I. OBJECTIVES
Content Standards The learners demonstrate an understanding of scientific ways of acquiring knowledge and
solving problems.
Performance Standards Perform in groups in guided investigations involving community-based problems using locally
available materials.
Learning Competency Describe the components of a scientific investigation;
Specific Objectives At the end of the lesson, students should be able to:
identify the steps of the scientific method; and
relate the scientific method to daily life.

A. GREETINGS
Good morning, Class! How are you today?
Alright, that’s great! I hope everyone are feeling good today Good morning, ma’am!
We are good today,
Ma’am!

That’s great! God is good we are all healthy today.

B. PRAYER
Okay if that so, let us first seek the guidance of our Almighty God.
AMEN.
(Student leads the prayer)

C. CHECKING OF ATTENDANCE
Before settling down, kindly arrange your chairs and pick up those
pieces of paper and plastic under your chairs. (Students says present)
Please say present when your name will be called.

D. DELIVERY OF CLASS POLICIES

Before we proceed to our formal discussion, I just want you to
know our classroom rules especially during discussion. And these
are the ff;

Review the previous Class, last meeting we talked about the Science Processes and

Is there anyone who can recall our topic last time?

any aspiring scientist.
Presenting the lesson Now, Class! our topic for today is all about the Scientific
Method.
What comes to your mind when you hear the word Scientific
Method? Is anyone from the group?

Ma’am, it is all about

researching something.

aquarium fish died.
Anthony then made observations and gathered information
about the incident, and learned that the helper has put
some ice into the aquarium. From this information, Anthony
hypothesized
that it must have been due to the sudden change in
temperature of the water because of the ice cubes. Anthony
then came up with a method to test his hypothesis. He
conducted an
experiment. Then, with the pieces of evidence from his
experiment, he was able to draw a
conclusion
that the death of the fish was in fact due to the sudden
change in temperature of the water following the addition of
the ice cubes. His hypothesis was correct.
Discussing the new If we say the major components of the SCIENTIFIC
concepts and practicing METHOD, these are its definitions; Components of
new skills #2 Scientific Method

a. Research Problem-
this involves
observations. It uses
your five senses; sight,
smell, taste, hearing
and touch.

b. Hypothesis
- a possible solution to
a problem of a possible
explanation of a
phenomenon. - an
educated guess.

c. Method for testing

hypothesis
/Experiment
- an activity specially
designed to test if
a hypothesis is right or
wrong.

d. Conclusion
based on evidence- a
final decision or
judgement formed
after a period of careful
thought or research

Developing Read carefully the given situation below, then answer the
mastery/leads to questions that follow:
formative assessment Yunna’s Garden
Yunna loves plants. She collects a variety of plants
especially ones that bear flowers. If
her plants are healthy and green, she’s happy.
One day, she visited
her grandmother’s house and saw a whole plot of land filled
with
flower-bearing plants. She was ecstatic! She saw much more
colorful and larger flowers than the ones in her garden.
The leaves also appear crisper and much greener. She saw
how dark the soil is and noticed bits of what looked0 like
dried cow manure in it. It is completely differentfrom her
reddish-brown soil at home. Then, a realization sunk in. Her
plants at home are not as healthy as she originally thought!

Answer the following questions:

1. What is the research problem?
2. What is your hypothesis?
3. How would you prove your hypothesis?
Present your experiment plan through diagrams/illustrations
with labels.
(This activity may also be done by group so that the students
can present their answers to the class in a manila paper.
Compare different answers and facilitate the class to come
up with the best experiment plan for the investigation.
