Experiment #2
VECTORS

I. OBJECTIVE:
To be able to calculate the displacement using vectors.
III. APPARATUS AND MATERIALS: (Note: For materials not available in our homes, you’re
encourage to borrow from anyone in your neighborhood)

-compass/protractor -chalk/any marking tool -Google Maps App

IV. PROCEDURE:

Displacement 1
1. Stand in the middle of an open field/space, at your current position put a mark 0
2. Walk 5 ft northward(the scale of 1 foot is the actual size of your foot) and put a mark A.
3. Walk 8 ft westward and put a mark B.
4. Walk 15 ft, 300 north of East and put a mark C.
5. Walk from point C to point 0 and record your result to table 1.
6. Use analytical method

Displacement 2
1. Stand in the middle of an open field/space, at your current position put a mark 0
2. Walk 10 ft south (the scale of 1 foot is the actual size of your foot) and put a mark A.
3. Walk 20 ft, 600 west of north and put a mark B.
4. Walk 15 ft, 300 north and put a mark C.
5. Walk from point C to point 0 and record your result to table 1.

B. Resultant Vector
Make a sketch or drawing of your house/current location and then choose 4 places, which can
be a famous landmark/establishment/place. Express their location in terms of vectors. Using
estimated locations (Google Maps), calculate the magnitude and direction from your
house/current location to the landmark you chose as a point of destination, Calculate the
resultant vector. Record all the values in table 2 and 3.
V. SOLUTIONS AND COMPUTATIONS
VI. DATA AND RESULTS:

VII. QUESTIONS:

1.) Is there a difference between the actual measurement and computed? If Yes, why?

Yes, there is difference between the actual measurement and computed length. Actual measurement is
the calculation of how long you have traveled while computed length is the calculated distance from the
starting point to your exact location.

2.) Why is sign convention important in computing vectors?

To know the exact angle, degree and direction of your vector.

VIII.CONCLUSION:

This activity helps us to calculate distance, displacement and also angles and degrees which is a very
huge help for us in order to have an accurate information about a specific place and directions.
