Yolanda Socks

Yolanda Socks are knitted cuff down on a long circular needle. The stitch pattern is easy
to memorize, so this makes a perfect knitting project to work on while listening to your
favorite podcast or watching a TV-show. This sock design is the result of a collaboration
between laurelknits and Wollplatz.de. With lost yarn shipments, planning and shifting
the deadlines yet again, Yolanda Sock design was finally finished and published just in
time for Christmas 2021.

We hope you enjoy knitting Yolanda Socks and share your beautiful creations with us
over on Instagram, using the hashtag #yolandasocks.
Happy Holidays!

INSTRUCTIONS

Cast on 70 sts with your preferred cast on method. Place BORm and join to work in the
round, being careful not to twist the sts. Begin working the cuff.

Cuff
Rnd 1: *p1, k3, p1; rep from * 6 times more; place mA; *p1, k3, p1*; rep from * 6 times
more.
Rnds 2–8: *p1, k3, p1; rep from * to end.

Leg
Start working the stitch pattern following Chart A (repeating Leg Repeat only) or written
instructions for leg on page 3. Work Leg Repeat (a 10-stitch pattern) 7 times per round.
Repeat Rnds 1–14 a total of 5 times or to desired length, ending with Rnd 14. Turn work
so that WS is facing you. Proceed to heel flap.

Written Instructions for Chart A (Leg):
Rnd 1: *p1, k3, p2, yo, s2kpo, yo, p1; rep from * to end.
Rnd 2: *p1, k3, p2, k3, p1; rep from * to end.
Rnd 3: as Rnd 1.
Rnds 4 - 8: as Rnd 2.
Rnd 9: *p1, yo, s2kpo, yo, p2, k3, p1; rep from * to end.
Rnds 10 - 14: as Rnd 2.

Heel flap
Heel flap is worked flat over the sts between the BORm and mA.

Set-Up Row (WS): sl1 wyif, p16, p2tog, p16. Turn work. (34 sts left).
Row 1 (RS): *sl1 wyib, k1; rep from * to end.

Row 2 (WS): sl1 wyif, p 33.

Repeat Rows 1 and 2, 16 times more, ending with a WS row. Turn work so that RS is
facing you. Proceed to heel turn.

Heel turn

Row 1 (RS): sl1 wyib, k18, ssk, k1, turn work.

Row 2 (WS): sl1 wyif, p5, p2tog, p1, turn work.
Row 3: sl1 wyib, k to 1 st before the gap, ssk, k1, turn work.
Row 4: sl1 wyif, p to 1 st before the gap, p2tog, p1, turn work.

Work Rows 3 and 4 back and forth until all side stitches have been worked. You should
end up with 20 sts.

Next row (RS): Knit across all heel sts. Place BORm.

Gusset

Set-Up Rnd: Resume working in the round. Pick up and knit 17 sts along the left side of
the heel flap. Place mA. Work 35 instep sts following Chart A (after working Leg Repeat
for 3 times, work last 5 sts of chart) or written instructions for instep below. Place mB,
pick up and knit 17 sts along the other side of the heel flap. Knit to BORm. You now
have a total of 89 sts on the needle, 54 sts between mB and mA.

The gusset decreases are worked on sts just before mA and right after mB every other
round as follows:
Rnd 1 (decrease rnd): k to 2 sts before mA, k2tog, smA, work instep sts according to
Chart A or written instructions, smB, ssk, k to BORm.
Rnd 2: k to mA, smA, work instep sts according to Chart A or written instructions, smB,
k to BORm.

Repeat Rnds 1 and 2 until there are 36 sts left between mB and mA. On next decrease
rnd, work a decrease only before mA. You now have 35 sts between mB and mA and a
total of 70 sts on the needle. Remove BORm as from now on, mA will be the new BORm.

Written instructions for Chart A (Instep):

Rnd 1: *p1, k3, p2, yo, s2kpo, yo, p1; rep from * 2 more times; p1, k3, p1.
Rnd 2: *p1, k3, p2, k3, p1; rep from * 2 more times; p1, k3, p1.
Rnd 3: as Rnd 1.
Rnds 4 - 8: as Rnd 2.
Rnd 9: *p1, yo, s2kpo, yo, p2, k3, p1; rep from * 2 more times; p1, yo, s2kpo, yo, p1.
Rnds 10 - 14: as Rnd 2.

Foot
After the gusset decreases, continue following the stitch pattern shown in Chart A or
written instructions on page 3 on the instep sts and working in stockinette st (plain
knitting) on the sole sts.

Work this way until the foot measures approx. 4 cm/1.5 inches less than your desired
sock length, ending with any round (however, ending with either Rnd 3 or Rnd 9 of Chart
A will give you a more finished pattern look). Proceed to toe shaping.

Toe shaping
Rnd 1 (decrease rnd): k1, ssk, k to 3 sts before mB, k2tog, k1, smB, k1, ssk, k to 3 sts
before BORm, k2tog, k1.

Rnd 2: k all sts.

Repeat Rnds 1 and 2 until 30 sts remain. Remove markers.

Finishing

Cut yarn, leaving a tail of approximately 25 cm (10 inch) for grafting the stitches
together. Make sure there are 15 sts on each needle. Holding the two needles parallel to
each other and using Kitchener stitch, graft the remaining sts together with a tapestry
needle. Weave in all ends. Soak and block socks.
