Q. 1. (a) Read the passage given below and answer the questions that follow.

Glaciers are melting, sea levels are rising, cloud forests are dying, and wildlife is scrambling

to keep pace. It has become clear that humans have caused most of the past century's

warming by releasing heat-trapping gases as we power our modern lives. Called

greenhouse gases, their levels are higher now than at any time in the last 800,000 years.

While many people think of global warming and climate change as synonyms, scientists

use "climate change" when describing the complex shifts now affecting our planet's

weather and climate systems.

Climate change encompasses not only rising average temperatures but also extreme
weather events, shifting wildlife populations and habitats, rising seas, and a range of other

impacts including changing the rhythms of climate that all living things have come to rely

on.

The "greenhouse effect" is the warming that happens when certain gases in Earth's

atmosphere trap heat. These gases let in light but keep heat from escaping, like the glass

walls of a greenhouse, hence the name. Sunlight shines onto the Earth's surface, where
the energy is absorbed and then radiate back into the atmosphere as heat. In the

atmosphere, greenhouse gas molecules trap some of the heat, and the rest escapes into

space.

In 1895, the Swedish chemist Svante Arrhenius discovered that humans could enhance

the greenhouse effect by making carbon dioxide, a greenhouse gas. He kicked off 100
years of climate research that has given us a sophisticated understanding of global

warming. Levels of greenhouse gases have gone up and down over the Earth's history,

but they had been fairly constant for the past few thousand years. Global average

temperatures had also stayed fairly constant over that time- until the past 150 years.

Through the burning of fossil fuels and other activities that have emitted large amounts

of greenhouse gases, particularly over the past few decades, humans are now increasing

the greenhouse effect and warming Earth significantly, and in ways that promise many
effects, scientists warn.

(i) What do scientists mean by climate change?

(ii) What is the impact of climate change?

(iii) What is the greenhouse effect?

(iv) What has increased the greenhouse gases over the last 150 years?

(v) Find words from the passage that are the opposite in meaning to the following:

Q. 2. (a) You read an inspirational book that affected you a lot. Write a blog about

the impact of the book upon your life and personality.

Ans. Students must not get disheartened if they fail or are unable to qualify in any

competitive exam. In such hard times, all they need is a pat at their back, and someone
who can motivate them and hence uplift their confidence. Positive words of advice and

encouragement have the power to push students towards the right direction. In such a

situation where students start feeling the exam pressure or get surrounded by stress and

dejections, they need to stay focused and find some source of motivation.

'Ignited Minds' is my first read by him and I am so glad to have read it. His profound
wisdom reflects as we traverse through the pages and find it inspiring, motivating,

uplifting - all at the same time. The book has been divided into chapters which are neat

and comprehensible. These chapters contain the amazing experiences of Kalam Ji as he

recounts his days from the past. Through his experiences and observations, he goes on
to explain the importance of participation of youth in building the nation.

'Ignited Minds' is a beautiful book authored by the former President of India, late Shri A.
P. J. Abdul Kalam. The book presents a vision plan to take the nation forward, toward a

glorious future. It inspires the readers, particularly the young ones and ignites their minds

to strive for a new and better India.

Dream, dream, dream... Dreams transform into thoughts and thoughts result in action. It

begins with the inspiring dialog between five great personalities of the world, namely
Mahatma Gandhi, Albert Einstein, Emperor Asoka, Abraham Lincoln, and Caliph Omar. The

discussion takes place in Kalam's dream. It instantly taps into one's consciousness and

reinforces the importance of self-realization. Dr. Kalam explains how we should let our

inner energy guide us through difficult situations in life.

I find self-help and inspirational books magical for my daily life and there is no better

option to me to start every morning with the valuable messages of inspirational books

than anything else. So, the book's genre has attracted me.

We witness the inspiring and uplifting attitude of Kalam for those people who want to live
their lives within a limitation and lack the tendency to accept challenge in life when we

traverse through the pages of the book. Here, Dr. Kalam shares some of his valuable

experiences of life and interactions with people from different spheres; including school

and college students, eminent scientists, visionaries, sages and industrialists.

