the text to be formatted as heading.
ii. Go to Format menu > Styles and formatting window.
iii. Click on ‘headings’.
iv. Select the desired Level [H1-H10].

Answer : Following are the steps to customize the table of contents :
Step 1 : Create a ToC.
i. Place the cursor where you want to place the TOC.
ii. Go to Insert > Table of Contents and index > Table of contents.
iii. Choose a TOC type.
Step 2 : Customize the TOC entries.
i. Right-click on Toc and select ‘edit index/table’.
ii. In the Toc dialog box adjust level to include/exclude heading
levels, modify entry formats like font size and color etc., Use
Step 3 : Adjust Toc formatting.
i. In the table of contents dialog change alignment and indent
settings, select a tab leader style, set spacing before/ after ToC.
Step 4 : Update ToC entries.
i. Right-click on the ToC and select Update Index/Table.
ii. Choose Update Entire table or Update Entries.
Step 5 : Advanced Customization.
i. Use outline and numbering to customize heading numbering.

ii. Apply paragraph styles to Toc, use conditional formatting and


save the document.
