III. TEACHING AND LEARNING PROCEDURE NOTES TO TEACHERS

DAY 1 Teacher will prepare strips of papers.
Give instruction to the students.
1. Short Review
Activity 1: Polygon Hunt
Instruction: Group the class into 3 groups.
- Give each group of students a few slips of paper.
- Ask students to draw one polygon on each card and label it with its name and number of
A. Activating Prior Knowledge
sides.
- Once the polygons are drawn or created, ask students to on a “Polygon Hunt” around the
classroom or school.
- Students should look for real-world examples of the polygons they created, such as tiles,
windows, books or signs.

B. Establishing Lesson 1. Lesson Purpose Used manila paper for students’ report.
Purpose Use the previous activity: Used power point presentation
- In a manila paper, they’re going to draw the polygon and show this in their classmates.
- Teacher will ask, if:
2. what they observed about the presentation of their classmates?
3. Do we have polygon?
4. What do you mean by polygon?

3. Unlocking Content Vocabulary

POLYGON – is a two-dimensional shape formed with more than three straight lines. It is basically
any closed shape which is formed with three or more straight lines. There is no limit in how many
sides will be there in a polygon, it can posses infinite sides, they can have 10 sides or more sides.
CONVEX POLYGON – is a type of polygon where all its interior angles are less than 180 degrees, and
for ant two points inside the polygon. This means that the polygon has no indentations or inward
curves; all its vertices point outward.
CONCAVE POLYGON – is a type of polygon where at least one of its interior angles is greater than
180 degrees, and there is at least one line segment connecting two points inside the polygon that
passes outside the polygon. This means that the polygon has at least one indentation or inward
curve.
REGULAR POLYGON – is two-dimensional figure with equal-length sides and equal-measured
interior angles. A regular polygon can be both convex and concave.

IRREGULAR POLYGON – also known as a non-regular polygon, is form that does not have all of its
sides and angles equal in length.

For Explicitation:
SUB-TOPIC 1: Polygons according to the number of sides. Let the students choose among the figures even though
1. Explicitation they don’t know yet about regular and irregular polygon.
Use learners’ answer in processing the discussion about
- Which of the following figure can be considered as regular polygon? regular polygons.

- Based on the answer of your classmate, how do you understand now a regular polygon?

2. Worked Example For Developing the concept of polygon:

Developing the concept: Ask the learners to read:

C. Developing and Deepening

Understanding Use the definition of regular polygon to process learners’
answers in the previous question. This will help the
learners to understand the definition of a regular
polygon.

Use the discussion found in developing the concept of

- Ask the learner: regular polygon as a guide in processing the learners’

2. How many sides does a decagon has?
3. Does a circle is a polygon? Why?

DAY 2 - 3
SUB-TOPIC 2: Regular and Irregular Polygons
In processing the result of the activity, emphasis must be
1. Explicitation placed on the following:
- What do you know about square? Ask someone to draw it on the board.
- What do you observe with the sides of the square? Are they all equal? - Polygon maybe classified as regular and
- Does square is a regular or irregular polygon? irregular polygon.
- What do you think is special in square that makes it regular polygon?
- Can you differentiate regular polygon from irregular polygon? Use a power point presentation for the discussion.

Then, tell the students that the topic for the day is all about regular and irregular polygons. Post the definition of
regular and irregular polygon from helpful definition. Ask learners to read definitions. For Developing the concept of regular and irregular

Activity 1: Let’s Watch and Learn! 8):
- Let students observe and take down notes about what they’re going to watch.
- Later show to them the figures below.
Post through power point the different figures of
regular and irregular polygons particularly the 5, 6, 8
and 10 sides of polygons.

- Use the video and the figure to process

learners’ answers in the previous question (Can
you differentiate regular polygon from
