Through this Statement of Purpose, I would like to delineate my intention to seize a seat in your
university I, Maaz Ahmad, a resident of Varanasi, India, was born on 22nd February 2004. My
marital status is single. My family consists of five members: my father, mother, brother, sister
and me. My brother is in 9th grade and studying theology simultaneously and my sister is in 8th
grade.
Regarding my academic background, I completed my 10th grade from Sant Atulanand Convent
school in the year 2021 with a GPA of 3.87. I then completed 12th grade in the year 2023 with an
aggregate GPA of 3.26.
After finishing tenth grade, I decided to pursue my career in the medical sector and enrolled in a
higher secondary school in the Science stream to build the foundation for the same. The Medical
industry is one of few industries whose demand for staff grows in sync with population growth.
Bachelor in Psychology is out of the question in India, despite the high-quality medical
education. Although tuition fees are reasonable to those in Australia, practical studies are poorly
conducted here in India. However, I’ve always intended to work in the medical sector. Then I
thought, why not Psychology? Psychologists as a profession would be my way of contributing to
the community.
Why Australia?
In India, Bachelors’s in Psychology is offered by limited colleges. I visited some of these
colleges to learn more about the program, spoke with the admissions staff, and reviewed the
course structure and opportunities each offered. Although these colleges provide affordable
education, they lag behind their international counterparts in curriculum, faculty, and real-life
experience, resulting in insufficient career opportunities. As psychology is a professional degree,
I wanted to get an education that would not only teach me the principles of the industry but also
expose me to the real-world problems and issues we face. Moreover, when I spoke with a few
seniors at these schools, I rarely received any recommendations to pursue my Bachelor’s degree
in India because they were dissatisfied with the daily postponement of final examinations and the
time it took to publish results. In addition, India’s degree isn’t globally competitive. Many
universities and colleges cannot produce skilled manpower by market demand due to a lack of
advanced technology and modern practical learning.
While countries such as Australia, United Kingdom, USA and Germany offered good quality of
education in the field of psychology, comparing many Universities in countries like the US, UK,
Canada, Australia and Europe as my prospective education providers. While the United Kingdom
and Europe offer quality education, their exchange rates are higher than in other countries,
making living and educational costs more costly. Given the fact that Europe offers English-
language courses, the language barrier still exists, preventing students from having a positive
student experience. Although the United States and Canada provide high-quality education, the
lack of a secure living environment, rising gun violence in the United States, and Canada’s cold
and harsh climate are deep issues.
On the other hand, Australia’s educational system is rapidly establishing itself as the best
destination for international students worldwide, due to its highly regarded educational systems
that are renowned for assisting students in developing strong personalities. Australia is an
English-speaking country with a globally recognized degree. In addition, I discovered that
Australia is a better country to pursue a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology. Additionally, the
Australian Government has established the Education Services Overseas Students (ESOS)
framework and Tuition Protection Service, which guarantees foreign students like me the right to
a full refund of fees if my education provider fails to improve the program that was promised.
These reasons reassured me to pursue my studies in Australia.
Why University of Tasmania and Course understanding?
My first impression of University of Tasmania on me was when I attended mooc on Dementia
Care from wicking research centre, I was amazed by the clarity of concept teachers provide and
the latest research they use. The course I have chosen is align with my requirements and provide
me the best basics and strong concrete concepts to help me to become good psychologist.
Further, the most important is scholarship opportunity for my desired course, which is going to
help me financially to live my dreams and making possible to accomplish my studies.
Bachelor of Psychology requires the completion of 24 units – core units and elective units. While
doing Bachelor course, I will be learning units such as Fundamentals of Career Success in
Psychology, Introduction to Psychology II, Introduction to Psychological Investigation,
Psychological Assessment, Advanced Psychological Investigation, Social Psychology, Learning
and Memory, Quantitative Methods in Psychology, Advanced Quantitative Methods in
Psychology, Abnormal Psychology, Development across the Lifespan, Biological Psychology,
Cross-Cultural and Indigenous Issues in Psychology and Applied Psychological Investigation. In
addition, I’m considering taking the fourth year of study by enrolling in the accredited Bachelors
of Psychological Science with Honours, which is also the minimum education qualification to
apply for conditional registration as a postgraduate intern in psychology in Australia. In this
fourth year, I will be collecting knowledge, skill that was acquired during my bachelor’s degree
which is required to be a certified psychologist.
The Bachelor of the psychology program at University of Tasmania is designed to help students
gain both theoretical and practical knowledge to become competent and successful
Psychologists. The course is designed to assist me in gaining a broad understanding of
Psychology. We will need to understand the industry from a broader perspective in addition to
the core set of technical skills, so the right mix of core and elective courses will be critical.
The particular benefit that I will have as a student of University of Tasmania and Australia as a
whole will be the study of industry-relevant curriculum supplemented by actual exposure to the
medical industry. It will assist me with developing business acumen, learning etiquette, and
gaining a better awareness of foreign conventions, practices, and values, all of which will benefit
my future profession. I intend to take advantage of this chance by becoming involved, if at all
feasible, in a top medical organization in order to get international job experience by
collaborating with a diversified team.
Future Career Plan,
The medical industry is rapidly increasing and is expected to be one of the largest service
industries in India in the coming years. With the arrival of various high-quality medical
instruments in India, I have known the importance of a successful brand. One of the key
motivations to seek a bachelor’s in Psychology rather than a general medical program is because
of this reason. After completing the Bachelor’s degree, I also plan to undertake a 1 year
accredited Bachelor of Psychological Science with Honours as the website of University of
Tasmania says that is the minimum educational qualification required to apply for conditional
registration as a postgraduate intern in psychology in Australia. From this course, I will not just
make myself rich in knowledge but will open up a door full of new possibilities in almost any
field of psychology once I return to my country, as a Psychologist.
Also, I have a clear idea of what I want to accomplish after my education. My country is
experiencing a steady brain drain as the young population continues to go abroad, away from
their families and homes permanently, and I do not want to be one of them. I want to get a
quality education initially, then earn a few years of experience to gain the necessary knowledge
and skills. My family has always supported my dreams and inspired me throughout the years to
help me achieve them all, including sending me abroad for quality education. My parents will
someday get old, and I will be obligated to take on their responsibilities. As a result, this is the
main basis for me to return to India.
Financial Sponsorship
My family consists of five members: my father, mother, brother, sister, and me. My father is the
only one who make money out of the five of us. My father works for private sector as a foreman.
His annual salary is 3,60,000 INR. So, basically he provides livelihood to five of us, my siblings
education and our necessities, so I’m totally dependent on University scholarship for my tution
and education loan on the basis of family land for accomodation.
Research on accommodations:
I am aware of the visa requirements for overseas students in Australia, and I am willing to abide
by these:
I will maintain at least 80% of attendance as a student.
I am allowed to work 40 hours per fortnight under subclass 500 as a student.
I need to maintain 50% grades throughout the study program.
I need to maintain overseas student health coverage (OHSC).
I should notify immediately to university/ DHA of any changes in circumstance, such as address
or status, within 7 days
I cannot change the university within 6 months of enrollment.
The study of psychology will enable me to contribute fresh ideas and approaches to my nation of
India. My drive to accomplish and do well, paired with my perseverance, will certainly help me
shine as a student and alumnus.
Yours truly,
Maaz Ahmad
