I. OBJECTIVES
Most Essential Learning Competencies: CS_EN11/12A-EAPP-Ia-c-2
differentiates language used in academic texts from various disciplines.

At the end of the lesson, the learners should be able to;


a. analyze and compare the language features used in academic texts from various
disciplines, enhancing their ability to navigate and understand diverse subject matter.

II. SUBJECT MATTER


Topic : Language Diversity in Academic Texts Across Disciplines
References: Module in ENGLISH FOR ACADEMIC AND PROFESSIONAL PURPOSES and other
electronic sources
Instructional Aids: PowerPoint Presentation, Writing Notebook, Chalkboard

III. PROCEDURE
A. Pre-Developmental Activities (5-10 minutes)
1. Prayer
2. Checking of Attendance
3. Review of the Past Lesson
4. Motivation

 Begin with a brief discussion on what students understand by the term "academic
text" and why they are important.
 Introduce the lesson objective: to explore how language usage varies in academic
texts across different fields of study.

B. Developmental Activities (20-30 minutes)

Display excerpts from academic texts representing various disciplines on the


projector or distribute printed copies.
Ask students to read the excerpts silently and note any language features that
stand out to them.
Guide them to identify differences in vocabulary, sentence structure, tone, and
technical terms used in each excerpt.
C. Post Developmental Activities (10 minutes)
Application

Group Activity: Analyzing Text


 Divide students into small groups and assign each group an academic discipline (e.g.,
science, literature, history, economics).
 Provide each group with an excerpt from an academic text in their assigned discipline.
 Instruct groups to analyze the language features in their excerpt, focusing on:
o Vocabulary specific to the discipline.
o Technical terms and jargon.
o Sentence complexity and structure.
o Tone and formality.

IV. EVALUATION 10 minutes


Have each group present their findings to the class.
Discuss the language features that were unique to each discipline and how they
contribute to effective communication within that field.
V. ASSIGNMENT
 Assign students a task to find and analyze an academic text from a discipline of their
choice.
 Ask them to identify and explain the distinctive language features of that discipline's text.