In short and to conclude, the book 'Ignited Minds' by APJ Abdul Kalam, our always
beloved former president, gives us the message of motivation and moving ahead. It does

not tell us to stop and wait for the opportunity; it propels us to grab the opportunity or

to create the opportunity. We are a nation of billion dreams but we must have some

common national goals that we must aspire for achieving. We are by the nation and so,
we must do something good for the nation which has given us and our ancestors the

shelter and a name - Indians! I loved this book and there is nothing which holds it back!

A must read for the Indians and especially the young Indians.

(b) You had been quarantined during the lockdown. Write a Facebook post thanking

your friends who have helped you during social distancing.

Ans. The covid-19 pandemic has brought out the best in many people-people who have

shown compassion and empathy and offered a helping hand to others during this
extraordinary time.

Although I was very anxious, stressed, exhausted and scared I knew I was home. A pure
sense of relief.

Here is what I did not expect. While on the plane, and the moment we landed, we were

cared for by many, many amazing people. Walking into the airplane hangar took my

breath away and I had to hold back the tears. The welcome home signs, the smiles that
were on everyone's face, so happy to see us and to help us. I felt like I had walked into a

huge family reunion.

The current circumstances we live in are unknown to us all and they bring a lot of

uncertainties and new challenges with them. For this reason, we would like to express our

gratitude to all my friends for all that you and your team have done so far for all students
on and off-campus as well as for the kind and supportive messages you have sent to us

all.

I want to say thank you from the bottom of my heart for all of the services and wonderful

care that you all provided. I am so grateful to have been at home and am so grateful to

have been surrounded by such caring and dedicated people. Finally, we hope that this
crisis will be somehow resolved in the near future and that those who have returned home

will be able to return soon to finish the year all together. And that if anything, we will all

be able to learn something from this crisis.

Q. 3. (a) Write a dialogue between two mothers who are discussing the habits of

their teenage children.

Ans. (a)

Ritu : Hi Jyoti, why you are looking worried?

Jyoti : Hello dear, nothing my daughter, I am concerned about Pari.

Ritu : Oh! What happened to her? Is she fine?

Jyoti : That way everything is fine. But now she is grownup. She should take some

responsibilities of her work.

Ritu : Same here, whenever I say my son to not to eat junk food and switch to healthy

food. But who listens!

Jyoti : But some teens are impressively independent.

Ritu : Ya, but my son is totally dependent on me.

Jyoti : But sometimes I feel that our constant nagging also troubles them.

Ritu : Many times, I made a chore chart and homework charge but he doesn't follow it

at all.

Jyoti : My daughter wants to sleep late always. It is always a painful experience to make

her sleep.

Ritu : Yes, for that I have kept a strict sleep schedule by gradually turning off his electronic

devices as that can tempt your child and delay bedtime.

Jyoti : For healthy eating I have replaced all junk food in my house with healthy and
traditional food. How she is coming in the habit of eating healthy.

Ritu : They should take their parents for granted rather they should acknowledge us.

Jyoti : Yes, I agree with you. Now they are growing up and they should understand their
responsibility.

Ritu : As a parent of a teen, it is our responsibility also to review how our child treats

other children and behave properly.

Jyoti : Definitely, being a parent of teenager is a bigger responsibility. Because their

behaviour now will pave the way for how he or she will behave in the teenage years and

beyond.

(b) Write a tweet sharing your study plan for the exam.

Ans. Sticking to a study schedule is as important as creating it. No one makes a time table

intending to ignore it.

But sometimes, such situations might happen when we have to give up our studies for a

day or for a few hours just because of some urgent work.

For this reason, it's crucial to ensure that there should be enough time for some social

and physical activities in addition to studies. This extra time must be included in daily
study timetable for students.

A plan not only brings discipline in life, it makes every task at hand easy and efficient. You

also tend to procrastinate less when you have a plan to complete it on time.

5:00 AM : Try to make a good habit of waking up early in the morning.

5:00 AM-5: 20 AM : Finish up all utilities of freshening up yourself.

5:20 AM-5:40 AM : Go to the terrace and take long breaths as fresh oxygen

rejuvenated our mind. In the meantime, you can also do some kind of exercises, yoga and

meditation to keep yourself fresh and active the whole day long.

5:40 AM-6:00 AM : Revise everything that you have studied the last night before.

6:00 AM-6:15 AM : Take a shower in cold water as it helps you keep fresh and

active throughout the day. You'll not feel sleepy if you take a bath every day before getting

on to your studies.

