Design Statment:
Looking at the library around the Southbank area, I beilve there is a good
opportunity to push our university to become more public and close to the
local community. It also provides a comfortable and functional studying
environment for our existing students. To achieve this target, sensory is the
main consideration that will focus on the "smell." I would create a book-
smell experience around space that makes people feel calm and relaxed and
have the movement to study. Provide a better quality study environment by
upgrading the light fixture and the private space for people who would like
quiet study.

I aim to enhance the study space to become a welcoming and fun studying experience
environment - Griffith Southbank campus library for our students and teaching team.
Considering our existing study environment at the campus, it is an opportunity to improve
the library to be more open, comfortable and welcoming to the local community.
The ceiling is installing rectangle ceiling tiles and the light is
the white colour for all the space (In my opinion, it makes
me feel bored and not have a passion for studying. (Can
add a warm colour to the relaxed waiting space?)

REFLECTIVE ESSAY
I have dedicated my full effort to designing this space, and although it's my first time handling such a large project on
my own, I am happy with the final result.

Throughout the project, I have learned great about the importance of inclusive design. The typological study is new
knowledge for me and a really helpful technique for the design process.

Inclusive design has been a fascinating topic for me, and applying this knowledge to my project has been truly
enlightening. It helped me realize the various ways to incorporate texture, form, and even smell into the environment,
enhancing the overall experience of the space. For my design, I selected “book smell” as the central theme, aiming to
immerse visitors fully and focus on their sense of smell. In line with this concept, I designed a large, round bookshelf
that surrounds the visitors, creating an enveloping and engaging atmosphere.

Honestly, the most challenging aspect of this design was integrating all the elements cohesively. Managing a large space
with different areas and functionalities requires careful planning. I aimed to create a harmonious environment by using
similar forms, elements, and curved furniture designs. Despite this, I found myself struggling with the floor layout,
especially with the carpet tiles. Ensuring the carpet tiles guide the flow of movement effectively was a significant
challenge, as I was unsure if my approach would lead people intuitively through the space.

In terms of adhering to Australian Standards, I have some prior knowledge from my past studies focused on kitchen and
bathroom design. This time, I aimed to make every custom furniture piece inclusive of these standards, ensuring
accessibility for wheelchair users. This involved meticulous attention to detail to ensure that all aspects of the design,
from the height of shelves to the width of pathways, were accessible and user-friendly.
