4. A point P divides the line AB shown below internally in the ratio 2:3. By construction,
find the position P and measure AP. (3 marks)

5. A bus started from rest and accelerated to a speed of 60km/h as it passed a billboard. A
car moving in the same direction at a speed of 100km/h passed the billboard 45 minutes
later. Calculate how far from the billboard the car caught up with the bus. (4 marks)

6. From a window 25 metres above a street, the angle of elevation of the top of a wall on
the opposite side of the street is 15°. If the angle of depression of the base of the wall
from the window is 35°, find the height of the wall, to the nearest whole number.

11. A quadrilateral ABCD has coordinates A(5, 5), B(4, 2), C(0, 0) and D(2, 4).
Find, by construction, the coordinates of the image A`B`C`D` under enlargement scale

what time of day did Bracy complete the race? (2 marks)

17. Four wooden pegs P1, P2, P3 and P4 are fixed on a level round such that P2 is 24m from
P1 on a bearing of N65°E. P4 is 28m on a bearing of S63°E from P1. P3 is due east of P4
and on a bearing of S45°E from P2.
Using a scale of 1cm to represent 4m;
(a) Show the relative positions of the four pegs. (6 marks)

Using your scale drawing, determine:


(b) the compass bearing of
(i) P1 from P3 (1 mark)

(ii) P2 from P4 (1 mark)

c) the distance

18. A trader purchases three 50kg bags of sugar on wholesale and re-packages it in 2kg, 1kg
and ½kg packets to be sold in retail. The trader does the re-packaging in a ratio 6:3:1
respectively. He makes a profit of sh. 15 for every 2kg packet, sh. 10 for every 1kg
packet and sh. 8 for every ½kg packet.

(a) Determine;

(i) The number of packets the trader made for each type of packet. (4 marks)

(ii) The selling price of each type of packet if the wholesale price of a 50kg bag of
sugar is sh. 4000 (3 marks)

(b) Determine his percentage profit after the sale of all the packets of sugar. (3marks)

19. Use a ruler and a pair of compasses only in this question.

(a) Construct a parallelogram ABCD in which AB = 5cm, BC= 6cm and angle ADC =
127½°. (5 marks)

(b) On the parallelogram ABCD constructed in (a) above, drop a perpendicular from C
to meet AD produced at T. (1 mark)

(c) Measure:
(i) diagonal AC. (1 mark)

(ii) the height CT. (1 mark)

(d) Determine the area of the parallelogram ABCD. (2 marks)

20. In a medical examination, 2 marks are awarded for every correct answer while 1 mark is
deducted for every wrong answer. The examination has 60 questions.
(a) Determine;
(i) the maximum possible score of the examination (1 mark)

(ii) the minimum possible score of the examination (1 mark)

(b) Hanna scores 87 marks in the examination. Determine how many questions she
scores correctly, if she attempted all the question. (3 marks)

(c) If Otieno has 48 correct and 12 wrong answers, calculate his percentage score in the
examination? (3marks)

(d) The exam policy requires that half mark should be deducted for every question left
unanswered. Mwanisa gets 30 answers correct and 16 wrong. The rest of the
questions are left unanswered. How many marks does she get in the examination?

21. The fare charged by a certain luxury taxi in Nairobi consists of a fixed standing charge
and an amount which depends on the number of minutes travelled, to the nearest half-
minute. The table below shows the amount payable by a passenger for different number
of minutes travelled.

(ii) The difference in amount charged for t = 2.5 minutes and t= 6.0 minutes
travelled (2 marks)

(c) Calculate the fare paid by a passenger who travelled for 10 minutes. (3 marks)

22. Square tiles were laid in a rectangular floor measuring 12m by 21.6m.
Calculate;
(a) the side of a tile, in metres, that will give greatest area of the tile. (3 marks)

(b) the greatest area of the tile in m2. (2 marks)

(c) the number of tiles used. (2 marks)

(d) One tile costs Ksh 120 and the tiler charges Ksh 50 to lay one tile.
Calculate the total expense on buying and laying the tiles. (3 marks)

23. A Modern Coast bus departs from Mombasa at 1545h Sunday, and travels to Kampala via
Nairobi, Nakuru, Eldoret and Malaba towns. The bus arrives in Nairobi 7½ hours after
leaving Mombasa. The bus departs from Nairobi at 0030h and arrives in Nakuru 3 hours
later, where it stops for 25 minutes to pick passengers. From here, the bus does not stop
until it arrives in Eldoret at 0920h and stops for 25 minutes to refuel. The bus then
maintains an average speed of 80 km/h between Eldoret and Malaba, a distance of 128
km. In Malaba, the bus stops for 1 hour for customs clearance before taking another 4
hours 23 minutes to arrive in Kampala.
(a) Determine the day and time, in 12-hour clock system, the bus arrives in:
(i) Nairobi (2 marks)

(ii) Nakuru (2 marks)

(b) How long does the bus take from Nakuru to Eldoret? (2 marks)

(c) Determine the time, in 24-hour clock system, the bus:


(i) departs from Malaba (3 marks)