6:30 AM-7:00 AM : Have a healthy breakfast and get ready for the school. Till
2:30 PM or 3:00 PM We hope that you all may return home back.

3:00 PM-3:30 PM : Eat lunch.

3:30 PM-4:30 PM : Go for a short nap.

6:00 PM-7:00 PM : Go to play outside or do some physical activity.

7:15 PM-9:00 PM : Study Maths.

9:00 PM-9:30 PM : Get a light dinner.

9:30 PM-10:30 PM : Revise or learn what you got as HW from the school.

10:30 PM-11:00 PM : Revise all the topics of the day at a glance.

11:00 PM : Go to sleep.

Q. 4. (a) Write an interview between a reporter and a budding film star.

Ans. (a) Over the years, Alia Bhatt has seen a lot of success, but one thing has remained
the same- her energy and positive vibe. Today, she has clearly claimed the top spot among

all actresses and has also given a lot of male stars a run for their money.

Q: Did you enjoy doing this kind of street-smart character?

A: I did! I had a lot of fun because there is a tapori side to me. Like I said, I can feel like

my character did, even though I am a Juhu girl who is supposed to be dainty and quite

hoity- toity. There is this hardcore Mumbaiker within my heart, my DNA. And it's fun to

be incorrect. Being right and good every time can be very irritating.

Q: The big one-how was Ranveer Singh?

A: Oh, he just takes over, he comes down on you! I just enjoy his energy! And he is lovely

as a performer - he has blown my mind, and I keep thinking, "Wow! He's amazing!
Fantastic!" As a human being, he is actually a simple, sensitive person at heart. He shows

that energy only so that people around him have a good time. He is so positive, and I am

sure he must not be feeling all that good all the time. But it is an art to be like him.

Q: As an actor, how was the shift from an intense "Raazi" to this film?

All Rights Reserved © Manish Verma, for more Notes visit https://www.manishvermanotes.com/
11

A: There was a gap of a few months. "Raazi" was a film I was carrying on my shoulder, so

I was very stressed, but I did it. With "Gully Boy," to be honest, there was just a 3-day

workshop as it was all about Ranveer doing everything. So, I was like "Wow! This is so
much fun!" There was no tension; I could be myself. So, I was packing up early, sleeping

nicely and generally having a very good time.

Q: Your film is opening at Berlinale. ("Gully Boy" had its world premiere at the 69th Berlin

Film Festival on Feb. 8: this interview was done a day before the premiere)

A: Yes, we are leaving tonight, and it's great. I have been there before for "Highway,' but

now "Gully Boy" is in the competition as well, so it's going to be more challenging. It is a
tough audience over there.

Q: You will be working for the first time with your dad Mahesh Bhatt, who is returning to
direction with "Sadak 2." When are you beginning the film?

A: We will be starting in May, and honestly, I don't know how it is going to be. I am scared,

and I don't know what he is going to do, because dad keeps looking at me oddly! I guess

we will add a different dynamic to our relationship!

Q: Last but not the least, do you think you deserve the National Award this year for

"Raazi?"

A: You know something? I think you should not demand, but command a National Award!

Sub: Complaint Letter against Robbery

Dear Sir,

It is to state that, I was going to my friend's home in Panchsheel Enclave (20.02.23) on my

car, while crossing the road I saw two men (or more) who were standing across the road

tried to stop cars by waving their hands. I thought might be possible, they need some

help, a car applied the brakes and stopped and asked them what if they need some help.

Suddenly one of them pulled out a pocket knife (or gun) and ordered the car owner to
come out of the car. He had no other choice except to do as they command. He came out
of his car, one man started searching pockets and the other stood still pointing the knife

towards him. They took all cash, cards, cellular phone, and laptop too.

After taking all the valuable things, they ran towards their car, started its engine and

vanished from there within a few moments. All belongings which they snatched away are

enlisted as follows-

I request you to file my complaint against those robbers and arrest them as soon as

Q. 5. (a) You recently watched a film that made you very emotional. Write about it
in a diary entry.

Ans. (a) Thappad' is a Bollywood drama, helmed by Anubhav Sinha. The movie star

Taapsee Pannu is in the lead role. 'Thappad' is set on the premise of a married couple who

have a seemingly effortless relationship, but an unexpected slap changes everything.

