5
Why Use YouTube?

Since its introduction in 2005, YouTube’s growth

has been really impressive. In 2006, YouTube
was purchased by Google, skyrocketing the
platform into its role as one of the biggest
websites on the internet.

YouTube is so popular that during the start of

the Covid-19 pandemic, when many people
around the world were under orders to stay at
home, they actually had to reduce video quality
for a period of time in order to keep the website
from crashing. It was that much of an overtax on
bandwidth. If your company is not on YouTube,
you’re missing out on a huge (and relatively
inexpensive) marketing opportunity.

As the most popular online video platform

sharing out there, YouTube is accessible to a
huge global audience in over 100 countries. It’s

6
one of the best ways to gain an international
following.

Between 2017 and 2018, viewers engaged with

creators 70 percent more. According to
YouTube, even causal viewers are engaging a lot
more. The platform offers a unique way to
connect with your customers. By creating videos
that your viewers love, you strengthen their
connection to your brand. It is essential to add
YouTube to your social media arsenal.

7
Videos that go viral

There’s no clear cut definition for a viral video,

so it’s reasonable to say that it can be any video
that gains a tremendous amount of popularity
within several days or several weeks. A video
can go viral with the help of YouTube
algorithms, authority websites, and popular
social media platforms.

According to many successful internet

marketing experts, a video becomes viral when
it gets over 4 million views within seven days.
This seems reasonable, but the size of your
niche will also play a huge factor in your video’s
success. In most instances, it will be easy for you
to notice when your video begins to garner
attention from millions of people around the
globe.

8
We will take a close look at some tips on how to
make a YouTube video go viral. It’s critical to
point out that uploading a video does not mean
that it will become the topic of the town. If you
keep this point in mind, you will not get
frustrated when some of your videos fail to get
millions of views.

9
Six Types of Videos for Success on
YouTube

If you take a close look at the most popular

videos on YouTube, you should be able to
recognize a pattern. Certain types of videos
have a better chance of going viral.

Here are some videos that typically gain traction

on YouTube:

● Celebrity Videos – Many people are

fascinated with celebrities. We’ve noticed
that dull celebrity videos are getting tons
of views. In some cases, celebrity gossip
videos seem to do well on YouTube.
● Funny Pet Videos – People enjoy getting a
good laugh these days. This is the main
reason why videos with adorable animals
seem to do pretty well.

10
● Videos Featuring Children – This may be
hard to believe, but child videos have
become a huge hit. These videos show
children being active in games, watching
cartoons, etc.
● Music Videos – You will not have any
trouble with finding millions of music
videos on YouTube. Music fans turn to
YouTube every day to see their favorite
music videos.
● Accidents – It may sound weird, but some
people enjoy seeing videos that show
mishaps and accidents.
● Inappropriate Videos – YouTube is pretty
good at banning videos that have
inappropriate content, but this does not
mean that people don’t enjoy watching
them.

11
Proven strategies to make your Video go
Viral
It’s now time for us to go over the strategies
that will help your video become a big hit on
YouTube.

1. Study Your Niche

As an online marketer, it’s your responsibility to

satisfy the needs of your targeted audience. This
will put your video in place to get their
attention. Creating videos on non-relevant
topics will make it extremely difficult for you to
succeed. It’s important for you to study your
niche. This will help you uncover the popular
subjects in your niche.

2. Study Your Competition

There’s an old saying in business, “You don’t

have to reinvent the wheel of success.” What
does this mean? You can emulate the success of

12
other YouTubers in your niche. What type of
videos are they creating? What are they doing
to make their videos go viral?

If you follow their path, you are bound to hit pay

dirt. Create similar videos, but put a spin on
them. This will help you avoid getting penalized
by YouTube. You can get marketing software to
spy on your competitors. This will improve your
chances of creating a video that will become a
huge hit with your targeted audience.

3. Tell a Compelling Story

A compelling story is vital for videos these days.

Studies show that people are drawn to
compelling stories. Put yourself in the shoes of
your audience. This will make it easier for you to
create a solid story that’s surrounded by
intrigue. How to create a compelling story? You
must come up with a good idea, and then you
should concentrate on developing your story.
Once you have your story, you simply need to
create an exceptional video to highlight it. This

13
will increase your chances of getting a solid
connection with your viewers.

Are you familiar with the AIDA formula? This is

the abbreviation for Attention, Interest, Desire,
and Action. This formula will draw more viewers
to your videos, and it will also keep their
interest alive while they’re watching your video.

