Abstract
The Web-Based Online Supermarket Shopping System for Yasin supermarket is an advanced e-
commerce platform designed to streamline the online shopping experience by offering a
comprehensive range of supermarket products through a user-friendly interface. Customers can
effortlessly browse product categories, view detailed descriptions, and manage their shopping
carts. The system supports real-time inventory updates, personalized recommendations, and
order tracking, enhancing both convenience and satisfaction. Administrators benefit from robust
tools for inventory management, order processing, and sales analytics, while the platform's
scalable and secure architecture ensures reliable performance and data protection. This system
transforms traditional supermarket shopping by providing a seamless, accessible, and efficient
online retail experience. Structured Systems Analysis and Design Methodology (SSADM) will
be used to develop the proposed system. In addition, the PHP Hypertext Preprocessor (PHP)
language will be used for the front end of the software while the back end will be designed using
MySQL.

1. Introduction
The system features advanced functionalities designed to enhance the shopping experience, such
as personalized product recommendations based on user preferences, detailed product
descriptions, and seamless shopping cart management. Additionally, the platform supports order
tracking and delivery management, allowing customers to monitor the status of their orders and
receive timely updates.
For administrators, the system offers powerful tools for managing inventory, processing orders,
and analyzing sales data. These features streamline store operations, improve inventory control,
and support data-driven decision-making. The scalable and adaptable nature of the platform
ensures it can grow with increasing product ranges and user traffic, making it a robust solution
for modern retail needs. Overall, the Web-Based Online Supermarket Shopping System
transforms traditional grocery shopping by providing a convenient, secure, and efficient online
retail experience.

The traditional supermarket shopping experience often involves time-consuming tasks such as
navigating crowded aisles, managing long checkout lines, and dealing with limited store hours.
This can be particularly challenging for consumers with busy schedules or those who face
mobility issues. As the demand for convenience and efficiency in shopping grows, there is a
clear need for an alternative that allows customers to shop for groceries and everyday essentials
online. Without a robust digital solution, supermarkets may struggle to meet the evolving
expectations of modern consumers who increasingly prefer the convenience of online shopping.
Moreover, managing inventory and processing orders manually can lead to significant
inefficiencies and errors in traditional retail operations. Inaccurate stock levels, delayed updates
5
on product availability, and cumbersome checkout processes can adversely affect the customer
experience and lead to missed sales opportunities. Supermarkets require a streamlined system
that integrates real-time inventory management, order processing, and secure payment solutions
to enhance operational efficiency and reduce errors.
6
5. Scope of the project
The scope of the Web-Based Online Supermarket Shopping System encompasses the
development of a comprehensive e-commerce platform that facilitates online supermarket
shopping with a focus on user convenience and operational efficiency. It includes features for
browsing a diverse catalog of supermarket products and managing shopping carts. The system
supports real-time inventory management, personalized product recommendations, and order
tracking to enhance the shopping experience. Additionally, it provides administrative tools for
inventory control, order processing, and sales analytics, while ensuring scalability to
accommodate future growth and adaptability to evolving consumer needs. Security measures are
also integrated to protect user data and ensure reliable performance, making the system a robust
solution for modern retail.
6. Methodology
• Interview: we use this technique to get direct information to those who run the traditional
system
• Practical Observation: we observe physically the current existing system done manually to
collect additional information and analyzing their difficulties.
HTML (Hypertext Markup Language) is the most basic building block of the Web. It
defines the meaning and structure of web content. Each page contains a series of
connections to other pages called hyperlinks. Every web page you see on the Internet is
written using one version of HTML code or another.
7
Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) is a simple mechanism for adding styles (e.g., fonts,
colors, and spacing) to Web documents. CSS defines how HTML elements are to be
presented on screen, paper, or in other media. CSS saves a lot of work. It can control the
layout of multiple web pages all at once.
PHP is a server-side scripting language. PHP stands for Hypertext Preprocessor, which
earlier stood for Personal Home Pages. PHP scripts can only be interpreted on a server
that has PHP installed. As mentioned above HTML CSS and PHP are the languages used
in this project. As php is server-side language it requires a server to be interpreted.
Therefore, we will use WAMP server
WAMP SERVER: WampServer refers to a software stack for the Microsoft Windows
operating system, created by Romain Bourdon and consisting of the Apache web server,
MySQL database and PHP programming language. The database language used in our
project, MySQL: MySQL is a relational database management system based on SQL –
Structured Query Language. The most common use for MySQL, however, is for the
purpose of a web database. Standard SQL commands such as ADD, DROP, INSERT and
UPDATE can be used in MYSQL.
Advantages of MySQL:
• High speed, using the SQL queries, the user can quickly and efficiently retrieve a large
amount of records from a database.
• In the SQL standard, it is very easy to manage the database system.
The Web-Based Online Supermarket Shopping System is significant as it transforms the traditional
grocery shopping experience by offering unparalleled convenience and efficiency. By enabling customers
to browse, select, and purchase products, the system eliminates the need for physical store visits and long
checkout lines, accommodating busy lifestyles and enhancing accessibility for all users. It integrates real-
time inventory updates, and personalized recommendations to improve the shopping experience and
operational efficiency. Additionally, the system equips supermarkets with valuable data insights for
optimizing inventory management and targeted marketing, ultimately driving sales growth and customer
8
satisfaction. This digital approach not only meets modern consumer expectations but also positions
supermarkets to thrive in a competitive e-commerce landscape .
