Import new ENC and Update database

Procedure

The mariner should provide the “USERPERMIT” to the data server firstly, and the
data server will issue the “Permit.txt” to the mariner. The “Permit.txt” file is the cell
key to decrypt the S-63 ENC.

The operation is divided as the below steps:


① Find the “HW_ID”&“USERPERMIT”, and contact the data server to apply for the
“Permit.txt” with the “USERPERMIT”;
② Install the “Permit.txt” file;
③ Import the ENC from the CD/DVD

4.2.2 How to find the “HW_ID”&“USERPERMIT”

Please click the “Tool - Parameter”

The below dialogue appears. Please select the “User” and click “OK” to log on.
Please record the “USERPERMIT” and “HW_ID”. Please send the “USERPERMIT” to
the data server to apply for the “Permit.txt”file.

NOTE: The “USERPERMIT” is unique for every ECDIS.

4.2.3 Install “Permit.txt”

The data server will send the “Permit.txt” file the mariner. Please copy it into the
removable disk. There is standard usb interface on the Main Cabinet Unit. Please
connect the removable disk to the Main Cabinet Unit.
Click the “Map-Chart Manager” on the toolbar to open the dialogue “Headway
ECDIS – Chart Manager”. The mariner could click the icon “ ” to open it too.

Please click “Import ENC” and the below dialogue“HEcdis_ImportENC” appears


Please click “Store HW_ID” and input the “HW_ID”.Then please click the “Store”
button to close the dialogue “Store HW ID”. The default value is “12345”, which
should be replaced by the real one.

NOTE: It is never expires after the first stored HW_ID. The stored HW_ID operation could be
omitted on the next ENC import.

Please click “Store” to close “Store HW ID” and the below


dialogue“HEcdis_ImportENC” appears
Please click “Permits” to open the below dialogue “Installed permits”

Please click “Install permits” to open the below dialogue “Open”:


If the validity is less than 30 days, the ECDIS will pop up the below dialogue, Please
click “Yes” to ignore it. The SSE 15 is only the prompt. Please don’t worry about it.

Please click “Open” and the below dialogue “Import S57” appears whenthe
installation is successful.

Please click “OK” to return the dialogue “Installed permits”. The permit information
will appear on the dialogue. Please click “Close” to return “HEcdis_ImportENC”.
The mariner could delete the expired permit too. Please select the expired cell and
click “Delete permit”. The mariner could select the several cells by pressing “Ctrl” or
“Shift” key.

The below dialogue appears. Please click “OK” to confirm it.


4.2.4 Import the ENC from the CD/DVD

Please confirm the dialogue function according to the below instruction

Execute:
Please click the “Execute” to import the ENC when all the path and names are set.

Turn Off popup msg:


The mariner could set whether the error report is shown

Overwrite the same cell:


When it is selected, the existing ENC will be overwrite by the current CD/DVD.

Path to ENC:
Select the desired database from the DVD. Select the ENC_ROOT on DVD, There are 9
folders (B1-B9) on ENC DVD. There is a ENC_ROOT folder under every folder (B1-B9).
Please select the “ENC_ROOT” folder under the “B1-B9” folder. Click the “OK”. The
ENC is divided as nine sea areas. And it is named from B1 to B9. The mariner should
import ENC according to the sea area one by one. For example, if the desired ENC
belongs to two areas, the mariner should import from the first sea area, and
continue to import it from the second sea area.
Now the “ENC Path” set is completed, please click the “Execute” to start the import

The import will take some time. The spent time is appeared on the “Execute” key.
When the below dialogue appears, please click “OK” to complete the import.

Please click the “Close” to close the “HEcdis_ImportENC” and return to chart
manager. Click the “Refresh” the database “ENC” is appeared on the list

Please select the “ENC” and click “Add To View”. And the mariner could call the ENC
to use on the “Map - Catalogue”.
4.3 How to update database

4.3.1 Scope

Sometimes the mariner should update the ENC. The ENC is sent to vessel as CD/DVD
or other storage medium. The mariner could use the “Update database” function to
import these data.

4.3.2 Install “Permit.txt”

If the permit is still valid, the mariner could start the operation from 4.2.3 directly. If
the permit is invalid, the mariner should apply and install the permit firstly.

4.3.3 Update database

Please click “Map-Chart Manager” or click the button “ ”on the toolbar to active
the dialogue.
The mariners only set the “Path to ENC”, and the configuration is the same as 4.2.4.

Please click the “Execute” to start the import. The import will take some time. The
spent time is appeared on the “Execute” button. When the below dialogue appears,
please click “OK” to complete the update.
