Lesson step-by-step instructions


Topic 1: Understand the print settings, Activity
1. Open L1_T1_act_annual_produce.xlsx.
2. After the discussion about why it’s important to consider page and print settings,
select File > Print.
3. Ask students how many pages would be printed if you selected the Print button (10).
4. Select Next Page and Previous Page (the arrows at the bottom of the window) to
scroll through the pages.
5. Ask students if they have any suggestions on what would help reduce the amount of
paper being used.
6. Select the drop-down against Portrait Orientation, and then select Landscape
(now 12 pages).
7. Select the drop-down against Normal Margins, and then select Narrow Margins.
8. Does that look better? Switch back to Normal Margins.
9. Select the drop-down against No Scaling, and select any option to experiment—the
best to choose in this case is Fit All Columns on One Page.
10. Select the Zoom to Page button in the bottom-right corner of the Print window at
any time to check if the data can be read.
11. Select the Page Setup link at the bottom of Settings to display the dialog box.
12. Select each tab, and then select the OK to close it.
13. Use the Back arrow at the top of the screen to exit the Print window.
14. Select the Page Layout tab and point out that there are three groups available to
help with printing. In particular, point out the Margins, Orientation, Print area, and
the Scale to fit options.
15. Select a random area on the sheet, and use Ctrl+P to open the Print window.
16. Select the drop-down against Print Active Sheets, and select Print Selection.
17. Select Esc to exit the Print window.

9. Select Add to Print Area.
10. From the Orientation drop-down list, select Landscape.

3. Select Clear Print Area.
4. Select File > Print (or Ctrl P).
5. Under Settings, ensure Landscape Orientation is selected.
6. Ensure Fit All Columns on One Page is selected.
7. Select Export.
8. Select Create PDF/XPS.
9. Edit the file name to Annual_Produce_Plus your initials, and then select Publish.

1. Open L1_T2_act_summary.xlsx.
2. Explore the following ways to access the dialog box:
 Select the Page layout tab > Print Titles > select Cancel.
 Select the dialog launcher in the Page Setup group on the Page Layout tab.
 Select the Margins command on the Page Layout tab, and then select Custom
Margins.
 Select the Size command on the Page Layout tab, and then select More Paper
Sizes.
 Select File > Print and select Page Setup link or the drop-down on Margins,
Scaling and Paper.
3. The following options are only found on the Page Setup dialog box:
 The Margins tab has check box for printing horizontally and vertically.
 The Sheet tab can be used to set print options for Comments.
 The Page tab can be used to set the print quality.

1. Open L1_T2_try1_summary_starter.xlsx.
2. Select the Page Layout tab, select the Orientation command, and then select
Landscape.
3. Select the Size command and select A4.
4. Select File > Print (or Ctrl+P).
5. Under Printer, select the drop-down against the current printer, and then select the
Microsoft Print to PDF option.
6. Select Save As and edit the current name to add your initials.
7. Select Save.

1. Open L1_T2_try2_summary_starter.xlsx.
2. Select File > Print (or Ctrl+P).
3. Under Printer, select the drop-down against the current printer, and select the
Microsoft Print to PDF option.
4. Select the Page Setup link under Settings.
5. On the Page tab select the drop-down against Paper size, choose A4, select
Landscape, and then adjust the scale to 140%.
6. Select the Margins tab and set the left and right margins to 1.0 and check the
center on page Horizontally and Vertically boxes.
7. Select OK to complete the alterations and close the dialog box.
8. Select Save As.
9. Edit the file name to include your initials.
10. Select Save.
