The Minister, Federal Capital Territory Administration, Nyesom
Wike, has said his administration has yet to make a decision on how
to expend the ₦5billion palliative fund expected from the Federal
Government.
This is as he noted his administration may consider transportation
and food support while noting that efforts were ongoing to bring
back urban mass transportation to the FCT to reduce commuters’
suffering.
Wike revealed the development to pressmen in Abuja, after a
closed-door meeting with contractors handling several projects in
the FCT.

A Kano State High Court has issued an ex-parte order restraining the
Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), the Code of Conduct
Bureau (CCB) and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related
Offences Commission (ICPC) from interfering in the affairs of the Kano
State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission (PCACC).
The duo of EFCC and CCB had in separate letters to the PCACC inform of
a pending investigation into the affairs of the Kano anti-graft agency,
with the former requesting for the PCACC’s Director of Finance and
Accounts to avail herself with some documents on Monday for interview
while the CCB only requested for some documents to aid its
investigation.
But the Kano State Government, through its Attorney General filed a suit
before the state high court to ask among others for the declaration that
“any act carried out by the Commission (PCACC) and its staff in the
course of discharging their functions under the supervision of or on
behalf of the Attorney-General being the head and supervisor cannot be
subjected to investigation without recourse to him.
The defendants/respondents in the suit are EFCC, CCB and ICPC while
the Kano State Attorney General, the PCACC and Barrister Muhuyi Magaji
Rimingado, the Chairman of PCACC were listed as plaintiffs/applicants.
The judge also ordered for accelerating hearing of the matter by
abridging time within which the defendants may file and serve their
respective court processes in the matter.
He thereafter adjourned the matter to September 25 for hearing of the
originating motion.

The administration of President Bola Tinubu has revealed its eight-


point agenda aimed at “moving the Nigerian economy forward,”
including fighting corruption, protecting the rule of law, and
providing security for Nigerians and businesses.

The Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy,


Wale Edun, listed the items on Monday during an interaction with
journalists at the State House, Abuja, following the inaugural Federal
Executive Council (FEC) meeting.
Recounting the events of the meeting, Edun stated that Tinubu and
the recently inaugurated ministers examined the President’s “eight
priority areas for moving the Nigerian economy forward and for
delivering to Nigerians”.

The items include Food Security, Ending Poverty, and Economic


Growth and Job Creation.
Other areas of focus by the Tinubu administration, according to
Edun, are Access to Capital, “particularly consumer credit”;
Inclusivity in all its dimensions, “particularly as regards youth and
women”; Improving Security – “improving the playing field that
people and particularly companies operate”; Rule of Law; and
Fighting Corruption.

GOMBE State Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya CON has


directed the immediate closure of all ‘Gala Houses’ within the State.
The Secretary to the State Government, Professor Ibrahim Abubakar
Njodi, who announced the directive, said the measure followed
series of complaints from the general public on the incessant
immoral, criminal activities and security breaches being perpetrated
in such night clubs.
The Governor has, consequently, ordered the Nigeria Police, Nigeria
Civil Defence Corps and the Operation Hattara to mobilise their
personnel to effect the directive and ensure strict compliance.
For the avoidance of doubt, the affected Gala Houses are: Jami’a
Gidan Wanka located at Mile 3 Yola Road, Gombe, White House
Theatre (Babban Gida) located at New Mile 3 Yola Road, Gombe;
Gidan Lokaci General Merchant located at Mile 3 Reservoir Road,
Gombe and Farin Gida Entertainment II located at Wuro Karal,
Kalshingi Road, Gombe.
Others are: Gidan Zamani Entertainment New Mile 3, Yola Road,
Tumfure, Gombe; Albarka Entertainment Located at Wuro Karal,
Bypass near Hara Form, Gombe; Gala Houses Located at Kuri Town,
Lubo village and Kurba village all in Yamaltu Deba Local
Government Area.
Also affected are Tauraren Wash located at Trailer Park, Bauchi
Road, Gombe and Gala House located at Bajoga Town in Funakaye
Local Government Area.

The Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare has decried
unacceptable post-operation complications among six patients who
underwent cataract surgeries at the National Eye Centre, Kaduna.
In a statement issued by Tashikalmah Hallah, Special Assistant to
the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare on Media and
External Relations, the Minister, Prof Muhammad Ali Pate explained
that all patients deserve good quality health care in all health
facilities and directed an investigation into the cases.
The Minister added that the Federal government places a high
premium on clinical governance to improve the quality of health
care in Nigeria’s health system.
The panel set up by the Ministry will immediately investigate these
six cases to fully understand the specific incident that led to the
adverse events, understand the systemic causes, and ensure
appropriate actions are taken, following all due processes to ensure
fairness.
The panel will consist of five members, which includes three
consultant ophthalmologists and two representatives from the
Federal Ministry of Health, and headed by an external consultant
ophthalmologist to give it the independence it deserves.

THE Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike has


started to make good his threat of demolishing illegal structures in
the capital as the Federal Capital Territory Administration on
Monday demolished a multimillion-naira duplex located at Plot 226
Cadastral Zone, A02 Wuse 1, Wuse Zone 6 District, for building on an
unapproved plot of land.
Speaking to journalists in Abuja on Monday, the Director,
Department of Development Control, Mukhtar Galadima, claimed
that the building was said to belong to the late Alake of Egba Land,
Oba Oye Lipede, but was taken over by Ibrahim Kamba and Ademu
Teku, who constructed the duplex against all warnings.
He noted that his team had to carry out extensive investigation to
ascertain the original owner of the plot of land, given varying claims
that were being put forth by the parties, adding that the FCTA will
not consider the status of any defaulting developer, once
development rules and regulations are violated.

The Federal Government says it has no intention to borrow from


any local or foreign organisation with its removal of subsidy on
petrol and exchange rate harmonisation.

The Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister for the Economy,


Chief Wale Edun, revealed this at the end of the inaugural Federal
Executive Council meeting on Monday in Abuja.

He said that the benefit of the subsidy removal would be ploughed


back into various sectors aimed at boosting government revenue
and improving the business environment for local and foreign
investment.

Edun said that with the increased revenue from subsidy removal,
various palliatives have been made available to cushion its effect on
a short, medium and long-term basis.

He reiterated the President Bola Tinubu-led administration’s desire


to bring back the economy from the wood it has found itself over
time.
