1. Below is an example of a 3 × 3 KenKen puzzle and its major elements.

To complete the KenKen puzzle, here are the rules:


Fill in the grids with natural numbers 1 to 3 such that
 each number appears only once in each row and in each column, but it may repeat in a cage;
 the target number in a cage can be obtained by applying the specified operation to the
numbers filled in the cage.
Complete the following two 3 × 3 KenKen puzzles accordingly.
(a)

Two numbers 1 and 2 are filled in a cage as an example. The target number 1 in the cage is
obtained by subtracting 1 from 2.

(b)

2. Find the sum of all odd numbers in the following ranges.


(a) 0 to 10
(b) 0 to 50

3. Write down an expression by connecting the four numbers 1, 5, 5 and 5 with +, −, ×, ÷ and
brackets such that the result is 24.

3. Without using a calculator, determine whether the product 1× 2 × 3 × 4 × 5 × 6 × 7 × 8 × 9 is divisible


by the following numbers.
(a) 10
(b) 96
(c) 196

4. Form each of the following numbers using 0, 1, 4, 5 and 9 without repetition.


(a) The largest 3-digit odd number.
(b) The smallest 3-digit prime number.
(c) The largest 4-digit odd number which is divisible by 3.
(d) The smallest 4-digit number which is a multiple of 4.
[Hint: All multiples of 4 are even numbers.]

1. Three wooden boards of length 63 cm, 84 cm and 147 cm are cut into smaller pieces of the same
length. Find the maximum length of each smaller piece of wooden board.

2. A bus of routes A, B and C leaves a bus stop every 8 minutes, 12 minutes and 16 minutes
respectively. Suppose buses of these 3 routes just leave the bus stop together. Stephen claims that
they will leave the bus stop together again within 50 minutes. Do your agree? Explain your
answer.

3. If 50 oranges are divided evenly among a group of people, 2 oranges are left. If 83 oranges are
divided evenly among these people, 3 oranges are left. Find the maximum number of people in the
group.
