PCB DESIGN - LAYOUT DESIGN

LAB SESSION 1

PCB DESIGN USING PROTEUS

PART 1: SCHEMATIC DESIGN AND CIRCUIT S

Prepared by:

Industrial Electronic Department, FKEKK

Semester 3 2023/2024
OBJECTIVE:
1. Design PCB layout.
2. Practice the right techniques in handling materials, tools and equipments during
PCB design.

COMPONENTS / EQUIPMENTS:
NO COMPONENTS NUMBER QUANTITY
1. IC Timer 555 IC - 2 1
2. IC CMOS 4017 IC - 1 1
3. IC Socket 8 Ways - 1
4. IC Socket 16 Ways - 1
5. Resistor 4.7 Ω R1 & R2 2
6. Resistor 1 kΩ R3 & R4 2
7. Resistor 390 kΩ R5 1
8. Variable Resistor 500 kΩ to 2 MΩ VR1 1
9. LED Blue (or any color) 5mm L0 – L3 4
10. LED Orange (or any color) 5mm L4 – L7 4
11. Electrolytic Capacitor 10 µF, 25 V C2 1
12. Capacitor ceramic 10 nF C1 1
13. PCB Board 7.5 x 7.5 cm 1
14. Proteus Software 8.10

THEORY:
The PCB design process combines component placement and routing to define
electrical connectivity on a manufactured circuit board. This is the list of basic of PCB
layout and design steps:
• Create the Schematic
• Create and Setup a PCB
• Link the Schematic to the PCB
• Define the Board Size and Layer Stack
• Place Components
• Route Traces
• Verify Circuit Board Layout
• Add Labels and Identifiers

PROCEDURE:
1. Use schematic circuit as shown in Figure 1 in workshop 4.
2. Design a layout and route all the connections manually following the PCB
design guidelines. Use a single layer board.
3. Save and record all results.