4. Create an Exceptional Thumbnail

Contrary to popular belief, thumbnails play a

crucial role in videos. People will see your
thumbnail before clicking on your video. If your
thumbnail fails to strike their curiosity, they will
move on. Chances are you have seen
thumbnails featuring content creators with a
shocked expression on their face. They know
this will entice people to click on their videos.
Make sure your thumbnail is convincing and

14
attractive. This can increase your views. For
example:

Here are some simple pointers for developing

stunning thumbnails:

1. Use a unique title that make a bold

statement
2. Offer a simple solution in your thumbnails
3. Point out the pain problem in the title for
your thumbnails
4. Make sure you use superior color
combination photos
5. Use attractive fonts and colors
6. Don’t forget to add your face to your
thumbnails

15
5. Search for the Right Keywords

How to make a dance video go viral? Before you

upload a video of yourself dancing, you must
add the right keywords to your title and
description.

Take out the time to search for popular

keywords in your niche. You can use the search
browser in YouTube, or you can use a keyword
search tool. Both will uncover popular keywords
that could drive millions of people to your
video. Here is an example of a keyword tool
used for YouTube videos called keywordtool.io:

Using the right keywords will help your video

get a top ranking in YouTube. When popular
keywords are sprinkled in your video’s
description and title, YouTube’s algorithm will
push your video to the first page. This can make
your content go viral.

16
6. Using a Great Title

Your title must stand out. So, use words that will
create curiosity with people. A boring title will
not serve your video well.

7. Create Exceptional Content

Taking heed to this tip will increase your

chances of being the proud owner of a viral
video. Yes, you can shoot your videos with a
Smartphone, but you should go the extra mile.
You should consider getting professional video
shooting equipment.

Top-notch video shooting equipment includes

the following: a professional camera that’s
capable of capturing detailed video, a
microphone, and good lighting equipment.

No one is interested in watching sketchy videos

with poor audio. This is why you must make a
tidy investment into your video production

17
endeavors. It will pay big dividends in the long
run.

8. Use the Correct Tags and Hashtags

Using the right video tags can help you get a

sharp edge over your competition. Many video
content creators are not using this strategy. This
is why they are having a tough time with getting
a significant number of views for their videos.

YouTube gives you enough space to use up to

500 characters, so make certain you choose the
best ones. We pointed out that it’s important
for you to find the most popular keywords in
your niche. You must put them in your tags.

9. Consider Making Shorter Videos

How to make a YouTube video go viral like a

professional YouTuber? You can do this by
making shorter videos. We know this approach
goes against popular belief, but it works
extremely well.
18
We cannot dispute the fact that longer videos
do well on YouTube. However, some people are
not interested in watching long videos. They are
only interested in watching videos that get
straight to the point.

You should create videos that are about five to

ten minutes in length. This gives you enough
time to convey your message without
frustrating your viewers.

10. Share Practical Tips

People enjoy watching videos that share

practical tips. So, you should focus on creating
videos that share awesome tips and hacks. In
return, your viewership will increase. The image
below shows a few examples of helpful videos:

With more views falling in, your video will gain

more momentum on YouTube. This is how a
video becomes viral.

19
11. Leverage Social Media Platforms

How to make a video go viral online free with

ease? You must take advantage of social media
platforms. They get millions of views daily.
Marketing your video on these popular
platforms will put it in place to get tons of
views.

You should create a social media account on the

following sites: Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn,
Instagram and TikTok.

If your video appeals to people, they will share

it with their family and friends. This is an easy
way to help your video gain momentum. Here is
an example of a YouTube video being shared on
social media.

20
12. Explore Facebook

Yes, we touched on social media platforms in

the tip above. However, we feel like it’s vital for
us to discuss the possibilities that Facebook
offers to vloggers and content creators.

Would you like to know how to make a video on

Facebook go viral? Did you know you can create
a Facebook group for your videos? Yes, you can
create a group for your targeted audience. Once
they join, you can upload the links to your
videos. Can you imagine how many views your
videos will get if your group has thousands of
members? This will be a huge game changer.

14. Working with Other YouTubers

How to make a video go viral online for free like

a pro? This may come as a shock, but setting up
a joint venture with other YouTubers can help
your videos get more exposure.
21
Unfortunately, some content creators fail to
think of this. They view other content creators
on YouTube as their competition. This may be
true, but working with others in your niche is
not a bad idea.

Let’s say you see someone in your niche that’s

getting hundreds of thousands of views. If your
approach is right, you may be able to convince
them to tell their subscribers about your video.
This is an easy way to get traffic to your video.

