I. OBJECTIVES
A. Content Standards •The learner demonstrates an understanding of South and West Asian literature as an
expression of philosophical and religious beliefs; information flow in various text types;
reality, fantasy, and opinion in listening and viewing materials; word decoding strategies; and
use of information sources, active/passive, constructions direct/reported speech, perfect
tenses, and logical connectors in journalistic writing.
B. Performance Standard • The learner transfers learning by composing a variety of journalistic texts, the contents of
which may be used in composing and delivering a memorized oral speech featuring the use
of properly acknowledged information sources, grammatical signals for opinion-making,
persuasion, and emphasis, and appropriate prosodic features, stance, and behavior.
C. Objectives MELC- Delivering A Self-Composed Speech

At the end of 45 minutes, the students should be able to:

• Demonstrate understanding of the text listened to by applying the L.I.S.T.E.N strategy;


• Listen to critique a speech performance by giving comments, feedback, & suggestions; and
• Express thoughts and opinions about the text listened to through sharing.

- The students will identify the idiom used in the sentence, give its meaning, and provide their
examples afterward.

B. Lesson Proper 1. Before the Lesson

a. Recall
Flashback Thursday!
- The students will recall what is the lesson yesterday by sharing their insights.

b. Motivation
The Telephone is Broken!
- The class will be divided into four groups; each group will have two representative who will
receive and send the message to his or her groupmates. The first person in the line or circle
whispers a word or phrase into the ear of the person standing in front of them. The first group
to give the correct phrase will be declared as the winner.

Phrases for each group


Group 1 - fictitious characters.
Group 2 - climate crisis
Group 3 – unprecedented rates
Group 4 – be vilified

- The assigned student will give the background of the speaker through reporting.

Leonardo Wilhelm DiCaprio was born November 11,


1974. He is an American actor and film producer. He is
also known for his work in biographical and period films,
he is the recipient of numerous accolades including an
Academy Award, a British Academy Film Award, and
three Golden Globe Awards.

One of the world’s biggest intergovernmental


organizations, the United Nations, invited Leonardo
DiCaprio to the 2014 Climate Summit. Not only did he
make a powerful opening speech, he was also
appointed the UN’s Messenger of Peace for Climate by then Secretary-General, Ban Ki-
moon, for his many climate activism efforts.
