Topic 1: Talking about your free time/ leisure time.

In my spare time, I often watching television. I enjoy watching cartoons on

Saturday evenings and educational programs on Sunday mornings. I also watch
television during the week after I have finished all my homework. In the evening,
I especially to watch movies and situation comedies. Watching television is not the
only activity that I do in my spare time. My other favorite activity is going
shopping with my friends. However, when I have spare time, I spend more time
watching television than any other activities. Watching television can help me not
only relax but also build me a huge knowledge of the modern world.
Topic 2: Talking about the life in the countryside/ in the city
I think life in the countryside has many good points. Firstly, people are friendly
to each other. They are willing to help whenever someone gets into trouble. They
are so outgoing that we can make friends with them easily. Secondly, life in the
countryside is peaceful and simple. There aren’t many vehicles moving on the
road as in the city. Thirdly, food is obviously fresher and cheaper. We can eat
without worrying too much about food’s safety because vegetables are grown
naturally. Finally, traditional activities are very interesting to take part in. In each
region, there are its own activities attracting visitors. For these reasons, the
countryside is the ideal place for me to live.

3. Talking about an ethnic group in Viet Nam

The Kinh has the largest population in our country, about 86 million people
living everywhere in the country, from the North to the South. And also, their
kinds of food are varied from the North to the South too. The Kinh live by farming.
They grow rice in the fields or breed on the farms. Their traditional costume is "ao
dai". It has been recognized as the cultural heritage by UNESCO and it has also
become the statue for Vietnamese women. Every year, the Kinh hold a lot of
festivals and ceremonies such as Tet holiday, Mid-Autumn festival, etc.

4. Talking about your family/ country traditions and customs

In my family, there are many customs and traditions passed down from old
generation to new generation. First, all members of my family must use bowls and
chopsticks. I like this custom because it brings convenience between each family
member. Second, on the weekend, our family always have a trip to our hometown,
where my grandparents live. We visit our grandparents and stay there until
Sunday afternoon. Another tradition of my family is that meals must be eaten
together. We gather around the table and eat with our family. I have no problem
with all those above mentioned customs and traditions. I feel so happy to be a part
of this wonderful family.

5. Talking about traditional festival in Viet Nam

Tet is one of the most important festival in Viet Nam. It’s held every year at the
end of January or early February. Some weeks before Tet, Vietnamese clean their
houses and paint their wall. They buy peach blossoms. Kumquat, flowers to
decorate their houses. New clothes are bought on the occasion. One or two days
before Tet, people make Chung cake - the traditional food, sticky rice, spring rolls
and other special food. On the New Year, every family cook a special meals and
prepare five fruit tray to worship their ancestors to pray for a better year. On the
first day of New Year, people go out. Children receive lucky money wrapped in
red envelop. Some one go to the pagoda. Some other visit their relatives and
family. I love TET so much because it is time for all members of my family gather
to chat or have meals together.

7. Talking about a legend/ folk tale/ fairy tale/ fable

The folk tale I like best is The Starfruit Tree. It is a folk tale. The main
characters are two brothers and the eagle. Once upon a time, there was a rich
man living in a village. When he died, he left his two sons all his fortune.
However, the elder brother is very greedy, he took all value things and gave his
younger brother only a starfruit tree. The younger always took care of the tree, he
watered it every day with the hope that it would give him a lot of fruits so that he
could earn some money by selling them. One day, when the fruits of the tree
could be sold, there was a eagle came and ate the fruit. The younger brother
begged the eagle not to. The eagle promised to repay him on its back to an island
of gold. There, he filled the bag with gold. When he got home he was rich. The
elder brother offered to swap his fortune for his brother's tree. Then, the eagle
helped the elder brother take gold. As the eagle was flying back, the load was too
heavy. The eagle got tired and dropped the elder brother into the sea. I like it
because it bring a good lesson. It is not to greedy like the elder brother.