15. Make Videos on Trending Topics

Trending topics will give your videos more

exposure. Your targeted audience will always
make an earnest effort to keep abreast of the
latest news. They want to know more about the
subjects and topics that interest them.

22
As a content creator, your main focus should be
on creating videos on the latest trends taking
place in your niche or business vertical.

How can you find trending topics? Let’s go over

three simple steps that can help you stay on
top of the latest trends.

● Step One – Go to YouTube and Look for

Your Targeted Terms

How to make a video go viral online free within

several days? You can start by searching for a
broad topic, and dig down deep into your niche.
Let’s say you decide to create videos on dieting.
You can type the word “Diet” into the YouTube
search browser. For example:

● Step Two – Click on the Filte

23
Now it’s time for you to click on the filter. Select
the upload date to this week or this particular
month. For instance:

● Step Three – Check out the Videos

You will now see some great videos that will

give you some ideas on creating a video that
stands a great chance of going viral.

16. Get Backlinks

Search engine optimization continues to grow in

popularity as time progresses. You cannot afford
to overlook the power of SEO. This powerful
digital marketing strategy can propel your video
to the first page of YouTube.

Getting links is the key to having success with

search engine optimization. More links will help
your video get more views. This is not rocket
science!

24
If you are not familiar with search engine
optimization strategies, you should work with
an experienced SEO specialist. They know how
to secure valuable backlinks for your video.

17. Reach out to Influencers

Reaching out to influencers is another effective

strategy for putting your video in place to go
viral. Influencers have thousands of loyal
readers. Some have millions of loyal readers.

You can find influencers everywhere.

25
Does YouTube use SEO?

SEO is a process that helps content ‘rank’ higher

in search engines. It’s organic, meaning it’s
different from paid advertising or sponsored
posts; you don’t just slap an SEO sticker on
something and watch the views roll in.

SEO-friendly content ranks highly because it’s

earned its place and is the kind of stuff that
internet users want to view. If the content
chimes with keywords and search terms that
people are typing and then clicking, it’ll rank
higher on search engines like Google.

Like Google, Bing, or any other search engine,

YouTube relies on SEO to help drive the best bits
to the top. While many content creators start by
simply creating, it’s good practice to SEO-proof
your channel to climb up the rankings.

26
How do I improve my YouTube SEO?

There’s a fair bulk of actions you can take to

fortify your channel’s SEO-ness. Here are ten
tips:

1: Double down on your keywords

Search engines use keywords to determine what

viewers are looking for, so you’ve got to nail this
and use a proper keyword explorer, like Ahrefs.
Identify the best way to tackle your keywords
while avoiding competition; for example,
‘Cooking’ will get you nowhere. It’s too broad,
and there’s too much competition. On the other
hand, ‘Cooking Starfruit’ is much more
achievable and specific to your, um,
starfruit-cooking content.

27
2: Rename your video file

This is a tiny fix, but your video file name should

match the keywords. So, if your raw file is called
‘video-sequence-10.mp4’ or whatever, change it
to ‘cooking-starfruit.mp4.’

3: Nail your video’s title

Ensure the title includes your keywords and is

specific. Ideally, it should be under 60 characters
if possible – no less than five words but no
longer than a short sentence. Otherwise, it gets
cut off and looks crummy.

4: Keep the description breezy

The description is helpful for YouTube’s

algorithm – and viewers! – to understand your

28
content. It’s vital for keywords and context, and
you don’t need to use the full 1,000 characters
on offer. The first 150 characters matter most,
as that’s the block of text people see before
expanding the window. From there, you can
flesh it out with more keywords, info, and links
to relevant content.

5: Get those search tags right

These are like your keywords, but for YouTube’s

sake, rather than your viewers’. They help the
algorithm make sense of your videos. To find
search tags, you can use a keyword explorer
such as TubeBuddy, which shows you how well
search tags rank. As a rule, they should be
robust and detailed, covering everything
relevant to the video. The first tag matters most,
so pop in your keywords as your first few tags,
then broaden it out. However, if the tags aren’t
relevant to the content, you might be penalized
for it. So, if you’re not sure, leave it out.

29
6: Make that thumbnail sparkle, baby

This doesn’t directly affect your YouTube SEO

ranking, but a good thumbnail means more
clicks… which means a better ranking! The
thumbnail should be relevant, engaging, and
informative. Check out our guide on how to
make a YouTube thumbnail here.

7: Reshuffle your YouTube Cards

They’re the most effective way of encouraging

viewers to watch more content and subscribe,
so ensure your YouTube cards link to related
videos. That way, you’re creating an internal
ecosystem that neatly ties your content
together, making it easier to understand from a
search engine perspective.

