Detailed Lesson Plan in Science

I. Objectives
● Identify objects attracted by magnets;
● Describe the force exerted by magnets
II. Subject Matter
● Topic: Force Exerted by Magnets
● Reference: K-12 Curriculum Guide pp. 55, S4FE-III d-e-3
● Materials: Powerpoint Presentation, Magnets, Battery, Thumbtacks,
Keys, Plastic spoon, pencil, rubber band, and Flashcards
● Value Integration: Cooperation, Observation, Brainstorming
III. Procedure
Preliminary Activities
Teacher’s Activities Students Activities
A. Preparation

● Prayer

- Please stand up and let us pray.

- Cherry, please lead the prayer. (Cherry Stands and leads the prayer)
● Greetings
- Good morning class! - Good morning Ma’am!
● Checking of Attendance
- Is anyone absent from the class? - No ma’am.
- Very good everyone!
● Review
- Now before we start our next lesson, - ( Elvie raises her hand )
can anyone recall our previous
lesson?
- Yes Elvie? - (Elvie gave the correct answer )
- Very Good Elvie! Let us give Elvie
an Amazing Clap!
- (Clap, Clap, Clap, Stomp, Stomp, - (Clap, Clap, Clap, Stomp, Stomp,
Stomp) A- A- Amazing! Stomp) A- A- Amazing!
● Motivation
- Now, let us have a short activity.
I will be grouping the class into 2
groups. At the right side is the group
1, and at the left side is group 2.
- As a group, use the given materials
to determine whether the objects are
attracted or not attracted to the
magnet.
Direction: Place the magnet near each object
and check if it is attracted or not attracted to
the magnet.

Material Attracted Not

- Okay class! Very Good! All of your
answers are correct!
B. Discussion

- So class, what is Magnetism? Or

what comes into your mind when
you hear the word Magnetism?
- Yes Mawi?
- Very good! - About Magnets ma’am.
- Randy, what comes into your mind
when you hear the word magnetism?
- Very good Randy and Mawi! - About how magnets work ma’am.
- Let’s give them a round of applause

- So what is Magnetism? Let us read.

Magnetism
Magnetism
Magnetism is a physical phenomenon
produced by the motion of electric charge, Magnetism is a physical phenomenon
resulting in attractive and repulsive forces produced by the motion of electric charge,
between objects. resulting in attractive and repulsive forces
between objects.

- How can we determine whether

magnetism is happening or not?
- Lovelene
- By using a compass ma’am!
- Very good Lovelene! If the object is
magnetic the compass needle will
move and point toward the object, if
the object is non-magnetic the
compass needle will not move.
- Let us give Lovelene an Aling
Dionesia Clap!
- (Clap, Clap, Clap, Stomp, Stomp,
Stomp) Very good, Very good, Very - (Clap, Clap, Clap, Stomp, Stomp,
good! Stomp) Very good, Very good, Very
good!
Magnets
Magnets
Magnets exert force that attracts
objects. This force that is exerted by Magnets exert force that attracts
the magnet is called Magnetic Force. objects. This force that is exerted by
the magnet is called Magnetic Force.

Magnets can attract objects but not

all objects can be attracted. Magnets Magnets can attract objects but not
attract metals mainly, iron, nickel, all objects can be attracted. Magnets
and cobalt. attract metals mainly, iron, nickel,
and cobalt.

- Now can you give me examples of

- - Cans
objects that are attracted to magnets?
- Nails
- Paper Clips
- Keys
- Coins
- Very good everyone! All of your
answers are correct!
- What about the objects that are not
attracted to magnets? - Pencils
- Plastic spoon
- Glass
- Paper
- Rubber Band
- Wow! Very good everyone! Give
yourselves a round of applause! - (Students are Clapping)
- So much for that, let us proceed.
Please read Merrian.
- Magnets have invisible magnetic
field which attracts objects made of
iron, nickel, and cobalt. It exerts a
non-contact force that acts at a
distance even without physically
touching the object.
- Thank you Merrian. So magnets
have invisible magnetic fields. That
explains why magnets can pull
metals.
- Now there are several types of
magnets and magnets polarity.
Magnets can be: Ring magnets,
Rectangular magnets, horseshoe
magnets, and bar magnets.

-
Now
this
is an

example of a bar magnet. On end of

a bar magnet is called the north pole,
and the opposite end is called south
pole.

- This is the reason why magnets are

called dipoles meaning they have
two opposite ends or poles.
- When two magnets of the same
poles are placed close to each other
they repel or push each other.

- When two magnets of opposite poles

are placed close to each other they
attract or pull each other.

- Please read the next paragraph

Apple.

- Magnetic field is the area around a - Magnetic field is the area around a
magnet where the magnetic force magnet where the magnetic force
creates a magnetic effect. It is creates a magnetic effect. It is
stronger at the poles of the magnet. stronger at the poles of the magnet.

- Thank you Apple

- Okay class, let us have an activity.

C. Application

Direction: Write C if the statement is correct

and I if the statement is incorrect.

1. Silver and gold rings get attracted to

magnets.
2. Iron, cobalt, and nickel are materials
attracted to magnets.
3. All objects that are made up of iron
are attracted to magnets.
4. When two opposite poles are faced
with each other, they repel each
other.
5. When two similar poles are faced
with each other, they attract or pull
each other.

D. Evaluation

I. Direction: put a √ if the objects are

attracted by magnets and x if the objects are
not attracted by magnets.

1. Pencil
2. Cup
3. Plastic Bottle
4. Nails
5. Metal Fork

II. Give the correct answer

What is the force exerted by magnets

called? How does it work? Explain.

E. Generalization

- Okay class, what are the two poles

on a magnet? - North Pole and South Pole
- What is the force exerted by magnets
called? - Magnetic Force
- What happens when two different
poles meet? - They attract each other
- What happens when two similar
poles meet? - They repel each other
- Very good class! Looks like
everyone paid attention to the lesson.
Now before we end our class I will
be giving you your assignment.

F. Assignment

Direction: Use a magnet to see if the objects

inside the box are attracted or not attracted
to the magnet. Record your observations
and answer the guide questions after the
activity.
Guide Questions:

1. Which objects were attracted to magnet?

2. What are they made of?
3. Which objects were not attracted to the
magnet?
4. What are they made of?
