1. How do you print the IMCS data for making report? (3)

Candidate's Answer
To print the IMCS data to making report from the engineering workstation (EWS) which supplied to the printer with A3 and A4
paper.

Correct Answer

From EWS which is supplied with Laser colour Printer (suitable for A3 and A4 paper size prints) to print the report for analysis
purpose.

A separate dedicated event recorder shall also be provided and programmed such that, all events are printed on real time
basis.
The following type of reports shall be generated from the system and shall be possible to print these reports:
- Alarm reports;
- Status reports;
- Accounting reports;
- Daily logs (i.e. event and operator actions; continuously);
- Periodic reports (e.g. daily, weekly, monthly and at operator’s request);
- Single line diagrams;
- Trend information;
- Measurements

2. What action would you take if noticed that there an alarm display in the IMCS particularly on one starter unit? (3)

Candidate's Answer
1.Inform CCR panel man to acknowledge the alarm.
2.Check the status of starter unit.
3.Record the alarm.
4.Physical check and verify for abnormal condition.

Correct Answer

- Acknowledge the alarm

- Click even button to check on indication status starter unit, data menu, trend analysis and alarm set point.
- Record events unit, note on line information, including voltage, current power frequency etc
- Check sequential analysis of accidents at MCU starter unit physically abnormal condition
- Verify and function test

3. List down the precautions required for this task (1,2)

Candidate's Answer

1.Electrostatic.
2.Dust.
3.Wrong wiring connection.
4.Proper isolation.
5.Equipment shut down.

Correct Answer
1. Electrostatic
2. Dust
3. Wrong wiring connection
4. Security level
5. Correct address
6. Proper isolation
7. Unintentional shutdown the equipment

4. Can a motor be started from CCR (Process Control Room) if you fail to start it from Engineering Work Station? (3,5,6)

Candidate's Answer

Yes, if fail to start the motor from EWS, the motor can start from CCR.
All the control command from plant DCS to the motor and the signal transfer to DCS from the IMCS serial communication as
below
1-Motor /Feeder current
2-Active power.
3-Power factor.

Correct Answer
Yes, at CCR the plant DCS efficiently exercises controls as remote,
All control commands from DCS to the Motors / process heaters / MOVs / electrical equipment etc. shall be hardwired through
an IRP and after the execution of the
command, updated status shall be communicated to DCS.
Monitoring, Protection, Control, ESD requirements
Motor and other process feeders at various process plants will be controlled from the plant DCS, Unit Control Panels for
packages and Local Control Stations. Control and protection modules located in each cubicle of MCC/Switchgear shall be
connected in a network within the substation to monitor and set data such as:

The signals to be transferred to DCS from IMCS by serial communications shall be as

- Motor/feeder current;
- Motor startup time;
- Consumed active power and power factor;
- Power usage (kWh) for any electrical load fed from switchgear. This feature shall
- also enable all the loads associated with each process unit to be combined to
- provide a total process unit power usage;
- Motor reacceleration and sequential restart settings;
- Thermal status of motor including restart inhibit time;
- Overload alarm/protection, including incorporation of Te settings for Ex'e' motors;
- Load unbalance alarm/protection settings;
- Earth fault alarm/protection;
- Stall protection;
- Under voltage alarm/protection;
- Undercurrent alarm/protection for motors; Manual reset of alarms/trips via password or key for locked rotor and faults
- (including earth faults);
- Manual reset of all other alarms/trips;
- Motor operating time (operating hours);
- Maintenance time interval data for motors;
- Thermistor or Pt100/RTD element for over temperature protection

5. What operation parameters are displayed or accessible on the integrated motor control monitor? (3,4)

Candidate's Answer
1.Voltage.
2.Current.
3.Frequncy.
4.Equipment status.
5.Circuit breaker status.
6.Monitor and control.
7.See the list of alarm.
8.See the list of equipment tripping.

Correct Answer

There are 2 operations on IMCS, which are: -

a) With Data Key

i) Operator key
1) Start Motor
2) Stop Motor
3) Reset alarm

ii) Admin key

1) Change/Input settings of MCU/device
2) Install MCU address

b) Without Data Key

i) View settings
ii) Read current/voltage reading
iii) See status of equipment/MCU
iv) See list of equipment trips
v) See list of alarms
