There are three main ways to create a new style based on your formatted text:
1. Make sure the Styles toolbar is visible (View > Toolbars > Styles).
2. Right-click on an existing style in the toolbar that is similar to the one you
want to create.
3. Select New Style from the context menu.
4. In the Create Style dialog box, enter a descriptive name for your new
style.
5. (Optional) Choose a style to base on if you want your new style to inherit
formatting from an existing one.
6. Click OK to create the new style.

1. What is TOC?
TOC means Table of Contents. It is the list in documents consisting of
heading and subheadings of a book or document. It is a necessary index,
which acts as a map for the users. It allows users to find information about
the document using chapter names and page numbers.
2. List any two characteristics of a good TOC.
A good Table Of Contents has the following characteristics.
● It should be easy to read and simple to use.
● It should be organized and formatted properly.
● It should be accurate and easily accessible.
● It should be given after the title and copyright page.
3. How can you edit the existing TOC?
An existing Table Of Contents can be edited by right clicking on TOC and
from the context menu appear, choose Edit Index/Table option. The
Insert/Table window opens where one can edit the required options of
TOC.

The five tabs present in Insert Index/Table Dialog box are

Index/Table Tab: The Index/Table Tab of TOC contains the elements of
TOC like Title, layouts etc. one can customize all these from this tab.
Entries Tab: The number of Elements or levels of TOC can be customized
from this Tab. This tab can also be used to customize Character styles,
Entries, Hyperlinks etc.
Styles Tab is used to customize the TOC styles or paragraph styles etc.
Columns Tab can be useful in making TOC into columns as desired. It can
also be used to set or adjust the Width and spacing of TOC.
Background Tab: one can customize the background or background color
of TOC from the background tab. Background color can be changed by
selecting color from AS dropdown and if one wants to change background
one can select Graphic from AS dropdown of background tab.