30
8: Playlist your content

While this doesn’t directly influence YouTube

SEO, it shepherds viewers onto other pieces of
content (similar to the YouTube Cards tip.)
Grouping related videos together in playlists
creates that same kind of ecosystem.

9: Pop in a video transcript

YouTube automatically generates transcripts,

but unless you speak the Queen’s English, the
results can be pretty inaccurate. It turns out that
videos containing transcripts improve YouTube
SEO ranking and pull in 16% more viewers than
those that don’t, so hire a typewriting monkey
or find some transcription software like Otter to
do the grunt work.

31
10: Review, review, improve

Check how your videos perform. In particular,

see how much of your content has been found
through organic search – this means people
have discovered you through the search
functionality. If specific keywords keep cropping
up relating to that search, consider updating
your title, keywords, and description to better
match that search terminology and rank even
higher!

What is the best YouTube SEO tool?

There are loads of tools out there, but if you’re

looking to nail the basics and get a good
overview, then Ahrefs, Keyword Tool, and
YTRank are all great. Also, don’t forget the
power of Google; searching your keywords
there and covering them in your description,
title, and tags is something people often
overlook.

32
How are views counted on Youtube ?

A viewer goes on Youtube, lands on your

channel page, clicks on one of your videos, and
watches it for at least 30 seconds. Here is the
exact path that a user goes through to gain
views on Youtube. Gaining viewership on your
music videos requires a great mastery of music
marketing to increase the click-through rate (the
number of people to click on your video out of
the total number of people who see the
thumbnail). Working on stand-out video
thumbnails and catchy titles is therefore,
essential.

Many artists will say that “view and subscriber

counts don’t mean anything”. They’re right, it
doesn’t mean EVERYTHING. But the view count
on Youtube, as well as the number of
subscribers on Youtube are important. They
bring legitimacy to the artist. This is proof that
what they do appeals to people and is

33
interesting to watch. So, make sure to include a
call-to-action and encourage people to
subscribe. But the views on Youtube will above
all, inform the Youtube algorithm of the good
video quality! This is a very good thing, let me
explain why. The goal of Youtube, it is to make
people stay as long as possible on the Youtube
platform. So if the algorithm considers that your
work is liked and makes people stay on the
platform, it will make your video content visible
to more people. In other words, more views
lead to more views.

34
1.2 What is the impact of Youtube likes,
comments, followers, and shares?

When talking about making your Youtube videos

stand out, we can’t only talk about increasing
your views (or click-through rate) with an
eye-catching title and thumbnail. There are
other equally important factors that can have a
considerable effect on the reputation of an
artist’s videos and their youtube channel.

First of all, the retention rate (or watch time) is

key in YouTube marketing. This is the time that
users spend on average in front of your video on
YouTube. This is an indicator that carries a lot of
weight in the algorithm. Logically, this shows the
effectiveness to keep its users as long as
possible on Youtube.

35
It is also important to try to maximize all forms
of “reactions” to your videos, namely likes,
comments and shares. First of all because
engagement pleases the Youtube algorithm, but
also because engagement encourages
engagement. When choosing between a full and
an empty restaurant you will tend to go to the
one that the most amount of people are in
without even looking at the menu. It’s the same
thing if you’re hesitating between watching a
video with 200 views and one with 2-million
views.

Incentivizing shares (directly or indirectly) also

has a strong impact on your overall visibility on
the Youtube app. Because, when someone
shares your video on their Instagram account,
all their followers know about it. So it’s an
interesting leveraging tool.

In terms of the subscriber count (the number of

people subscribed to you) on Youtube, it is more

36
complex. Because a channel with a lot of
subscribers will not necessarily be more
highlighted than a small channel. Because a high
subscriber count does not always mean high
engagement rates, these subscribers will not
necessarily watch new videos. Therefore, the
algorithm won’t feed this to new or existing
users. A perfect example of how not pleasing
the Youtube algorithm could penalize you.

The Youtube algorithm can be both rewarding

and penalizing depending on certain
characteristics of your channel and your videos.
In summary: aim for quantity, without forgetting
about quality!

37
What is the Algorithm?

The YouTube algorithm was created to match

viewers with the videos that they may be
interested in (and to keep them watching). With
over 500 hours of video uploaded each minute,
no team of people would ever be able to do this
manually. YouTube calls it a real-time feedback
loop that tailors videos to each viewer’s
different interests. It’s well known that many
social media platforms use algorithms to
determine what content people see. There are
tons of different algorithms employed by
different platforms – like Facebook’s algorithm,
for example – and YouTube’s is one of the most
efficient.