Amrita (Taapsee Pannu) confines herself in a corner of the house, contemplating on what

just happened. Hours before this, the same house was bustling with guests dancing to

popular Punjabi tracks. And all that maddening noise just drowned under the deafening
silence of a slap.

The film takes its own sweet time in expressing the dynamics of Amrita-Vikram's arranged

marriage and how the two of them manage to blend in well with each other's financially-

imbalanced, yet likeable, families.

All Rights Reserved © Manish Verma, for more Notes visit https://www.manishvermanotes.com/
14

Sure, Vikram loves his wife, but he has made a monster out of his career goals, which the

better half supports and harbours with all her heart. Even before the conflict arises, you

can see an uber happy Taapsee making plans of a 'big blue door' at their future London
apartment. Naturally, when the slap happens, her world turns over and even both sides

of the family are divided on what is right, what is wrong and how much is too much, and

the protocols of marriage in our Indian setting. Irrespective of various views thrown at her,

Amrita is fiesty and resolves to channel the inner fighter in her and stands up for what she
truly believes in - that even one slap is outrageous and not okay.

'Thappad' is not just a film aimlessly ranting about borderline domestic violence; it brings

to light the years of conditioning that a woman is subjected to by her own family and the

society that she lives in. Other than the aforementioned couple, there are other women

in focus, too - one who is bearing the brunt of a family's name and legacy, one hung up
on the idea that marriage is the ultimate destination, one coming from the poorer section

of the society who is compelled to believe that getting thrashed by the husband is the

norm, and one who has loved and lost a fine husband and is now struggling to find a

replacement who outdoes the former. Sinha manages to intertwine all these stories and
juxtaposition them with one another at right junctions, without being too in-your-face

about it. The subtly works beautifully, as the stark contrast in their lives unfold.

Taapsee, as the submissive wife, who suddenly undergoes an ocean of change within her,

is a firecracker of a performer in this drama. Taapsee delivers a speech that is cathartic to

its very core. Her portrayal is restrained but at the same time, in every scene she exposes

a gamut of emotions - pain, disgust, regret and rage - without saying too much. To sum
it up, 'Thappad' is a silent slap on our society's age-old belief - shaadi mein sab kuch

chalta hain. But, honestly, should it be that way? And that is what we need to start talking

about... now!

Q. 6. (a) Write a review of a short film/series that you recently watched.

Ans. 'Delhi Crime' review: Wrenching, shocking; the best Indian Netflix show since

Sacred Games. Starring a stunning ensemble, led by Shefali Shah, Rasika Duggal and

Rajesh Tailang. Rating: 4/5.

In December, Delhi becomes a dystopia. We wheeze in the fumes of toxicity and rage. An
ominous smog hangs in the air, limp like the hopes and dreams of its people. Tempers

flare easily, viruses circulate like the plague. Lives are lost to the cold, among those who

walk the streets are miscreants and monsters, but this great city, it endures.

The fateful night of 16th December 2012 would always be remembered as a blot on

the face of India, a nation whose leaders promised the empowerment of its women. What

happened that night took our society to unprecedented depths of decadence from where
there could be no return. Jyoti Singh Pandey, a Physiotherapy Intern, was returning home

with her friend Awindra Pratap Pandey after catching a movie. Unable to find a mode of

conveyance at the Munirka bus stop, they chanced upon a private bus that seemed to be

going to Dwarka which was their destination. Little did they know that the six passengers
who were present in the bus would change their lives forever. On their way, when one of

the passengers began an altercation with Awindra, the rest joined in and started beating

the young man. When Jyoti tried to defend him, they dragged her to the back of the bus

and raped her repeatedly. However, one of the men did not stop there. He violated her
with a metal rod and then threw them both out of the bus to die on the roadside.

Humanity had been buried alive. What came to be known as the 'Nirbhaya' case became

a dark chapter in our collective history.

The crime drama series Delhi Crime by Richie Mehta transcends the stereotypes

established by popular crime drama that precede it. Apart from being a thriller that checks
all of the boxes of an action-packed police story, Delhi Crime goes far beyond by being

first and foremost a social drama inspired by true events.

All Rights Reserved © Manish Verma, for more Notes visit https://www.manishvermanotes.com/
18

Following the events that led to the arrest of the culprits of the harrowing 2012 Delhi

gang-rape case, the series is tough to watch -the very reason it is important. Mehta

represents the highly disturbing details in a crude manner that comes close to
representing the collective horror felt by the general public in real life.

