a. Course Description
This course begins with basics of Statistics. It further elaborates various sources of data, depiction
of data and applicability of the measure of the central tendencies and dispersion. Later on the
course emphasizes on the knowledge and applications of the correlation, regression and time series
data in real time situations. Finally, the learners got a chance to acquaint themselves with the basics
of Hypothesis Testing and applications thereof.
b. Course Objectives
1. The objective of this course is to acquaint the learners with various statistical tools and
techniques used in business decision making.
2. The course aims at providing fundamental knowledge and exposure to the learners to use
various statistical methods in order to understand, analyze and interpret data for decision
making.
3. The course has universal utility in terms of making learners future ready for corporate jobs
and entrepreneurial ventures.

The learners will be able:

Module-1
Basics of Statistics Meaning, scope, importance and limitations, applications of inferential
statistics in managerial decision-making.
Module-2
Correlation Significance, types, methods of correlation analysis: scatter diagrams,
Analysis graphic method, Karl Pearson’s correlation co-efficient, rank correlation
coefficient, properties of correlation, concept and problems related to
partial correlation.
Regression Analysis Meaning, application of regression analysis, difference between
correlation & regression analysis, regression lines, standard error and
regression coefficients, introduction to multiple regression.
Time series analysis Meaning, components and various methods of time series analysis.
