Chapter 2 Project Case
Users, who want to put an automatic supervision of an entire process procedure into practice in the
whole DCS application system, should not only prepare necessary DCS hardware but also connect
the hardware to DCS supervision software. This operation of connection is finished by project
configuration.
This project is associated with actual field physics signal and displayed on running screen of OPS by
graphical configuration. Users can directly monitor the process parameter on site, as well as print
process data regularly to analysis and view. Control strategy configuration is used to finish the process
control which will be running on FCS. Similarly, the operation of supervision can be executed by
control panel in the screen of OPS. Therefore, an accurate, complete and visual project configuration
will directly affect the realization of an industrial engineering.
Please refer to Chapter 2 of HOLLiAS MACS V6.5 User Manual 1_Software Installation to find the
summarization of MACS and Chapter 2 of HOLLiAS MACS V6.5 User Manual 3_Project Center to
understand the details of each software component.
In this chapter, it will take a simple project for example. How to create a simple and complete project
according to the basic steps is also described in this chapter. What‟s more, it gives a detailed account
of configuration steps accompanied by illustration and description to get a better comprehension and
mastery of implementation person.

Chapter 2 Project Case

In the following simple case, above configuration flow will be separately explained.

2.2 First-phase Preparations

Project configuration is operated in ES. Necessary tools and materials should be provided to system
firstly before project configuration.

2.2.1 Tools
It refers to hardware and software requirements used in project configuration or the deploying
condition of hardware and software in ES. The following case is described according to the
environmental requirement of ES.

Table 2.2-1 Engineer Station Hardware and Software Configuration

Items Engineer Station

CPU Intel Pentium(R) Quad-Core i5 or higher

Application Software Microsoft Office 2003/2007/2010
Open Office

The actual configuration should be equivalent to or higher than the above.

2.2.2 Materials
It is the basic materials of project configuration. Simply speaking, it refers to project database (I/O tags
list), field process control strategy, process graphs and related project system scale.
 Database
Database file is a set of field data and device signal tags offered to DCS for control or
supervision, such as the signal of temperature, pressure, flow, rotate speed, electric current

Chapter 2 Project Case

and voltage. According to the classification and the template database file exported from the
project, organize the database file. Fill in the details of all kinds of signals, including tag name,
tag description, tag type, dimension, measure range limits, alarm limit, sampling period, and
compensate (thermocouple signal) or not, etc.
Database file is the foundation of project configuration and system configuration. The details
are useful for project implementation.
 Control Strategy
In industrial field, each process procedure (or field device) needs corresponding control
strategy. There are variety expressions of control strategy which embodies the scheme
clearly and realizes algorithm conveniently.
 System Hardware Configuration
System hardware configuration includes: system scale configuration (HIS/ES/OPS), I/O
cabinet, I/O module configuration.
 Else
Process graph (paper drawings and CAD chart) and report, etc. are needed.
