C) centripetal force D) gravitational force
13. The speed required to put a satellite into its orbit around the earth is called
A) escape speed B) average speed
C) orbital speed D) minimum speed
II. Fill in the blanks by choosing appropriate answer give in the brackets for
ALL the following questions: 5X1=5
(direction, particle, inertia, moment of force, force)
PART B
III. Answer any FIVE of the following questions: 5 X 2 = 10
PART C

30. Derive 𝑇 = 2𝜋√𝑔, using dimensional analysis.
31. Define centripetal acceleration. Write the expression for it and explain the terms.
32. Obtain the expression for magnitude of resultant of two vectors acting at a point.
33. Mention any three advantages of friction.
34. Derive the expression for maximum permissible speed of a vehicle on a curved
road.
35. What are conservative and non – conservatives forces? For which force work done
around the closed path is zero?
36. Write the equations for rotational motion relating angular velocity, angular
acceleration, angular displacement & time taken.
37. State Kepler’s laws of planetary motion.
38. Draw stress – strain curve, indicating yield point and fracture point.
PART D
V. Answer any THREE of the following questions: 3 X 5 = 15
45. The ceiling of long hall is 250 m high. What is the maximum horizontal distance
that a ball thrown with a speed 40 ms-1 can go without hitting the ceiling of the
hall?
46. The driver of a car moving with a speed 72 kmh-1 sees a child standing in the
middle of the road & brings car to rest in 5 s, just in time to save the child. What
is the average acceleration and retarding force on the vehicle? Given mass of the
car is 500 kg and the mass of the driver is 70 kg.
47. A pump on the ground floor of a building can pump up water to fill a tank of
volume 30 m3 in 20 minutes. If the tank is 30 m high above the ground and the
efficiency of the pump is 40%, how much electric power is consumed by the
pump?
48. A car weighs 1800 kg. The distance between its front and back axle is 1.8 m. Its
center of gravity is 1.05 m behind the front axle. Determine the force exerted by
the level ground on each front and each back wheel.
