EXPLAIN

SUBJECT PRONOUNS

Subject pronouns act as subjects in sentences.

Here are the words used in subject pronouns.

1. I – used by the speaker.


Example: I am Carlo. I am the eldest.
2. He – used to refer to a male.
Example: My dad is Richard. He takes care of us when we are sick.

3. She – used to refer to a female.


Example: My mother’s name is Cora. She loves to cook for us.

4. We – used by the speaker and the others with him or her.


Example: We talk about what happened that day.

5. You – used to refer to the person you are talking to.


Example: I enjoyed Carlo’s show and tell. You must have enjoyed it too.

6. They – used to refer to the ones being talked about.


Example: They love each other so much.

7. It – used to refer to an object or animal.


Example: Carlo’s family has a pet. It plays catch with them.
OBJECT PRONOUNS

Pronouns not only function as subjects in sentences. Sometimes, they act as “catchers” too.
They “catch” the actions from the doers. They answer the questions what or whom. These pronouns are
called object pronouns.

Example:
 Carlo shampooed his dog. His dog wiggled. It wet him real bad. Bath time is fun!
 Carlo showed us a picture of his dog.
 Dad gave it vitamins.

To help you understand the use of object pronouns, study this table.
