FIRST FRIDAY VIGIL* July 5, 2024

THEME: EMPOWERED BY GOD’S CALL TO LOVE

OPENING PRAYER : (please kneel)
RIGHT: O LORD, our Lord, how awesome is your name through all the
earth!
LEFT: I will sing of your majesty above the heavens with the mouths
of babes and infants.
RIGHT: When I see your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon
and stars that you set in place, What is man that you are
mindful of him, and a son of man that you care for him?
LEFT: Yet you have made him little less than a god, crowned him with
glory and honor.
RIGHT: O LORD, our Lord, how awesome is your name through all the
earth!
OPENING SONG: ONLY A SHADOW (please stand and remain standing for the Gospel
reading)
1. The love I have for you, my Lord, is only a shadow of your love for me; only a
shadow of your love for me, your deep abiding love.(Refrain)
2. My own belief in you, my Lord, is only a shadow of your faith in me; only a
shadow of your faith in me, your deep and lasting faith.
Refrain: My life is in your hands, my life is in your hands, my love for you will
grow, my God; Your light in me will shine.

READING: Jn. 21:15-18

When they had finished breakfast, Jesus said to Simon Peter, [a] “Simon, son of John, do you love
me more than these?”[b] He said to him, “Yes, Lord, you know that I love you.” He said to him,
“Feed my lambs.” 16 He then said to him a second time, “Simon, son of John, do you love me?” He
said to him, “Yes, Lord, you know that I love you.” He said to him, “Tend my sheep.” 17 He said to
him the third time, “Simon, son of John, do you love me?” Peter was distressed that he had said
to him a third time, “Do you love me?” and he said to him, “Lord, you know everything; you know
that I love you.” [Jesus] said to him, “Feed my sheep. 18 [c]Amen, amen, I say to you, when you
were younger, you used to dress yourself and go where you wanted; but when you grow old, you
will stretch out your hands, and someone else will dress you and lead you where you do not want
to go.” 19 He said this signifying by what kind of death he would glorify God. And when he had
said this, he said to him, “Follow me.”
(please be seated)
REFLECTION: We love because, God first loved us. In this vigil, let us sit with the Lord
and in silence, allow ourselves to be immersed in His love. How has God repeatedly
affirmed you that you are His beloved? Rooted in that intimacy of being His beloved, how
is God now inviting you to pass on this love by feeding his lambs? How is He encouraging
you to tend to His sheep? Notice how He is lovingly empowering you to feed His sheep.
SILENT VIGIL
(please kneel)
CLOSING PRAYER: Lord, thank you for empowering us by your love. Continue to
keep our hearts open to your Spirit, that Christ may ever be present and active in
our lives. Guide us toward being life-giving that our communities, our ministries
and the world become a better place. As you have empowered us, may we
empower others, trusting them as you have trusted us despite our lapses and
limitations. Grant us a “daybreak” in which we can illuminate the world with your
Spirit just as Mother Ignacia did during her time. Grant this through Christ, our
Lord. Amen.
CLOSING SONG

1. The dream I have to day, my Lord, is only a shadow of your dreams for me; only
a shadow of all that I will be, if I but follow you.
2. The joy I feel today, my God, is only a shadow of your joys for me; Only a
shadow of your joys for me, when we meet face to face.

Refrain: My life is in your hands, my life is in your hands, my love for you will grow,
my God; Your light in me will shine.
FIRST SATURDAY VIGIL* July 6, 2024
THEME: RENEWED IN CHRIST’S PRESENCE

OPENING SONG: GIFT OF FINEST WHEAT(please stand and remain standing for the
Gospel reading)

Refrain: You satisfy the hungry heart with gift of finest wheat; come, give to
us, O saving Lord, the bread of life to eat.
1. With joyful lips, we sing to you. Our praise and gratitude, that you should
count us worthy, Lord, to share this heavnly food. (Refrain)
2. The Myst’ry of your presence, Lord; No mortal tongue can tell: Whom all
the world cannot contain comes in our hearts to dwell. (Refrain)
GOSPEL READING: Matthew 9:14-17
Then the disciples of John came to him, saying, “Why do we and the Pharisees fast
often, but your disciples do not fast?” 15And Jesus said to them, “The wedding
attendants cannot mourn as long as the bridegroom is with them, can they? The
days will come when the bridegroom is taken away from them, and then they will
fast. 16No one sews a piece of unshrunk cloth on an old cloak, for the patch pulls
away from the cloak, and a worse tear is made. 17Neither is new wine put into old
wineskins; otherwise, the skins burst, and the wine is spilled, and the skins are
ruined, but new wine is put into fresh wineskins, and so both are preserved.”
(please be seated)

REFLECTION: Notice how Jesus responds to the self-righteous questions of the

Pharisees… notice how He draws attention toward that which is of greater value: being
in His presence and to be aware of being with Him.

Prayer is all about being “present” to God. When we get pre-occupied with our own
concerns especially during time of prayer, perhaps it us that need to be invoked before
God – so much so that when we are in God’s presence with no agenda other than to “be
with” God, we are opening a space for God to do something in us.

Prayer renews us that we may be like new wine in fresh wineskins. As we sit in vigil
before our loving God, let us allow Him to renew us and refresh us. What non-essentials
or perceived essentials keep us from being present before God? How is He inviting us to
let go and let God? Notice, how in God’s loving presence, He expands our capacities to
love more, to give and forgive more and to live in greater hope, trust, and joy.

SILENT VIGIL

we be ever mindful of your presence, that our hearts and lives may be
constantly renewed in You. In being renewed, may we pass on Your hope,
your joy and your love in ways most pleasing to You. All these we ask in Jesus’
name. Amen.
Prayer Leader :May our God, recreate us to new life with Jesus. All: Amen.
