The Impact of Artificial Intelligence On Higher Education: An Empirical Study
ABSTRACT:
This research explores the impact of Artificial Intelligence (AI) on higher
education, focusing on its effects on teaching, learning, assessment, ethics,
required skills, and future careers. The study uses a qualitative approach and a
survey of the higher education audience to analyze AI’s influence on education.
The findings highlight its effectiveness in equipping graduates with new skills and
emphasize the need for AI integration in higher education programs. AI can
personalize teaching methods, provide prompt feedback, automate administrative
tasks, and assist in grading and assessment. The study highlights the importance of
considering ethical implications in AI implementation.
INTRODUCTION:
This research article explores the impact of Artificial Intelligence (AI) on higher
education, focusing on previous studies and participants’ experiences, views, and
predictions. AI has proven efficient in various fields, including fighting COVID-
19, rescuing jobs, and improving education systems, making it a crucial area of
study.
LITERATURE REVIEW:
AI plays a crucial role in education and higher education, enhancing filtering,
advertising, and virtual assistants. However, it is often viewed as weak and robust,
with some researchers labeling it as fragile for limited tasks and others as robust
for most cognitive tasks. Despite its importance, the impact of AI on learning and
teaching processes remains a topic of critical-thinking, as further investigation
remains possible.
AI IMPACT ON THE LEARNING AND TEACHING PROCESS:
AI is expected to significantly impact higher education, particularly in enrollment
and curriculum. It is expected to speed up consistency and accuracy in curriculum
and registration, making human sciences and liberal arts majors more popular.
However, the impact is more profound, as AI is replacing lecturers and tutors in
blended learning and e-learning. Professor Roland T Chin from Hong Kong Baptist
University believes AI will revolutionize learning, teaching, work, and decision-
making. Princeton’s Head of Computer Science, Jennifer Rexford, believes AI is
efficient in learning and teaching. AI has significantly impacted the learning and
teaching process, providing deep learning and teaching processes that improve
performance for both tutors and students. AI has made it easier to assess and grade
papers, check for plagiarism, and provide constructive feedback. However, it still
requires human intervention for semantic, pragmatic, and cognitive levels. AI also
offers links to various learning styles, allowing learners to access input anytime
and anywhere. It also enables tutors to select and apply the learning method
taxonomy that the learner needs, highlighting areas for improvement. AI also
reinforces independent learning, allowing learners to access input anytime and
anywhere. AI positively influences education by providing intelligent computer-
assisted instruction, facilitating learning intuition, and providing expert systems to
diagnose and assess learning outcomes.
