Question 8:
An area of square piece of land as shown in a map is 150cm²; find the real
length of this square if the scale of this map was 1: 1000.
150cm2 = sqrt (150) * sqrt (150) = 5 sqrt (6) * 5 sqrt (6)

1:1000
5 sqrt (6) : ?
:. ? = 5 sqrt(6) * 1000 = 12247.4cm

Question 9:
A surveying map was drawn with scale 1:250. The distance between two points A and B was measured on the map and was 29.6cm.
What is the real distance between the two points? If line AB represents a border of a rectangular residential building with width 37.7m.
Calculate the area of the building in real and on the map.
1:250
29.6cm : ABreal
:. ABreal = 29.6 * 250 = 7400cm

Real Area = ABreal * BCreal = 27898000cm2

Scale2 = Areamap / Areareal

(1/250)2 = ?/27898000 = 446.368cm2

Question 10:
Using an old map to get the area of a triangular area, the lengths of the three borders were 17.06 cm, 18.6 cm, and 22.3 cm. measuring
only the first side of the area in the field and was 167.60m, calculate: -
a. The area on the map.
b. The used scale.
c. The true area.
a. Map Area = sqrt(s(s−a) (s−b) (s−c)), where s = (a+b+c)/2
sqrt (28.98(28.98−17.06) (28.98−18.6) (28.98−22.3))
Map Area = 154.7655cm2

b. Scale = Lengthmap / Lengthreal

Scale = 17.06/16760
Scale = 853/838000 = 1:982.4150059
:. Scale = 1:1000

c. Scale2 = Areamap / Areareal

(1/1000)2 = 154.7655cm2 / Areareal
:. True Area = 154765500cm2

Question 11:
The radius of circular area in a national cadastral map is 18 cm. The real ground radius of this circle is 90m. Calculate:
a. The area of this circle on the map in squares inches.
b. The real area of the circle in Egyptian agricultural units.
c. The scale of this cadastral map.
a. Map Area = pi r2
Mariam Mohamed Alkashat 21P0301 Surveying

pi (18/2.54)2 = 157.77 inch2

b. pi (90)2 = 8100pi
8100pi/4200.83 = 6.057588 Feddan
6 Feddan, 1 Kirat, & 9.171112516 Sahm.

c. Scale = Lengthmap / Lengthreal

Scale = 18/9000
:. Scale = 1:500

Question 12:
Determine suitable scale for a project map production having dimensions (1525m * 785m) to be produced in a paper sheet (80cm * 60cm).
Scale = Lengthmap / Lengthreal
Scale1 = 80/152500 = 1:1906.25 = 1:2000
Scale2 = 60/78500 = 1:1308.333 = 1:1500

:. Suitable Scale = 1:2000

Question 13:
Design and draw the following scales. Then show on your scale the opposite distances: -
a- 1:500 (accuracy 0.5m) (8.50m, 11.00m, 16.50m)
b- 1:2500 (accuracy 1m) (65.00m, 117.00m, 134.00m)
a. 1:500 (accuracy 0.5m)
1cm = 500cm
1cm = 5m

No. of Divisions = 5/Accuracy = 5/0.5 = 10

No. of Columns * No. of Rows

=5*2

b. 1:2500 (accuracy 1m)

1cm = 2500cm
1cm = 25m

No. of Divisions = 25/Accuracy = 25/1 = 25

No. of Columns * No. of Rows

=5*5

Question 14:
Mariam Mohamed Alkashat 21P0301 Surveying

In figure, the shown piece of land ABCD was surveyed using scale 1:2500. Calculate its real area in both agricultural units and Hectar:
d. Area ABD = sqrt(s(s−a) (s−b) (s−c)), where s = (a+b+c)/2
sqrt(j19.5(19.5-11.85)(19.5-11.92)(19.5-15.23))
Area = 69.48588026 cm squared
0.00695 m squared

Angle ADB
(11.92)^2 = (11.85)^2 + (15.23)^2 – 2 * 11.85 * 15.23 * cos(ADB)
:. Cos(ADB) = 0.6380062668
:. ADB = 50.35668802
ADB = 50 degrees 21 minutes 24.07687049 seconds

:. BDC = 37 degrees 21 minutes 31.92312951 seconds

Area BCD = ½ * 15.23 * 11.04 * sin(37.88205216)
51.62192822 cm squared
0.00516 m squared

:. Total Area = 0.01211 m squared

Agricultural Area = 0.01211 * 4200.83

50.8720513 Feddans :. 50 Feddans, 20 Kirats, & 22.3015488 Sahms.

Hectare Area = 0.01211 * 10^4

:. 121.1 Hectares.