Many creators think that the YouTube algorithm

is too complicated to understand. While it is
pretty complicated, if you do your research you

38
can find simple ways to work with it to benefit
your channel (and, in turn, your brand).

When you’re trying to work to maximize your

success with the algorithm, don’t get hung up
on what the algorithm likes. The point of the
algorithm is that it aims to reflect what viewers
like. By that logic, if you’re making videos that
people really like, the algorithm will help even
more people find it.

The algorithm has two primary goals: to suggest

videos that suit viewers and to keep viewers
watching more videos. To do this, it focuses on
viewers’ behaviours as well as the success of
videos. The view engagement metric is very
important to the algorithm, it’s why some
brands use Youtube view bots as well.

recommended youtube algorithm traffic

The algorithm suggests videos in the

recommended section

39
The goal of the algorithm is not to curate the
best videos, it’s to identify and match viewers to
the videos that will (hopefully) interest them.
Remember that the algorithm doesn’t only look
at videos, it looks at all users, too. It’s a mixture
of video performance and personalization.

40
Algorithm Focus Areas

You should take note of these key areas that

have been identified as key signals that the
algorithm considers in terms of viewers:

● What viewers are watching: Which videos

viewers actually spend time watching.
● What viewers do not watch: This includes
videos that viewers click and then leave –
and those really damage your
click-through rate.
● How long viewers are watching: The
longer viewers watch, the higher your
click-through rate (and the better!).
● What they like and dislike: This is based
on the feedback from the like and dislike
buttons.

41
● Feedback from the not interested option:
How many viewers click this option has an
impact on your videos.
● Viewers’ demographic and geographic
information: When suggesting videos to
viewers, the algorithm looks at viewers’
particular locations and demographics.
● Viewers’ previously watched videos: If a
viewer has watched videos that are
similar to yours, you have a better chance
of being recommended.
● The past searches of the viewer: Using a
highly searched keyword in your videos is
helpful here, because if many people
have searched that word, your video may
be recommended to many people.
● The frequency of uploads on a channel:
The algorithm recommends content from
active channels.
● How long a video has been online: New
videos will be recommended to
subscribers or viewers with similar
interests.
42
● A video’s rate of growth (speed of
popularity): Videos with a high rate of
growth have a better chance of making it
on the Trending page.
● Video engagement (likes, dislikes,
comments, shares): Engagement shows
interest in your videos and the algorithm
will suggest it to more viewers.
● Impressions: This includes how many
viewers see your video suggested to them
(thumbnails, etc.) – aim to get as many
impressions as possible for the best
results.
● Video thumbnail: we recommend A/B
testing your video thumbnails until you
find a format that works well while
staying authentic. Once you do, we
recommend creating a template and
using YouTube thumbnail makers to
smoothen the process.

43
3 Key Algorithm Areas To Watch

There are certain factors that you can try to

control, and these are the ones to focus on
while using YouTube for your brand. First,
consider the click-through rate of your videos (in
other words, the chances that a viewer will
actually click on your video after seeing it). You
can also work to increase your videos’ watch
times by engaging with the audience. Finally,
encourage viewers to watch more of your
videos in order to gain a following.

Your YouTube Analytics will give you some key

insights into how viewers are interacting with
your channel. Consider these areas and pay
attention to which videos do well on your
channel.

If you have a particular video that does well,

make more like that one. And, if you want to
experiment and try something new, YouTube

44
encourages that too. That way, you can find
what works and keeps viewers coming back for
more.

45
Simple tricks on how to get your videos
seen quickly by viewers

● Search

Search, much like Google’s search engine, will

show you the most relevant results of your
keyword. It’s important to remember that each
viewer will turn up different search results, even
if you enter the exact same query. In order for
your videos to do well in search, you’ll want to
make sure you’ve got a great title, complete
description, and relevant content.

● Title

In YouTube Analytics, use the Traffic Sources

section to find out what words viewers are using
in the search bar to find your channel and
videos. It’s a good idea to consider the top

46
keywords for your title, or at least your
description because they’re already tried and
tested words that have been proven to bring
traffic to your channel. Do this in moderation,
however. You don’t want to be using random
words that aren’t relevant to the topic.

You want to keep your title at a good length. It’s

recommended to use between 50 – 60
characters in your title, as YouTube has
identified that videos with titles in that range of
length do well.

