NAVITRON SYSTEMS LTD NT925 HDI INSTALLATION & CALIBRATION General :- The NT925 HDI (Heading Data Interface) will provide four types of output data derived from virtually any Synchro or Step by Step gyrocompass heading signals connected to the appropriate input terminals. (i) 2 Channels of isolated NMEA 0183 (1Hz, 10Hz & 25Hz selectable) (ii) 2 Channels of Furuno heading format (5Hz & 40Hz selectable) (iii) 1 Channel of isolated Step by Step (3,6 & 24 steps per degree selectable) (iv) 1 Channel of Navitron Serial Data. Alll four data types are simultaneously and continuously transmitted on the relevant channels on receipt of gyro input signals which are opto isolated within the 925 HDI to eliminate common mode and loading problems Gyro heading data is permanently displayed via a 4 digit LCD with variable backlight illumination for night viewing whilst built in alarm functions triggered by internal monitors warn of Gyro input and/or NMEA output data failure. An internal power monitoring relay provides a volt free normally open (NO) or normally normally closed (NC) contact to warn of power supply failure. Contact ratings 0.5A @ 125Vac, 1A @ 30Vdc. Suitable for 11 - 40Vde power supply connection, the NT925 HDI may be powered up via the unit mounted ON/OFF switch or from a remote location via remote power up terminals also provided. STEP BY STEP GYRO CONNECTIONS TO 925 HDI In most cases, Step by Step Gyro outputs are 'S' type based on 3, 6 or 24 steps per degree. 'M' type outputs are rare and usually associated with older British Admiralty transmission systems. 4 core cable required from Gyro for 925 HDI connection as follows :- (i) 'S' Type (3, 6, 24 Steps/degree) (ii) 'M’ Type (12 Steps/degree) The 925 HDI'S' type or 'M' type Step operating mode is defined by SW1 and SW3 as detailed in Section 3.3 common mode connection problems and minimise loading on the gyro output lines. Tos gl NT925 HDI INSTALLATION & CALIBRATION 925 HDI OUTPUT CONNECTION TO NMEA RECEIVERS: 2 core screened cable required per NMEA output channel. The NT925 HDI transmits one heading sentence type in NMEA 0183 format $HEHDT at an installation selectable update rate of 1Hz, 10Hz or 25Hz on two channels. Each channel is isolated from the other and may be independently set for update rate. Both channels are also opto isolated from the receiver. NT925 HDI APPLICATION NOTE Whilst the NMEA Specification defines that all data receiving equipment shall be internally equipped with opto isolated input stages, this feature does not always exist in proprietary radars, trackplotters and pe’s etc, Potential common mode problems arising from this are eliminated within the NT925 HDI via the use of opto isolated (kv) output stages in both NMEA 0183 output channels (50mA Sink per channel). RS 422 COMPATIBLE OUTPUTS Both NT925 HDI output channels are equipped to drive differential inputs at the receiver via signal lines A and B which move between OV and +5V levels with respect to receiver common. Itis essential therefore that 3 connections are made for RS 422 cofigurations as follows :- OA Rs 422 Plcounon, RECEIVER oB RS 232 COMPATABILITY Since the RS 232 receiver specification calls for +/- 3V signal level acceptance, the NT925 HDI may be connected (output level effectively +/- 5V). The NT925 HDI transmits one channel of opto isolated (1KV) step output data which is installation selectable to provide 3, 6, 12 or 24 steps per degree. Each step line (S1, S2 & S3) is derived from an open collector pull up/pull down (link selectable) output stage with a 50mA max source/sink current rating, Since the output stages are opto isolated to obviate common mode connection problems, independent power supply terminals are also provided within th 925 HDI. This independent power supply (5 - 40Vdc) should be derived from the step receiving equipment or from a source which is common mode compatible with the receiving equipment. The remote ON/OFF function is effectively in parallel with the unit mounted ON/OFF switch thus either will activate the 925 HDI. 925 HDI 925 HDI EXTERNAL POWER FAIL ALARM FACILITY 2 core cable required between 925 HDI and external alarm.
