Evaluating Functions - Lesson 2
Evaluating Functions - Lesson 2
I. Objectives
At the end of the lesson, the students shall be able to:
a. evaluated function
b. solve problem involving function; and
c. develop cooperation during discussion and group activity
III. Procedure
A. Preparatory Activities
1. Classroom Routine
Prayer
Greetings
Attendance
Class Rules
B. Development Activities
Motivation
The teacher will be having an activity to refresh the memory of the
students from his past lesson.
Direction: Get one piece of scratch paper and answer the question written
on it.
Function
2. What is the variable that is known as the range or the output value?
Y variable
3. What is the test used to identify if the given graph is function?
Vertical line test
C. Lesson Proper
1. Activity: Function Machine!
The teacher will divide the class into three groups. Each group
should provide the materials given in this activity (manila
paper, marker and tape).
Mechanics:
2. Every member will help each other to find the output in the given
machine. The first group to write and raise the correct output will
gain 2 points.
3. The group that will have the highest score will be the winner.
Questions:
2. Analysis.
The teacher will ask the following questions:
3. Abstraction
The teacher will discuss the following concepts.
1. f(x) = 2x + 1
Solution:
f(x) = 2(1.5) + 1
f(x) = 3 + 1
f(x) = 4
2. q(x) = x 2 − 2x + 2
Solution:
q(x) = ¿ – 2(1.5) + 2
q(x) = 2.25 – 3 + 2
q(x) = 1.25
3. g(x) = √ x+ 2
Solution:
g(x) = √ 1.5+2
g(x) = √ 2.5
2 x +1
4. r(x) =
x−1
Solution:
2(1.5)+ 1
r(x) =
1.5−1
3+1
r(x) =
0.5
4
r(x) =
0.5
r(x) = 8
At x = 2x + 3
5. f(x) = x 2−2 x + 2
Solution:
f(x) = ¿ – 2(2 x+3 ) + 2
f(x) = 4 x 2 + 12x + 9 – 4x – 6 + 2
f(x) = 4 x 2 + 12x – 4x + 9 – 6 + 2
f(x) = 4 x 2 + 8x + 5
4. Application
1. g(x) = 3x + 2
2. h(x) = 3x – 1
3. r(x) = x 2+ 2 x−2
Generalization
The teacher will ask the following questions:
IV. Evaluation
The teacher will give an assessment to the students to assess their learnings.
4
Direction: Given f(x) = , find the following values;
x
1. f (1)
2. f (2)
3. f (-1)
4. f (√ 2)
5. f(1/x)
6. f(2x)
V. Assignment
1. f (0)
2. f (3)
3. f (-1)
4. f (x+1)
5. f( π )
6. f(3x)
