Travel Encounters

It came ambling down a dusty road alone... (d66)

11 You notice a bunch of round rocks subtly pointing towards a tree. If investigating the tree, roll a D6. On a one, you are
bit by a squirrel. 2-6, roll on Things Found in a Tree table.
12 A young boy and his huge red dog are fending off a pack of wolves.
13 It begins to rain a strange sticky, cold rain which penetrates your clothing. Without soon taking cover and drying your
clothes, you'll begin to die from hypothermia.
14 You come upon a beautiful pond which does not appear on your map. Swimming in it during the day will provide
healing properties and feelings of immense joy. At night, tendrils reach from the pond's bottom and attempt to drown
anything which enters.
15 A group of pyromaniacal raiders are burning a country cottage with the family still inside.
16 You pass through a very small village which is deathly quiet. From the windows of the homes, humans stare out at you
silently. If investigated, you learn that they are corpses which have been propped up in the windows. Their killer is
nearby.
21 A troll guards a bridge and charges the answer to a riddle. His invisible ally will rob the party as they attempt to solve
the riddle. The riddle goes as follows: What gets lighter the longer it stands still?
22 An old man approaches you and offers to pay you a sack of gold to record an impression of your face with his magical
recording machine. Anyone who agrees to the bargain will awaken the next day having aged several years.
23 An inky black 8-foot tall monster appears gurgling horrific nonsense from between the trees. It turns out to be two
children, beneath a black sheet, on each other's shoulders just looking for a laugh.
24 An old haggard woman with blackened teeth and deep set red eyes is shambling down the road. She begs you to kill
her but she won't say why. Once slain, the woman will return to life in the form of a beautiful young maiden and pass
the curse to you. The next person to deal you a mortal blow will be passed the curse, but telling anyone the details of it
will cause it to become permanent.
25 A thick quicksand covers the road. Pulling anyone from it will only cause them to be sucked in harder. Extreme heat or
cold, however, will reverse the reaction and release the grip.
26 Given a successful perception or presence check, the party begins to notice thick white webbing in the forest around
them. If the party rests in this area, giant spiders will attempt to entomb them in webbing while they sleep. These
webs can be easily defeated only with fire.
31 A mirrored orb falls down from the sky in front of you and shatters. If you painstakingly piece it back together, a
process which could take days, the orb will emit a beautiful glowing light and grant you the ability to reroll a d20 once
per day. Attempting to put the orb back together but failing to do so correctly will cause it to explode, potentially
blinding you.
32 An old man approaches with a young child. He seems desperate and implores you to watch the child for a brief
moment while he relieves himself in the woods. If you agree, he disappears and never comes back.
33 A white rabbit crosses the road in front of you. If you follow it deeply into the woods, you will become impossibly lost
and see wild colorful visions. After a few days, you will find yourself back on the road.
34 A black cat crosses the path in front of you. If you continue forward and walk directly over the path it took, a man in
black will meet with you in the coming days and sell you a cursed item. Making any attempt at avoiding the cat's path
will prevent this.

35 You notice a bag with the word "gold" written on in it in several languages. It is hanging from a tree and suspended
roughly 8 feet in the air. The area beneath the sack is trapped and will fall away to a deep spike pit. The sack is full of
bones.
36 A heavily loaded wagon comes barreling down a perpendicular road to you. It is clearly completely out of control, with
a father and son at the reins trying to control it. Cargo is flying everywhere, and the drivers are certain to suffer a
horrific crash.
41 A traveling salesman is selling beautiful exotic birds which he claims bring good fortune and can be trained to talk
and warn of danger. If purchased, the birds will fly off after a few days and return to the salesman.
42 A group of purple goblins are carving up and eating an unidentifiable carcass beside the road. If attacked, they will
defend themselves. But they are simply cursed humans and know many useful things about the area.
43 A cloud of locusts can be heard a mile before they're seen. They are in a deep, buzzing swarm along the road. They can
be avoided with a wide detour. Passing directly through them will result in all fabric being eaten.
44 You notice the foundation of an old building in the woods. Walking on the foundation will cause it to collapse,
dropping you inside. In the collapsed basement you may find the components for making explosives.
45 A baby bear cub is sleeping in the middle of the path. You see no parents around, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t
there.
46 The road is covered with round purple mushrooms. Disturbing any of them will release a poison gas which causes
suicidal hallucinations--unless one's will is strong enough to resist. They have healing properties if carefully picked
and cured.
51 A pretty young girl approaches. She will attempt to make friends with you, being as kind as possible. She has been
corrupted by local crones and wishes to destroy anything beautiful.
52 A party approaches which looks vaguely like your own adventuring party. They match in appearance, clothing and
profession. They're just as skeptical as you and claim that you're trying to copy them.
53 You meet an incredibly chipper fellow, wearing a well-fitted and comfortable looking wool suit. He carries only a light
bag. He agrees to guide you to where you're headed and shares fun stories with you as you go. He's not in any way
harmful and survives on the kindness of strangers.
54 You hear a sound like rain from the trees above you. Upon closer inspection, the sound is being generated by a
massive infestation of red worms which are eating the trees.
55 An old wizard crosses your path with a joke book and a spell book. If you can make him laugh, he'll add a joke to his
book and teach you a useless spell.
56 A weary traveler is selling various delicious lemonades. They promise to slake your thirst like nothing else. Drinking it
will cause you to become temporarily paralyzed, during which time the traveler will steal your money.
61 You find a huge ark buried in the woods. Anyone who opens it will have their face melted off.
62 A penguin is standing in the middle of the road in front of you. It is hungry and willing to eat anything to survive.
63 A bridge has been destroyed which previously crossed a deep chasm with a river running below it. Ropes have been
strung across, but they’re fraying.
64 The road ahead forks where it should not. Choosing either path will always lead back to the same fork. Only turning
around and backtracking will allow travelers to move forward. Each time a fork is taken, the party suffers
psychological damage and horrifying visions.
65 Throughout the day, you hear several large trees falling down in the forest around you. If you investigate, you will be
attacked by a mad were-beaver who is stalking you.
66 A band of ragged highwaymen have taken high position along the road in waiting. Particularly perceptive travelers
might catch a glimpse of them hiding on the hill.
