I am excited to have you in my Italian Intermediate class!
In this course, students will continue to study the structures necessary to communicate in Italian. This course emphasizes all
aspects of language acquisition by applying interpersonal, interpretive, and presentational skills in real life situations. This course
will be taught in Italian and students are expected to communicate in Italian most of the time during class time. Class time is
dedicated to continue to study and review the grammatical structures and vocabulary. When necessary class time will be used to
discuss articles of various types, also to listening activities from a variety of sources. Language skills are refined through a
variety of oral practice, student presentations, and written work. Listening skills are continuously developed by
viewing and discussing Italian films, Italian songs, videos, and recordings by a variety of Italian speakers.

Required Materials for class each day:

Classroom Expectations:

(1) Respect Me, Yourself, Others, and Your Surroundings

(2) Support the flow of language

(3) Always come to class on time and prepared.

(4) Phone should always be off and put away.


Join the Party! Italian Class is not a spectator sport, and there will be no
watching from the sidelines! We’ll sing, make up stories, create gestures, and it’s
important that everyone participates. Join the party! It’s also important that you
don’t crash the party by speaking English, having side conversations or
distracting/disrupting the class.

Signal la professoressa when she’s unclearThe only time you’re acquiring


Italian is when you are getting “comprehensible input”- that means that you are
listening to (or reading) Italian that you understand. If you are listening and you
don’t understand what’s going on, you’re not learning anything. If I say something
that is unclear, please signal me! I will say it again slower, write the word and its
translation on the board, or clarify. It is my number one priority that you
understand, so help me out by signaling me! Also, help out your classmates.
If you see someone signal for clarification, make the signal too! We’re in this
together!

La Professoressa Allegra’s Classroom Procedures & Policies:


Beginning of class: Please line up outside the door before the bell rings and give the “password” (do not
worry I’ll explain in class) to enter the classroom quietly. Class will start with a bellringer each class.
Please do not be in the classroom if a teacher is not present.

Tardy Policy: You must be in the classroom before the bell rings, or you will be marked tardy. Please
come in without disturbing your classmates, and begin working on the assignment.

If you are absent: Check our Google Classroom. Excuse absence CAN make up for a quiz/test missed
within three days of return to school .
Unexcused absence CANNOT make up for a test/quiz missed.

Academic Integrity: Students will receive a non-negotiable “0” on any assignment in which academic
integrity has been breached.
● You may not copy another student’s work or allow someone to copy your work
● You may not use online translators to write sentences or essays. Only use wordreference.com
● You must cite any website, book, article, etc. from which you gather information.
Discipline Policy: 1st offense: WARNING
2nd offense: Demerit and call home
Cheating :(Zero Grade and a Referral)

Cell phones and ipods: The school electronic policy will be strictly enforced! If your electronic equipment
is in use or is visible during class, it will be confiscated and sent to the office at the end of the day.