Also, including your company or brand in the

title is a great way to keep your videos
consistent and helps with brand recognition.

title example youtube algorithm viewers. Vogue

keeps its branding consistent with its titles

47
● Description

Our advice for your description is very similar to

the title. In addition to this, think about the
length of your description. Ideally, you should
have 1-2 paragraphs of relevant content. If you
can’t come up with that much, we recommend
relevancy over length.

If you’re just putting your social media or a few

sentences in your descriptions, you’re really
missing out on content that will help you a lot in
the algorithm – don’t skip this step!

By the way – your first sentence is the most

important. It’s the one that viewers see before
they click on your video in search.

48
● Content

Make sure the content of your video is relevant

to the keywords you’re using in the title and
description. You can also do some research
here. Search your keywords and watch some of
the top videos. What can you do to build on
these ideas and make something better? Try to
add something to the topic or make it more
accessible… don’t just regurgitate the content
of the top videos. The goal is to stand out.

Also, keep an eye on what’s trending or other

topics you see that are less popular, but still
relevant. These are great areas to start to
establish your brand with some great content.

Thumbnails are also super important, as they

show the viewer a small snapshot of what your
content is like. It is generally accepted that
thumbnails with a talking head do better
because people are naturally drawn to a talking
head. Also, it is worth noting that viewers will
always want to see exciting content from your

49
videos, so if you are running out of clips or
footage, it is always nice to know that you can
find stock footage or videos online to add a little
more runtime for your video.

● Discovery

In addition to searching for videos, there are a

few different places that viewers can discover
your videos. Here are some tips to make sure
your videos are getting maximum exposure.

● Suggested Videos

Suggested Videos shows viewers a tailored

collection of videos that the algorithm thinks
they would be interested in watching next.
Usually, these videos are related by topic
(potentially another video from the same
channel, or a similar video from a different
channel) or by the viewers’ watch history.

50
● traffic sources youtube analytics
algorithm growth

Traffic Sources can give you important insights

into where your videos do well

In the Traffic Sources section of your YouTube

Analytics, you can see which of your videos have
attracted traffic from the Suggested Videos
section. To make sure your videos continue to
be suggested to viewers, make use of playlists,
cards, links, and end screens in your videos.

● Youtube cards example algorithm

Cards help to keep viewers watching your

channel

Keep in mind that you don’t want to make your

video endings too long, or you risk losing
viewers. You can also group videos together into

51
a series and make challenge or list videos, which
are popular video formats.

● Home

YouTube’s Home page is different for every

viewer. The algorithm selects videos for each
particular user based on two factors: the
performance of the video itself and the search
and watch history of the viewer.

Make sure you’re active on YouTube to be

included on the Home page. The best way to do
this is to keep viewers engaged. Whether
they’re spending a lot of time watching some
short videos or just watching one long video,
the longer viewers are engaged, the better your
videos will do.

52
Another tip for appearing on the Home page –
don’t violate any of YouTube’s policies. Do your
due diligence and make sure you use accurate
and appropriate titles, tags, and thumbnails.

● Trending

YouTube’s Trending section differs depending on

your country. According to YouTube, they aim to
combine popularity with novelty here. While
views are important to gain popularity, there are
many other factors that the algorithm considers
before a video appears on the Trending page.

youtube algorithm trending page viewers

An example of a Trending page (Canada)

If you want your videos to appear on the

Trending page, try to make videos that are super
accessible. If you’re creating great shareable

53
content that is appealing to a large number of
people, you’ll gain new viewers.

The algorithm also looks at your own subscriber

level and the metrics of your particular videos
(including your channel’s growth). So while your
video may not have the most views, if it gains
enough growth, it may appear on the Trending
page.

Creator on the Rise and Artist on the Rise are

sections within the Trending page that feature
creators and artists with strong channel growth.

● Subscriptions And Notifications

Viewers will see videos from the channels they

subscribe to on the Subscriptions page. Gaining
subscribers will help to ensure you’ll have a
more loyal following. Use YouTube Analytics to
check your subscribers’ watch times, as this is a
helpful way to see what works well for your
following.

54
To help promote your videos, YouTube will send
a notification to subscribers and frequent
viewers. The bell icon next to the subscribe
button allows viewers to decide how many
notifications they get, or whether or not they
get them at all.

In order to gain subscribers and frequent

viewers, gently encourage your viewers to tap
the bell – that is, the notification bell – along
with the subscribe button if they like your
videos.

55
Tips For Optimizing Your YouTube Videos
for the Algorithm

● Don’t Use Clickbait

While it’s true you’ll see a higher click-through

rate with outlandish video thumbnails or
misleading titles, viewers may not continue
watching once they realize they’ve fallen prey to
clickbait.

