My Monthly Budget WORKSHEET
1. Reproduce the spreadsheet below exactly. Use default settings unless otherwise
specified. Note the cell location, cell alignment, bolding, italics, underlining, the case of
the text, etc. Match all formatting that is shown in the sample in your own work; even if it
is not specifically mentioned in the instructions below.
Formulas:
1. Any cells highlighted in grey with “FORMULA” written in it requires you to use the
appropriate formula to calculate the given line item.
2. Any cells highlighted in grey with “R” written in it requires you to do research on the
amount for the given line item.
3. For your Gross Monthly Income, divide your Gross Salary by 12.
4. Use https://ca.talent.com/tax-calculator to research your deduction amounts. (Federal,
and provincial tax, CPP, and EI).
5. Add up all your deductions to calculate your Total Deductions.
6. Divide your Total Deductions by 12 to get your Total Monthly Deductions.
7. Subtract your total monthly deductions from your gross monthly income to calculate your
Net Monthly Income.
8. Multiply your net monthly income by a percentage of your choice (ex. 10%) to calculate
your Savings.
9. We will come up with “OTHER EXPENSE” as a class.
10. Add up your fixed expenses to calculate your Total Necessities.
11. Subtract your Total Necessities from your Net Monthly Income to calculate your
Discretionary Income.
12. Create your own list of Variable Expenses.
13. Add up your variable expenses to calculate your Total Variable Expenses.
14. Subtract your total variable expenses from your discretionary income to calculate your
Leftover Income.
Formatting:
1. Bold MONTHLY BUDGET and change the font size to 14. Highlight A1:D1, merge the
cells and centre the title, and use a fill colour for the cell.
2. Highlight B2:D2, bold and centre the headings.
3. Select all ‘income’ and ‘total’ line items, bold and italicise them.
4. Select ‘Fixed Expenses’ and ‘Variable Expenses”. Bold the titles and change the font
size to 12, merge and centre the title across columns A-D.
5. Add a bottom border to the end of each list of amounts for your fixed and variable
expenses.
6. Add a thick border around the title ‘Monthly Budget’ and around the entire budget sheet.
7. Format all your numbers as a currency.