The series is not, however, neutral in its portrayal of the police force. In Mehta's vision,

the police are decidedly and largely governed by an inner sense of duty. The vast majority

of the characters go out of their way to fulfil their responsibility and weed out the criminals

from their hiding spots. Similarly, the death penalty is also inarguably portrayed as the
epitome of justice. This begs the question of the authenticity of this portrayal during the

current times when voices against the unchecked power of the force are increasingly

rising. While it can (and probably will) be passed as a subjective portrayal of a

questionable institution, these questions are nonetheless the ones that stand out in a
critique of the show.

The only people the show humanises are the police. All other characters-protesters,

families of the culprits, victim's kin, media, politicians and civil society-spout synthetic

dialogues that help them fit perfectly into the narrative of how the Delhi Police fought a

brave battle to nab the culprits and earned very little praise for it.

(b) Write a blog about your plans for celebrating New Year with your friends.

Ans. Every year we wait for New Year as it is the new beginning and we decide a new

resolution. But this year was very different and new year is a new hope to come out of this
pandemic. Every year I party with my friends and we do a lot of masti and fun.

The past few months have been challenging for many of us and New Year's Eve is a perfect
day to reflect and reset. We know it's hard around the holidays, which are normally a time

filled with parties and family festivities, but it's important to practise social distancing to

minimize the spread of Covid-19.

Q. 8. You spent the whole semester without meeting your classmates and teachers.

Write about your thoughts and feelings on this in your diary.

Ans.

Dear Diary

As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to sweep across the country, students, families, and

teachers are navigating college-while much of the country still shelters in place. Some

students are preparing for a return to remote learning. Others are still unsure of how
exactly they will be attending college this year.

College has been a safe space where I'm the most "me." I would wake up much happier.

I had confidence in my routine, and I was surrounded by friends who made me feel

excited to start the day. With online learning, I just carry on about my day with no specific

emotion.

The hardest part about attending college remotely is maintaining a routine and

motivation. For in-person classes, I would get dressed and have to physically be present

which put a start to my day.

Now, I sometimes turn on my computer as soon as I wake up and not give myself the
mental space ahead of time to start my day. On the plus side, with online learning, there

is a lot more flexibility in my schedule since I'm able to complete an assignment on my

own timeframe. Most of my professors are honoring mental health, and are more

understanding of external factors that impact the quality of education now that we're
learning remotely.

Being part of the Enduring Ideas Fellowship has kept me busy working 20 hours a

week. I'm also trying to get creative by learning how to cook and attempting new recipes.

With my friends, we've all been checking-in and making sure we're able to support one
another through these mentally-draining times.

Only two of my professors have reached out and asked how we're doing, so there

isn't much support on that end. While it can be mentally challenging and exhausting, I'm

very fortunate to have access to technology and internet connection so I can complete

my coursework. And I'm able to stay at home and quarantine if need be.

COVID-19 has been a massive global calamity. It has taken lives and challenged some
of the world's strongest nations and institutions. It also led to a major financial and

economic crisis for several industries and countries. But looking on the positive side, it

has taught us some really important lessons.

Firstly, we've been reminded to value human life everywhere. Wars for power and control

seem more meaningless than ever.

Second, this pandemic has also helped reduce global pollution. With fewer cars on streets

and fewer airplanes in the sky, the earth is getting a moment to heal.

Third, this life-changing pandemic is a true lesson in disguise for my generation. It has

taught us to value the small things in life which we take for granted like good health,
beautiful nature, and the opportunity to enjoy both freely.

Q. 9. You are a travel agent. Write a dialogue with a customer enquiring about a

holiday tour package to Jaipur.

Answer: -

Travel Agent: Good morning, sir. I am Gupta and I am calling from Vistara Tours and

Travels. You have shown interest in our Jaipur tour package.

Customer: Yes, I would like to know more about this package.

Travel Agent: Sir, we have 3 tour packages, and our most popular one is the Ajmer Tour.

This is a 3-day, 2-night stay, with pick up and drop to the airport.

