to a problem

Performance Standard:
The performance task was given in the previous lesson
.

Lesson Title: Solution Name of Teacher: Mrs. Remedios F. Calubaquib

Learning Area: Sciences Grade Level: Grade 7

Week Number and Dates: Quarter: First Quarter

Week 6-7, September 18-29, 2023

I. Introduction / Pre-Assessment

Look around you. You see all sorts of things in different states, shapes, sizes, and colors. Everything you see is part of matter. Some matter are pure substances while some are

mixtures.

II. Learning Objectives

Upon completion of the learning plan, the learners will be able to:

1. Identify some important properties of solutions, S7MT - Id - 3

2. manifest the value of the spirit of excellence by being able to know the uses of common solutions, especially in our everyday life;

3. apply the lesson in investigating the properties of mixtures of varying concentrations (S7MT-Ie-f-4)

III. Presentation of the Lesson (with activities and exercises)

Day 01

1. Essential Question:
How are solutions be differentiated from one another?

2.Review (10 min./ interpersonal and linguistic-verbal)

The students will be playing a game for the review/recap of last year’s lesson about mixtures.

( Kinds of mixtures were already discussed last year.)

e.g. What are the two types of mixtures?

What type of mixtures have particles dissolved evenly?
In which type of mixtures can you identify the components?
In which type of mixtures are the components uniform throughout?
What are the 3 types of mixtures based on the size of particles?
Rank 1-2-3 the size of particles in solution, suspension and colloid.
Under what kind of mixtures is solution?
Under what kind of mixtures are suspension and colloid

3.Lesson Proper/Lesson Development ( 40 mins.verbal, logical)

To facilitate student engagement, the teacher will be asking the following guide questions:
 What is the sub-classification of homogeneous mixtures?

The sub-classification of homogeneous mixtures is a solution. It is uniform in appearance and shows only one phase of two or more substances mixed together.

What are the two parts of a solution?

Two Parts of a Solution:

a. Solute – It is the substance being dissolved.
b. Solvent – It is the dissolving medium.

 Why is water called the universal solvent?

 Can all kinds of solutes dissolve in a solvent?

 Give examples of very soluble, slightly soluble and insoluble in solvent.

 Can a liquid solute be dissolved in another liquid? What do miscible and immiscible mean?

 Give examples of miscible and immiscible mixture.

Solvent and solute may be solid, liquid or gas. Therefore, solution may also be in solid, liquid and gas.

 Give examples of solution in solid, liquid, gaseous state.

Classify the kind of solution according to state;

a. Alloy ( Then identify the phase of matter of solute and solvent.

b. Soda drinks

c. Air

d. Bronze

e. Ethyl alcohol

IV. Generalization ( 5 mins., verbal)

One sentence completion.
Solution is ________________.

V. Evaluation ( formative 5 mins.,kinesthetic, intrapersonal)

Identify the solute and solvent in the following>

1. 1a teaspoon of sugar dissolved in a cup of water

2. 10 g of carbon mixed with 20 g iron

3. 15 mL ethylene glycol poured into 35 mL of water

4. 500 mL of CO2 in 1.5L of water

Day 2

1. EQ; How are solutions be differentiated from one another?

2. Review: ( 5 mins. Verbal, logical )

What are the parts of a solution?

Identify the phase of matter of solute and solvent for the following solutions:

a. Mercury in copper

b. Sterling silver

c. Soft drinks

d. Air

e. Powdered juice

3. Lesson Proper: (

Can all these solutes dissolve in sovent?

What does solubility mean?

 What are the factors that may affect solubility?

1. Nature of solute and solvent

2. Temperature

3. Pressure

a. Why does salt dissolve in water and why does oil not dissolve in water?

( dissolve like )polar solvents dissolve polar solute and nonpolar solvent dissolves nonpolar solute

b. Temperature

In which temperature of water will sugar dissolve faster, hot coffee or iced coffee?

Iced coffee Hot coffee

Less sugar Lots of sugar

SOLID

Temperature Solubility

GAS

Temperature Solubility
c. Pressure

Pressure Solubility

Carbon dioxide ( solute )is dissolved at high pressure inside a container. When container is opened, the pressure decreases , and therefore, reducing the solubility of

carbon dioxide.

Factors that affect the Rate of Solubility

Explain how the following factors affect the rate of solubility

a. Stirring
b. Particles size

c. Temperature

Let them compare and contrast the two solutions. If you will be offered with these drinks, which do you
prefer? Why? How are these solutions described? Differentiate concentrated solution from diluted.
How will you compare the amount of alcohol present in a 70% rubbing alcohol with that of 40% rubbing
alcohol?

What are the types of solution according to amount of solute? Differentiate unsaturated, saturated and
supersaturated.
How much solute is mixed with each solution?

IV. Generalization:

TILT_____Call several students to recite.

Today I learned to ______.

V. Evaluation

Let them classify their learning as saturated if they learn a little, saturated if they learned enough of the lesson and supersaturated if they learned more than enough.

Day 3-4

1. EQ; How are solutions be differentiated from one another?

2. Review: ( 10 mins, verbal, logical )

 What are the three types of solution according to amount of solute?
 How much solute is dissolved in saturated solution? Unsaturated?supersaturated?
 What is the solubility of solids in high temperature?
 What is the solubility of gas in high temperature?
 Why do oil and water not mixed?

Identify the factor that affect the solubilty.

Like dissolves like.” NATURE OF SOLVENT AND SOLUTE

The solvent can dissolve smaller solutes. SURFACE AREA OF SOLUTE

Hotter solvents can dissolve more solutes. TEMPERATURE OF SOLVENTS

A stirrer can help in dissolving solutes. STIRRING OF THE SOLUTION

3. Lesson Proper: ( 50 mins., intrapersonal, logical )

How is the solubility of solution expressed quantitatively?

Three kinds of quantitative concentration of solution and some exercises for the students:

Percent by mass

Percent by volume

f.

Percent by mass over volume

Give the students several exercises for mastery of solving for the quantitative concentration of solution.
9. What is the mass percentage of a solution made by dissolving 4 g. NaCl in 100 g.of water?
4g. x 100% = 3.85

10.What is the percent by mass of 5 g. of iron sulfate dissolved in 75 g of solution?

5 g. X 100 % = 6.66

IV. Generalization: ( 10 mins, verbal, logical )

The three important ideas/things from the lesson today are ____, ____, and ___, but the most important
thing I learned today is ____ because ____.
EQ: ; How are solutions be differentiated from one another?

Value Integration ( 10 mins, verbal, logical)

We are facing different problems; at home, in school, in our environment and even our country. Can you
share with us your most difficult problem.. What do you usually do if you have a problem? ( Call some
students) . Then draw out from the students theare trials make us a better person. And what should we do
to become victorious over problems? ( We must be part of the SOLUTION.)