Instead, you want to be keeping your watch

time high, in addition to keeping a high
click-through rate. In the algorithm, neither
stands as successfully on their own as they do
together. So work to create videos that first get
viewers hooked to click on them, and then keep
them watching with engaging content.

56
● Keep Your Content Consistent

You should know your brand’s niche, so stick to

it. Don’t try to go too broad with your content,
or the algorithm will get confused.

If your content is too broad, you may find that

you have only a few certain videos that do well.
What you want to have is a sustainable rate of
growth on your channel, and this can’t happen
until you ensure that all of your videos do well.

For example, viewers looking at your video

about DIY furniture tutorials want to subscribe
to your channel for more DIY furniture tutorials,
they don’t want to subscribe to a channel that is
a hodgepodge of random art, food, and
watersports videos.

57
Once you find what works for your channel,
keep doing that. Stick to your niche in order to
see real success on your channel, not just
fleeting success when your random videos go
viral.

● Use Great Thumbnails

Thumbnails are really important. Along with the

title, they’re often the only thing viewers see
before deciding on choosing your video and
they basically make or break your click-through
rate. Thumbnails are your first impression –
here are some quick tips to make it count:

Use a talking head: People are naturally drawn

to people. A study from Netflix identified that
faces with emotions perform best in attracting
viewers. As humans, we automatically respond
to faces, and we respond to emotional
expressions. So if you’ve got an exciting video,

58
use a really excited shot of the person in the
video.

Use text: But not too much. Choose a keyword

from your video that will stand out, or
something exciting that’s related to the video.
Keep it simple, because your title will explain
more, but do use space in your thumbnail for
text.

Include your logo: This is a surefire way to let

viewers know this is your brand’s video. It also
helps with giving your channel a more cohesive
and aesthetically pleasing overall look.

The logo lets viewers know that these are BBC

New videos at a glance

Another argument in favour of using a face in

your thumbnail – a study by Research Gate
found that users engage much more when
photos include a human face. In fact, users are
38 percent more likely to like the photo and 32

59
percent more likely to comment on the photo if
it includes a human face. This works for most
social media content, so it’s important to keep
in mind.

Including a human face on your thumbnails

helps to convey emotion and make your video
more attractive to viewers

● Write Quality Descriptions

Your video’s description is really important. The

algorithm uses the description to search for
keywords, and using the right ones will help
YouTube surface more of your videos. Your SEO
skills will come in super handy here.

While you do want to use the right keywords,

don’t go overboard. Use clear language and
keep it simple. It’s generally recommended to
use 1-2 short paragraphs that briefly explain the

60
content of your video. You’ll also want to be
using those keywords naturally within the text.

youtube algorithm description example viewers

A great example of a simple but effective

description

● Keep a Schedule

Or at least publish videos often. The algorithm

looks at not only the number of videos you’ve
posted but the frequency of your publishing,
too.

Sticking to an upload schedule can be super

helpful for the consistency of your channel, and
it can help you plan your content better. Check
out your YouTube Analytics page to see what
day and time has been showing you the most
success and try to continue posting then. For
example, if your analytics tell you that your

61
videos do especially well at 12pm on Fridays,
make that your weekly upload slot.

● The Algorithm Rewards Those Who

Engage

Take an hour or so every week and engage with

your audience. Reply to as many comments on
your videos as possible, or even just like them
(commenting is best, though). Being engaged
with your viewers will help you see more
success on your channel, and give you a much
better chance of the algorithm noticing you.
Viewers appreciate a response, and it helps to
build a real connection between them and your
brand.

Additionally, engaging with your viewers is a

great chance to get some valuable feedback to
help your channel. Don’t be afraid to ask!

62
algorithm engagement youtube channel

Asking for feedback in the comments section is

a great way to find out what your viewers like

If you’re seeing too many comments on your

videos and you can’t possibly reply to them all,
consider publishing a video thanking everyone
for their support.

Don’t forget to encourage viewers to engage

with your content by telling them to like your
videos. If you don’t want to include it in the
actual video or it doesn’t fit naturally into your
video, include it in the description. Remember,
the like and dislike feedback helps to inform the
algorithm. Likes can make a difference.

● Increase Watch Time

One of the best ways to increase watch time on

your channel is to encourage viewers to check

63
out your next video. There are a few ways you
can do this. Of course, you can ask your viewers
to check out your channel at the end of the
video, but you should also make use of
YouTube’s features.

