A QR code (Quick Response code) is a type of two-dimensional barcode that can store

information in a matrix of black squares arranged on a white background. Unlike

traditional barcodes, which are one-dimensional and store information only in the
form of horizontal lines, QR codes can store a much larger amount of data in a
compact space.

### Key Features of QR Codes:

1. **Data Capacity**: QR codes can hold various types of information, including
text, URLs, contact information, Wi-Fi credentials, and more. Depending on the
version and error correction level, a QR code can store up to 7,089 numeric
characters or 4,296 alphanumeric characters.

2. **Fast Scanning**: QR codes are designed to be scanned quickly and accurately by

a QR code reader or smartphone camera, making them highly efficient for data
retrieval.

3. **Error Correction**: QR codes have built-in error correction, which allows them
to be read even if part of the code is damaged or obscured. This is done using
Reed-Solomon error correction algorithms.

4. **Versatility**: QR codes can be used in a wide range of applications, including

product tracking, marketing, ticketing, and contactless payment systems. They can
be printed on physical surfaces, displayed on digital screens, or even embedded in
documents.

5. **Ease of Use**: Generating and scanning QR codes is easy. Many online tools
allow you to create QR codes for free, and most modern smartphones come with built-
in QR code readers in their camera apps.

### Common Uses of QR Codes:

- **Marketing**: QR codes are often used in advertising to link users to websites,
promotional content, or social media pages.
- **Contact Information**: They can store business card information (vCards),
allowing people to quickly save contact details by scanning the code.
- **Payments**: In mobile payment systems, QR codes are used to facilitate
transactions. A user scans the QR code to make payments or receive money.
- **Event Ticketing**: QR codes can be used on event tickets for easy check-in and
verification.
- **Product Information**: Scanning a QR code on product packaging can provide
users with detailed information, such as nutritional facts or user manuals.
- **Wi-Fi Access**: QR codes can be used to automatically connect a device to a Wi-
Fi network without entering a password manually.

### Example:
If you see a QR code on a poster, you can scan it with your smartphone's camera.
The QR code might take you directly to a website related to the event or product
advertised on the poster.

### How to Create and Read a QR Code:

- **Creating a QR Code**: You can use online generators (like QRCode Monkey,
QRStuff, etc.) to create QR codes. Simply input the data you want to encode, choose
your design preferences, and generate the QR code.
- **Reading a QR Code**: Most smartphones have built-in QR code readers in their
cameras. You just need to point your camera at the QR code, and it will
automatically recognize and process the information.

In summary, QR codes are a versatile and efficient way to store and share
information in a format that is quickly accessible by digital devices.
