COURSE OUTLINE

COURSE TITLE: ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE

Content Standards
The learners demonstrate an understanding of the fundamental principles and concepts in
environmental science, including the definition and major fields of environmental science, the significance
of environmental science, ecological levels of organization, atmospheric layers and their importance, the
evolution of Earth's atmosphere, the composition of atmospheric gases, air pollution, and its sources and
impacts, prevention strategies for air pollution, and the dynamics of the water cycle, including its
significance.

Performance Standards
The learners should be able to:
 Present clear, concise explanations of environmental science fundamentals in written assignments
and oral presentations.
 Create effective visual aids to convey key concepts.
 Engage in thoughtful discussions and problem-solving activities.
 Apply their knowledge to propose practical solutions.
 Collaborate effectively in group projects.
 Demonstrate understanding through assessments.

TOPIC OBJECTIVES
1. Introduction to  Describe environmental science and its definition.
Environmental Science  Identify the major fields of environmental science.
 What is  Explain the importance of environmental science.
Environmental
Science?

2. Levels of Organization  Identify the levels of organization.

 Describe the biological levels of organization from the smallest to
highest level.
 Identify the biological levels organization from the smallest to
highest level.
 Understand the importance of levels of organization.
3. The Layers of the  Identify the layers of the atmosphere.
Atmosphere  Describe the layers of the atmosphere.
 Explain the importance of each layer.

4. The Early Atmosphere  Describe how the atmosphere evolved.

 Identify the gases in the atmosphere.
 Explain the important event that happened in the evolution of the
atmosphere.
5. Air Pollution  Describe air pollution.
 Identify the sources of air pollution.
 Enumerate the impacts of air pollution.
 Cite ways on how to prevent air pollution.

6. The Water Cycle  Identify the relationships among the parts of water cycle.
 Describe the water cycle.
 Enumerate the importance of water.
7. Water Pollution  Describe water pollution.
 Identify the sources and causes of water pollution.
 Cite ways on how to protect our water.

Content Standards
The learners demonstrate an understanding of land pollution, its sources, causes, and protection measures,
as well as waste disposal methods and their importance. They will also grasp the concepts of deforestation,
its effects, and the types of forests in the Philippines, along with the definition and consequences of mining.
Furthermore, students will comprehend biodiversity, its destruction causes, endemic and endangered
species, sources of ozone depletion, the ozone layer, and strategies for its preservation. Lastly, they will
explain the Earth's natural greenhouse effect, identify natural and human sources of greenhouse gases, and
recognize the importance of maintaining balance within Earth's systems to regulate temperature.
Performance Standards
The learners should be able to:
 Accurately describe, identify sources, and understand the importance of environmental issues such
as land pollution, deforestation, mining, biodiversity, and ozone depletion.
 Demonstrate a deep understanding of key environmental concepts related to the causes and effects
of these issues.
 Analyze the pros and cons of certain activities, such as mining, and critically assess their
environmental effects.
 Recognize the importance of environmental conservation and be capable of suggesting and
understanding strategies for protecting the environment, including the ozone layer and greenhouse
gas balance.
TOPIC OBJECTIVES

 Identify natural and human created sources of greenhouse gases.
 Understand that the Earth’s systems keep its temperature
balanced as long as those systems are also balanced.
