The Minister, Federal Capital Territory Administration, Nyesom
Wike, has said his administration has yet to make a decision on how
to expend the ₦5billion palliative fund expected from the Federal
Government.
This is as he noted his administration may consider transportation
and food support while noting that efforts were ongoing to bring
back urban mass transportation to the FCT to reduce commuters’
suffering.
Wike revealed the development to pressmen in Abuja, after a
closed-door meeting with contractors handling several projects in
the FCT.

A Kano State High Court has issued an ex-parte order restraining the
Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), the Code of Conduct
Bureau (CCB) and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related
Offences Commission (ICPC) from interfering in the affairs of the Kano
State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission (PCACC).
The duo of EFCC and CCB had in separate letters to the PCACC inform of
a pending investigation into the affairs of the Kano anti-graft agency,
with the former requesting for the PCACC’s Director of Finance and
Accounts to avail herself with some documents on Monday for interview
while the CCB only requested for some documents to aid its
investigation.
But the Kano State Government, through its Attorney General filed a suit
before the state high court to ask among others for the declaration that
“any act carried out by the Commission (PCACC) and its staff in the
course of discharging their functions under the supervision of or on
behalf of the Attorney-General being the head and supervisor cannot be
subjected to investigation without recourse to him.
The defendants/respondents in the suit are EFCC, CCB and ICPC while
the Kano State Attorney General, the PCACC and Barrister Muhuyi Magaji
Rimingado, the Chairman of PCACC were listed as plaintiffs/applicants.
The judge also ordered for accelerating hearing of the matter by
abridging time within which the defendants may file and serve their
respective court processes in the matter.
He thereafter adjourned the matter to September 25 for hearing of the
originating motion.

The Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare has decried
unacceptable post-operation complications among six patients who
underwent cataract surgeries at the National Eye Centre, Kaduna.
In a statement issued by Tashikalmah Hallah, Special Assistant to
the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare on Media and
External Relations, the Minister, Prof Muhammad Ali Pate explained
that all patients deserve good quality health care in all health
facilities and directed an investigation into the cases.
The Minister added that the Federal government places a high
premium on clinical governance to improve the quality of health
care in Nigeria’s health system.
The panel set up by the Ministry will immediately investigate these
six cases to fully understand the specific incident that led to the
adverse events, understand the systemic causes, and ensure
appropriate actions are taken, following all due processes to ensure
fairness.
The panel will consist of five members, which includes three
consultant ophthalmologists and two representatives from the
Federal Ministry of Health, and headed by an external consultant
ophthalmologist to give it the independence it deserves.

Edun said that with the increased revenue from subsidy removal,
various palliatives have been made available to cushion its effect on
a short, medium and long-term basis.
