Forces-Vectors-Worksheet 1-MS
Weight(due to gravity) W
acting at an objects Centre of Gravity
Tension(stretching)or Compression(squashing)
There are also forces from Electric, Magnetic and Nuclear sources.
Forces are VECTORS and so their direction is important when adding them to find the
Resultant Force acting on a body.
When these forces are in BALANCE or EQUILIBRIUM they add to zero and the object will
NOT ACCELERATE it will stay either stationary or move at a constant velocity.
If they do not add up to zero the object will accelerate in the direction of the resultant force.
Equilibrium means the Resultant Force =Zero
Adding Forces (as vectors)
Add the following forces acting on these bodies. Show the resultant as a Force vector.
1.
10N 20N
resultant= 10N
2.
10N 5N
resultant= 5N
3.
10N 15N
resultant= 0N

4.
12N 4N

6. 3N
7N 7N
resultant= 5N

8.
8N 12N
7N resultant= 5N
9.
resultant= 2000N
10.
Weight = 750N;
resultant= 40N
Drawing Force diagrams
Draw the vectors representing all of the forces acting on the objects shown in the diagram.
Make the length of each vector represent the size of the force acting.
