Name a few of appropriate digital applications that adopted by a selected business, describe the

decisions to be made in strategic planning, managerial and operational control. What information
would be required to make such decisions?

The primary motivation for implementing digitalization in today's business landscape is to boost
revenue and create new value-added opportunities. (What Is Digital Business? Overview,
Concepts, and How to Build One, 2024) So, digitalization is crucial for a business to generate
revenue. Digitalization involves transforming a business into a digital enterprise using digital
applications. The term "digital application" refers to any software or program that operates on
electronic devices, including tablets, smartphones, and computer. (Digital applications, 2024)
These software’s or a set of software services are created and designed to perform specific tasks,
to solve problems and to enhance efficiency through digital. In business view, digital application
helps in data processing, information storage and analysis and automation processes. In this
question, we will consider a retail business as our selected business. A retail business is a type of
enterprise that sells items and services directly to consumers for personal use via online or in-
store. (Retail Business, 2023) Retailers purchase products in bulk from manufacturers,
wholesalers, or distributors and then sell them in smaller quantities to end customers. This
business model focuses on the final sale of goods and services to the public. There are some
digital applications that can be implemented into the retail business.

Online-Merge-Offline Shopping
According to Aeon retailer shop, this business is focusing on enhancing its omnichannel strategy
to provide a seamless shopping experience across both online and physical stores. This includes
improving their online platform, myAEON2go as in Appendix 1, by expanding the product range
to complement physical shopping and increasing digital sales. (Integrated Annual Report 2023,
2024) In physical stores, they are introducing more Self-Checkout Counters (SCO) to improve
customer service. To implement these services, Aeon need to choose a right e-commerce
platform or using their own in-house invented platform to operate the service. They are
leveraging technology and experiential retail to adapt to changing consumer behavior,
particularly among younger, tech-savvy shoppers. (Integrated Annual Report 2023, 2024) In
managerial control, Aeon need to revolve in managing product listing, pricing strategies and
daily or weekly promotions to attract customers. Manager also need to decide on several details
such as seasonal discount and inventories level. Yet, customer feedback and in-apps analytic is
necessary for future planning. For operational control, operator need to focus on day-to-day
management of orders customer service, the operation and maintenance of SCO counter, and
maintain the apps technical aspects. Information Required will be the real-time order data,
customer service logs, and user experience feedback.
RFID Inventory Management System
According to Aeon retailer shop in Japan, they are going to improve inventory management by
implement the radio frequency identification (RFID)-upgradeable RF Electronic Article
Surveillance (EAS) systems by Checkpoint Systems. They also will also pioneer Checkpoint’s
RFID robot prototype to automate the in-store inventory cycle-counting process. As a result, this
system can improve inventory visibility and enhance shopper experience. They are aiming to
improve the operational efficiencies with accurate inventory visibility, automating task that allow
the employee to focus on customer-facing activities. To better inventory accuracy visibility, the
source-tagging for apparel and consumer packaged goods merchandise with the RFID and
checkpoint need to implement it. Aeon retail been utilising Checkpoint’s OAT Enterprise
software fully integrated into the point-of-sale and point of exit systems and Checkpoint’s new
UNO RF/RFID label. This will enable Aeon retail to match its inventory with the merchandise
sales automatically. Beside that, it also can help Aeon retail to identify any inventory that left in
the store. This technology can provide a information accuracy to minimize the excess inventory,
reduce out-of-stocks and improve operational efficiencies. Furthermore, the Checkpoint’s robot
will automate the inventory cycle counting process that can reduce the human error insert and
operational cost.

Self-Checkout System
According to Aeon retailer shop in Malaysia, Aeon continues to launch the semi self-checkout
system. The self-checkout system is to encourage customer to choose digital utilities to pay the
bill for better customer experience and shopping time optimization with reduce waiting time at
cashier area. Especially after the Covid-19, self-checkout system helps customers to limit down
the direct contact with other customer in the queue and create a more safety distance. This
system promotes a digital transformation and automatic activities in both operation and business
process from diversified forms of sales method such as myAEON2go Apps, AEON Wallet.
Furthermore, Aeon is currently working on self-checkout system that can let customer use their
mobile phone application to complete the purchases. Customer can scan the ID code of the
product they want to purchase then pay those items directly from the AEON wallet application as
in Appendix 2 without visit any cashier. They can just walk out the store when the payment is
completed. Aeon retailer expected to bring a new and convenient experience to the customer and
bringing them closer to the new shopping trend. This trend also becoming an inevitable trend of
the society in the hypermarket after the pandemic.
