His mother was already preparing supper. The beans were ready but she had
not put in salt. The water was put to boil but the maize flour had not been
bought. So Katibu was given some money to go and buy the missing items for
supper. He put the money on the table. He put his school bag on top of the
table. When he put on his daily clothes, he dashed to the shop.
The shopkeeper gave him what he asked for. When Katibu put his hand in the
pocket, it was empty. There was no money. He did not know what had
happened. Then he told the shopkeeper that his mother had promised to pay
the money the next day. The shopkeeper, knowing Katibu’s mother very well,
accepted what Katibu said. As soon as Katibu reached home, he started crying.
He told his mother that some bad boys had beaten him and stolen the money.
His mother was very sorry for him. She was very happy that the shopkeeper had
accepted to give the items without paying,
The following day, Katibu’s mother woke up very early to prepare breakfast.
Then she wanted to check if Katibu’s bag had all the school requirements.
