[iv] It becomes difficult to cook food in open vessels at high altitudes. Explain. [2]
[v] Equal masses of water and copper are provided with equal quantities of heat. The rise [2]
in temperature of copper is 10 times of that of water. (a) find the ratio of their specific
heat capacities. (b) What should be the ratio of their masses for them to have equal
thermal capacities?

Question 4
[i] A force ‘F’ is applied parallel to the inclined plane to pull the [3]
body from ‘A’ to ‘B’. Find:
(a) work done by ‘F.
(b) work done by ‘F’ against gravity.
(c) account for the difference in the values in (b) and (c).

[ii] A block and tackle system has a V.R.=5. Considering convenience of direction, how [3]
many pulleys are there in its upper block? What is the maximum load that can be lifted
by an effort of 100N, if the efficiency is 80%?
[iii] (a) A meter scale weighing 200gf stays horizontal when suspended at the 70cm mark. [4]
find the minimum weight to keep it in rotational equilibrium if it is pivoted at the 50cm
mark.
(b) If the mass of body increases 25 times, what should be the change in its velocity, for
its kinetic energy to remain same.

(b) How is it dependent on the wavelength of light?
(c) Which colour gets scattered the least?
[ii] A monochromatic ray of light passes through an equiangular prism (µ=1.5) placed in the [3]
minimum deviation position. Draw a neat diagram to show the path of light as it passes
through the prism. Mark the values of angle of incidence and angle of deviation.
[iii] Answer the following questions based on the ray diagram [4]
shown alongside. The critical angle of the prism material is 420.

[i] Refer to the images shown below and answer the questions. [3]

(a) Which drum will produce a louder sound? Justify.


(b) A bucket kept under running tap is getting filled with water. In which case will the
sound produced be of high pitch?

[ii] A man standing at a certain distance from a cliff fires 5 rounds from a pistol in 2s at [3]
regular time intervals. He noticed that the echo of the first gunshot coincided with the
third gun shot. If the speed of sound in air is 340ms-1, find the distance of the man from
the cliff.
[iii] There are three vessels A, B, and C. A contains 500g water at 800C and B contains [4]
240g water at 300C. Vessel C can hold maximum ‘x’g of water. When C is filled with
water from A and then it is emptied into B, the resulting temperature in B is 500C. Find
the value of ‘x’.
Now, C is filled with water from B and the water is transferred into A. What would be the
final temperature of water in A?

[i] A person is playing a guitar. How would the sound produced by it change if: - [3]
(a) A thicker wire is plucked.

[i] Define internal resistance of a cell. Give two ways of ensuring that a cell has a low [3]
internal resistance.
[ii] Define specific resistance. State its S.I. unit. How would the specific resistance of a wire [3]
change if its thickness is doubled?
[iii] A cell of E.M.F. 3.3V and internal resistance 0.5Ω is [4]
connected to three resistors of resistance 2Ω, 3Ω and
5Ω as shown in the diagram.
Calculate the reading of ammeter and voltmeter when
the:
(a) key is open.
(b) key is closed.
Question 9
[i] An electric toaster is operated for 2 hours on a 110V circuit. It draws a current of 8A. [3]
How much energy is consumed by it in S.I. unit? If the rate of electrical energy is ₹2.50
per kWh find the cost operating the toaster for 2 hours.

[ii] An atomic nucleus A is composed of 84 protons and 128 neutrons. [3]


(a) The nucleus A emits an alpha particle and is transformed into nucleus B. What is the
composition of B?
(b) The nucleus B emits a beta particle and is transformed into a nucleus C. What is the
composition of C?
(c) What change will take place in the composition of nucleus C, if it emits γ radiation.