Travel Agent: Affectionately nicknamed "The Pink City" for the blushing colour of its
historic buildings, Jaipur is a princely wonderland of culture and heritage, brimming with

architectural gems. It's also a preeminent stop in India's famous Golden Triangle, a

popular tourist circuit. Prepare to be captivated by the grandeur of Jaipur, the capital of

Rajasthan. City Palace gives you a taste of the lavish lifestyle afforded to the royal family
of Jaipur. Just next door, the astronomical instruments at the Jantar Mantar observatory

bring the mysteries of space down to Earth. And depending on the time of your visit, you

may be able to experience one of the many festivals that fill Jaipur's annual calendar, like

the International Kite Festival in January or Elephant Festival in early spring. Ready to make

your trip to "The Paris of India" a memorable experience? Map out your itinerary with our
guide to the top-rated attractions and places to visit in Jaipur.

Customer: Okay, this seems very interesting. And what would be the itinerary on day 3?

Travel Agent: Sir, day 3 of the tour involves an excursion to Elephant Festival and also

the famous Baba Mandir. Tsomgo Lake is located 12,000 feet above sea level, which

means the view is breathtaking. Our next stop is the Baba Harbhajan Mandir, a shrine that

is dedicated to the Indian soldier Captain Harbhajan Singh.

Travel Agent: The cost of this package is INR 12,000/- sir, but we are offering a festive

discount. So, we are offering a special price of INR 9,000/-. This also includes a

complimentary breakfast.

Customer: This sounds great! Is there any validity for this package? I intend to travel to
Sikkim next month.

Travel Agent: Sir this package is valid until the end of this month, but if you make an

advance payment, you can avail of the same prices the next month as well.

Customer: Okay what would be the advance amount?

Travel Agent: Sir, you can pay 15% of the package now and then pay the rest by next

month. If you pay now, we shall block your dates.

Customer: Great, how shall I book the package? And what are the formalities to be done?

Travel Agent: Sir, I would need a copy of your identity proof. You can send me a photo

of your Driving license or PAN card. And as for the payment, you can login to our website

and pay there. We accept all major credit cards and debit cards.

Customer: Sound fine. But I will need to visit your office. Can you send me your address?

Travel Agent: Definitely sir, I will message you the location and address on your mobile.

Customer: Okay.

Travel Agent: Thank you, sir.

Travel Agent: And feel free to reach out to me in case you want to clarify or get in touch
with us.
Customer: Thank you, I will. Have a good day.

Travel Agent: Okay sir, you have a good day too.

Q. 10. Write a review of a movie or a web series you recently watched.

Answer - It’s a classic movie that everyone loves. Dangal is both inspiring and

entertaining Dangal Story: When Mahavir Singh Phogat (Aamir), a wrestler from Haryana,
loses hope of having a son, he trains his daughters Geeta (Fatima) and Babita (Sanya) to

make wrestling history, thus breaking the taboo of Indian women participating in a sport

thus far dominated by men.

Dangal Review: In the story department, Dangal offers few surprises because Geeta and

Babita's historic wins at the Commonwealth Games and following championships are
common knowledge. However, this screen adaptation serves as a recap of their arduous

journey and it vigorously recaptures their stubborn father's resolve to make them

professional wrestlers against the odds. Since it encapsulates the historic wins of the

Phogats, who brought India glory, the film is also bound to inspire more women to
seriously consider kushti as a sport.

What works wonderfully here is the writing. Director Nitesh Tiwari, along with Piyush
Gupta, Shreyas Jain and Nikhil Mehrotra should be complimented for their tongue-in-

cheek quality, peppered with humour and several poignant father-daughter emotions all

through. Of course, a little bit is lost in translation because of the Haryanvi twang. But,

messages on our obsession with the male child (prevalent since the dark ages), myopic
stand on bringing up our daughters and the administration’s pathetic disposition towards

sports, are loud and clear.

It is to the film’s credit that though Geeta and Babita’s wins are documented, it still

manages to engage the viewer with the wrestling tournaments and bring patriotic

emotions to the fore. Most importantly, Dangal scores with its first-rate performances.

An ungainly Aamir (22 kilos heavier) with grey hair is pitch-perfect as the ziddi yet

sensitive parent. The 51-year-old actor should be complimented for experimenting with

28

his roles, unlike his contemporaries who prefer to play safe. Sakshi as his wife, is restrained,

yet effective. And, the debutants Fatima and Sanya are easily this year’s best finds.

