Discussion:

Data was collected by taking two different cuvettes. One called blank would be used to allow us

to zero out the spectrophotometer to get clear results when measuring the maximal absorbance

for the second cuvette labeled as number 5. First, we inserted cuvette #1 into the

spectrophotometer which allowed us to ensure that the spectrophotometer was reading properly,

after getting the reading for cuvette #1 and zeroing it out, we placed cuvette #5 and got our

readings. We would repeat this process every time we would increase wavelength (nm) by 25.

Once the data was collected, we placed the data in a table and calculated the averages. Looking

over the averages you would see that 425nm had the highest absorbance compared to all the

other tested wavelengths.

Lab Homework:

1. I learned that accuracy and precision are not the same thing. Our results for procedure 1

are very precise because the results aren’t the same but they’re close together meaning

that our results are precise, we had some issues with accuracy since there were some

measures/results that were way off compared to other results we obtained.

2. -82.300% error for p200 -46.940% error for p1000

a. What may have caused the percent error would be us not measuring out the right

amount of water we needed to weigh.

3. A fasting patient wouldn’t meet the criteria for diabetes mellitus. My diagnosis would be

that they have very low sugar meaning that they’re hypoglycemic
