MPLAB PM3 USB Device Driver Installation Página 1 de 3

MPLAB IDE
MPLAB PM3 USB Device Driver
First Time Installation
For Windows 2000 and XP

To use MPLAB PM3 with USB communications, the following steps MUST be
taken in order to properly install the device drivers.

Before You Begin

MPLAB PM3 should NOT be plugged
into a USB port, powered, or have a
device plugged into it at this time.

If you have already plugged

MPLAB PM3 into the USB port
and the "Found New Hardware
Wizard" has popped up, either (1)
click Cancel on that dialog,
unplug the MPLAB PM3 and
continue with these instructions,
or (2) follow the instructions
specified in
Driversnn\ddpm3nn.htm of the
MPLAB IDE installation
directory, where nn is either 2k or
xp.

If you have already plugged

MPLAB PM3 into the USB port
and used the "Found New
Hardware Wizard" to install
drivers automatically, you have
installed the wrong drivers.
Follow the instructions specified
in
Utilities\MPUsbClean\clnpm3.htm
of the MPLAB IDE installation
directory.

STEP 1
Go to the Utitilites subdirectory in the
MPLAB IDE installation directory and
launch the preinstaller/updater
"MPUsbIRU.exe" from the MPUsbIRU
folder or click below:

Launch Preinstaller/Updater

The preinstaller/updater utility will open.

Carefully read the instructions displayed

in the top portion of the dialog before
proceeding.

STEP 2
Select the tool(s) for which you wish to
install device drivers under "Tool Device
Drivers to Pre-Install or Update".

Select the radio button "Pre-install" under

"Action".

Click the Pre-Install button.

Note: The status log will show you the

status of the pre-install. If you have
problems, you may want to save this
information to a file so you may refer to it
when you contact customer support. Click
the Save Log button at the end of the pre-
install.

STEP 3
During the pre-install, a dialog will pop
up stating, "The software you are
installing for this hardware: Microchip
Development Tool has not passed
Windows Logo testing..." In this case,
Microchip Development Tool will be
"Microchip MPLAB PM3 Firmware
Client". Click "Continue Anyway".

Click the Close button on the

preinstaller/updater utility when done.

STEP 4
Connect MPLAB PM3 to the PC with a
USB cable. Then, connect the power
supply and turn on the unit. Do not insert
a device into any sockets modules on
MPLAB PM3 at this time.

If you are using an external USB HUB,

make sure it has a power supply and is
powered or MPLAB PM3 will not work.

plugged in, a small dialog box will appear
indicating that the system has found a
new hardware device. There may also be
a dialog box that informs the user that a
device data base is being built or updated.

After these dialogs appear, the Found

New Hardware Wizard dialog box is
displayed. Select "Install the software
automatically (Recommended)" and click
"Next" to continue the installation.

STEP 6
During the install, a dialog will pop up
stating, "The software you are installing
for this hardware: Microchip
Development Tool has not passed
Windows Logo testing..." In this case,
Microchip Development Tool will be
"Microchip MPLAB PM3 Firmware
Client". Click "Continue Anyway". (See
STEP 3 for a picture of this dialog.)

The "Completing the Found New

Hardware Wizard" will appear once the
Microchip MPLAB PM3 Firmware Client
has been installed. Click "Finish" to end
the USB installation.

STEP 7

the Device Manager*, USB Controllers
section.