Cast: Aamir Khan, Sakshi Tanwar, Fatima Sana Sheikh, Sanya Malhotra, Zaira Wasim,

Suhani Bhatnagar, Ritwik Sahore, Aparshakti Khurana, Girish Kulkarni

Director: Nitesh Tiwari

A sports biopic, Dangal totally justifies the real-life story of Haryana wrestler who trained

his older two daughters in the art of wrestling and turned them into champions. The film
delivers a very important message with such sincerity that it just doesn’t overwhelm the

storytelling.

Messages on our obsession with the male child, bigoted stand on bringing up our

daughters and the administration’s wretched attitude towards sports, are loud and clear.

Amir Khan is a pure finesse who can go to any extent to completely erase the boundary
which detaches the actor from the character? His deliberate gaits to match with the

demand of the role as an aspiring wrestler with muscles and a passionate father with a

heavy belly can easily convince you that the movie has really covered an era while making.

In the male dominant state of Haryana, where the girl child is still unacceptable in most
of the families, there cannot be a more important message. The belief that real-life Phogat
showed in his girls, as they went on to win honor is definitely setting an example.

Also, Dangal blends humor with intensity. The lighthearted dialogues, peppered with

humor and heartrending father-daughter emotions runs throughout the movie. When the

first half of the movie shows how the young Geeta and Babita turn into willing fighters

from young innocent girls, the second half on the mat tells us how to learn the art of
losing, and, above all, to win.

But what wins our heart is the not-so-perfect yet so perfect character of Mahavir Phogat.

He is guilty of taking away his daughter’s childhood and turning them into the boys that

29

he doesn't have. But his obstinacy ends up breaking all the traditional taboos of this

patriarchal society for its own good.

Dangal is a film that is both inspiring and entertaining. Since it highlights the glorious

wins of the Phogats, the film is also bound to encourage more women to seriously take
up kushti as a sport.

I know it is a bit long. But it’s nice.

“Step-by-Step Guide on How to Write a Movie Review.”

Answer - Writing a movie review may not be as challenging as it first appears. This type

of academic assignment is not the most complicated one by far. However, it still has its

own peculiarities – and if you can get these rights, you will succeed.

To get started with your paper, you need to know and understand the main
characteristics of a good movie review:

 It provides bibliographic information;

 It shares a clear but concise characterization of the movie in question;

 It includes a description of the plot, which, however, does not give away any spoilers;

 It identifies the key characters and actors;

 It identifies the setting, themes, conflicts, in addition to other details present in the
movie and evaluates them;

 It compares the film to other similar ones;

 It identifies the key strong and weak points of the film;

 It gives an overall evaluation of the movie.

Also, another important thing to be aware of in order to understand how to start a movie
review is the proper formatting of such an assignment. The key to success in handling

your movie review is decent organization. Just like every other academic paper, a good

30

film review essay should follow a specific structure, style, and, most importantly,

formatting.

Here are the key takeaways for how to format your paper:

 Use 1-inch margins on all sides;

 Pick a clear and readable font (the preferred fonts are Times New Roman, Courier,
and Bookman);

 Set the font size to 12 pt.;

 Centre the title of the paper along with your name.

Finally, to succeed in writing a movie review, all you need to do is follow the right

sequence of actions that will gradually bring you to your desired result. In this section of

our article, we are going to share a detailed step-by-step guide for how to write a film
review.

Movie Review Outline

Structuring is extremely useful in any type of paper and a movie review isn’t an exception.

A written outline will help you organize your thoughts properly, not to forget anything

and to actually end up writing it faster. Here is an example outline you may use:

 Introduction: In this part you need to provide some general information about the

picture: title, release date, main actors, filmmakers, film company and filming budget.

 Summary of the story: This is a short exposition of movie plot, characters and their
interaction.

 Analysis of the movie, that includes:

 Analysis of the plot elements: starting point, rising action, and climax.

 Analysis of creative elements: dialogues, characters, use of colours, camera

techniques, mood, tone, symbols, costumes or anything that contributes or takes away

from the overall plot.

All Rights Reserved © Manish Verma, for more Notes visit https://www.manishvermanotes.com/
31

 Analysis of the topic and its implementation: viewers’ understanding of the topic,

relevance of the topic, and comparison with other resembling works.

 Opinion: Your point of view supported with examples and facts from the story.
 Conclusion: Announce whether the filmmaker was successful in his/her purpose.

Explain how the motion picture was helpful in providing a deeper understanding of

the course topic.
