Welcome To SoftMaker Office For Android
Welcome To SoftMaker Office For Android
The complete functionality that you know from Microsoft Office or SoftMaker Office on your PC is now available on
your smartphone and tablet via SoftMaker Office for Android.
It uses the Microsoft file types DOCX, XLSX and PPTX as its native file formats. This ensures seamless file exchange
and enables you to edit your documents directly in Microsoft Office without having to convert them.
SoftMaker Office for Android is the only Android office which allows you to work on the go as you would on your
desktop PC.
SoftMaker Office for Android always provides an ideal user experience, regardless of whether you’re using it on
your smartphone, tablet or other Android device.
It offers various user interface styles and automatically enables the style that is best suited to your Android device
upon startup.
Using it on a smartphone
If you are using TextMaker on a smartphone, you will see the following toolbar at the bottom of the screen:
The eight icons in the middle open additional toolbars where you should find all the commands you need in every-
day life. If you need to do something more complicated, the icon on the far left gives you the complete functional-
ity of our word processor in a classic menu.
Using it on a tablet
If you are using TextMaker on a tablet, you will notice the ribbon at the top of the screen, which you may already
know from the Office suite on your desktop PC:
In order to make its use on tablets as convenient as possible, we have come up with a practical feature for the An-
droid version: By tapping on the labels of the individual icon groups, you can expand or collapse them. This enables
you to just expand your most frequently used commands and make the most of the available space.
You may like the minimalistic user interface for smartphones so much that you want to use it on your tablet. Alter-
natively, you may feel that the automatically preselected user interface style does not suit your device perfectly.
In such cases, you can manually switch to a user interface style of your choice. To switch from the ribbon style to
smartphone interface or classic menus, simply tap on any free space of the ribbon and keep your finger pressed for
a moment. Then select the entry User interface from the context menu that now appears.
This will take you directly to the “Appearance” tab of the dialog box Options. Here, you can set the desired style in
the dropdown list User interface:
As you can see, each style is also available in a dark version that is easy on the eyes.
To reach this selection when using the smartphone interface, proceed as follows: First, tap on the “hamburger
menu” icon on the far left of the toolbar at the bottom of your screen. In the menu that now opens, select the en-
try Tools > Options and switch to the Appearance tab in the dialog box Options that appears.
After confirming your selection, TextMaker will switch to the desired style.
Tip: Do you want to resize the user interface elements and their labels? You can also do this on the Appearance tab
of the dialog box “Options”. To do so, simply tap on the User interface size button and select the desired configura-
tion in the dialog box that appears.
As a smartphone user, you have probably already noticed the following icon that “hovers” over your document:
Just tap on it to enable the continuous view. The document is now presented in a simplified view that is ideal for
reading and for making changes to the text. Especially handy in portrait mode: The lines of the text are automati-
cally wrapped – thus saving you from having to scroll horizontally.
Note, however, that some parts of documents, such as object frames and headers and footers, are not displayed in
continuous mode. Thus, it is best to switch back to the standard view in order to check the final layout. To do so,
tap on the hovering button again – the entire content of your document will then be visible again.
Selecting, copying and formatting text
You can change how much text is selected by moving these handles with your finger.
You can then format, cut or copy the text as desired. You will find the relevant functions on the dedicated toolbars
when using the smartphone user interface. These functions appear when you tap on the third, fourth and fifth
icons of the main toolbar at the bottom of the screen:
When using the tablet user interface, you will find the formatting and clipboard commands on the ribbon tab
Home.
Not only can you open and save documents locally on your device with SoftMaker Office for Android, but you can
also access Google Drive, Dropbox and other cloud storages.
It is really easy: Choose Open or Save as. A file dialog immediately appears and lets you access both local and cloud
files.
Tip: If your cloud storage is not listed, you need to download and install the corresponding app of your cloud
provider in the Google Play Store beforehand.
SoftMaker Office for Android provides everything you need to edit your documents on the go – completely free of
charge.
Furthermore, a couple of fee-based functions are available. These include, among others, printing, tracking
changes, EPUB and PDF export and sending documents directly from the app.
These functions are indicated by a small “lock” above their actual icon:
To activate them, either enter the product key of your SoftMaker Office NX subscription or purchase a subscription
to SoftMaker Office for Android in the Google Play Store. Both options can be easily reached by tapping on the icon
of one of the fee-based functions.
