19. The table below show the income tax rates for a certain year.

During the year, Ken’s monthly income was as follows: Basic Salary Ksh. 12,500, Commuter
allowance Ksh.2,620, House allowance Ksh. 1,500, Hardship allowance 30% of the basic salary.
Ken is entitled to a tax relief of Ksh 1,460 per month. He pays a taxable housing levy which is
1.5% of his basic salary. He also contributes Ksh. 800 monthly towards his pension scheme. This
contribution is exempted from taxation. Calculate:
(a) Ken’s annual taxable income in K£. (2 marks)

(b) The monthly tax payable by Ken in Ksh. (6 marks)

(c) From his salary, the following deductions were also made every month;
NHIF Ksh 500, NSSF Ksh 720, SACCO shares Ksh 1,500. Calculate Ken’s net salary per
month in Ksh. (2 marks)

20. A team of 3 form four students are chosen from a group of 12, to represent the school in a
math contest. The students comprise of five girls and seven boys.
(a) Draw a probability tree diagram to represent the possible outcome. (2 marks)

(b) Use the tree diagram above to calculate the:


(i) Probability that all the three students are of the same gender. (2 marks)

(ii) Probability that there is at most two girls. (2 marks)

(iii) Probability that there are more boys than girls. (2 marks)

(iv) Probability that two boys are chosen first before a girl or two girls first before
a boy. (2 marks)

21. An institution intended to buy a certain number of chairs for Ksh 16200.The supplier
agreed to offer a discount of Ksh 60 per chair which enabled the institution to get 3 more
chairs. Taking x as the originally intended number of chairs,
(a) Write an expression in terms of x for:
i. Original price per chair; (1mark).

ii. Price per chair after discount. (1mark).

(b) Determine:
i. The price of chairs the institution originally intended to buy; (4marks).

ii. Price per chair after discount; (2marks).

iii. The amount of money the institution would have saved per chair if it bought the intended
number of chairs at a discount of 15%. (2marks).

22. A right angle triangle ABC is such that angle ABC is 900. The coordinates of points B and C
are B(7 , 1) and C (6 ,−2).
a. Find the equation of
i. line BC in the form y=mx+c (3marks)

ii. line AB in the form ax +by =c (3marks)

b. If the equation of line AC is 2 x+ y−10=0 , determine:


i. The x-intercept of AC (1mark)

ii. The coordinates of point A (3marks)

23. In the figure below, O1 and O2 are the centres of the smaller circle and bigger circle
respectively. Line AC=BC . XAB is a straight line and RBT is a tangent to the bigger circle at
point B. AD is a diameter of the smaller circle. Angle ADC=110 0 and Angle BCD=800.

Find the values of the following angles, stating reasons in each case:
(a) Angle AXD (2 marks)

(b) Angle ABC (2 marks)

(c) Angle ABR (2 marks)