Use cards and end cards to promote your other

videos within your videos. You can also arrange
your videos into playlists so that your next video
will be suggested to the viewer.

Your call-to-action, whatever it may be, should

feel natural and inviting. Don’t push too hard or
it will drive viewers away. And, when you find
what works, keep it consistent

64
How To Make Money On YouTube
Without Showing Your Face

There are many different ways to make money

with YouTube. You can monetize your videos by
adding ads, or you could create a paid
subscription channel. You could also use affiliate
marketing to make money from your videos.

In this method, you would promote products or

services that you believe in and receive a
commission for every sale that is made as a
result of your recommendations!

YouTube is also a great way to generate leads for

your business.

You can use it as an educational tool by creating

informative videos about topics related to what
you’re selling and then driving consumers

towards those products through links in the

Why You May Want To Use YouTube

Without Showing Your Face
● There are a variety of reasons why you
may choose to use YouTube without
showing your face on camera.
● Some may feel shy or uncomfortable in
front of the camera, while others might
have something to hide. Whatever the
reason, there are plenty of ways to get
around it!
● Some people use YouTube as a platform
for self-expression and creativity. They
might be artists or musicians who have an
idea they want to share with others
through their videos. Others may just
enjoy making funny content that makes
them laugh when watching it back later
on!

YouTube Channel Ideas Without
Showing Your Face

1. Use a video from another source, such as

Netflix or Hulu. These videos don’t require you
to show your face on camera, and they’re great
for creating new content that people will want
to watch over again! You can also use them if
you’re trying out different ideas before
committing yourself completely.

2. Share some footage of your favorite movie.

This can be a fun way of showing off your skills
as an editor while still keeping things
anonymous! A good example would be a scene
from Jaws where the shark attacks Richard
Dreyfuss’s character and he screams “Shark! Get
outta here!”

67
Share an animated GIF of your favorite cartoon
character. This can be a great way to share some
fun content without having to show your face
on camera! Just make sure it’s not too
distracting for the viewer.

3. Use a picture from an old photo album and

narrate it in your own voice. This is similar to
using a video, but it’s more personal because
you’re talking about something that happened
in your life. It also allows people who are deaf or
hard of hearing to access YouTube content
without subtitles!

4. Record yourself singing or playing an

instrument. This is a great way to showcase your
talents and can be really fun to watch! Just
make sure the audio quality is good so people
can actually hear what you’re doing.

68
5. Make a tutorial on how to do something. For
example, show yourself making a Glitter Glue
Slime Recipe or putting together a String Art
Kit). This is a great way to help other people out
and it doesn’t require you to show your face on
camera!

6. Record a reaction to a current event. This is a

great way to share your thoughts on something
that’s happening in the world without having to
show your face on camera. Just make sure
you’re respectful and don’t say anything too
offensive.

7. Share a story from your life. This can be really

fun because it allows people who are deaf or
hard of hearing to access YouTube content
without subtitles!

8. Make an unboxing video. This is a great way

to showcase your talents and can be really fun
to watch! Just make sure the audio quality is
good so people can actually hear what you’re
doing.

69
8. Do a “haul” video. This is a great way to
showcase your talents and can be really fun to
watch! Just make sure the audio quality is good
so people can actually hear what you’re doing.

9. Hands and pans style food video. This is a

great way to showcase your talents and can be
really fun to watch! Just make sure the audio
quality is good so people can actually hear what
you’re doing.

10. Do a video game tutorial. This is a great way

to help other people out and it doesn’t require
you to show your face on camera!

11. Play a trivia game. This is a great way to

share your thoughts on something that’s
happening in the world without having to show
your face on camera. Just make sure you’re
respectful and don’t say anything too offensive.
70
12. Create a video sharing what you eat in a day.
You can do this by showing the foods you eat
and use your voice to narrate. No faces
necessary!

13. Make a video of your favorites. For example

“top 5 favorite candy bars” or “3 Best Parks in
NYC.” You can narrate your video and share your
favorite things and places without every facing
the camera.

14. Record yourself drawing, doing modern

calligraphy (learn more in our How to Hand
Letter post), painting or coloring! It will be fun
for you, and may help your viewers relieve
stress as they watch you take part in a creative
endeavor.

I like this tool because it’s a free browser

TubeBuddy automatically integrates with
YouTube and assists you with managing your

improve the performance of your content.

You can test:

● tags

● descriptions

The tool helps you figure out which ones work

the best for the exposure and growth of your
channel.
73
Another top benefit of TubeBuddy is the
scheduling feature. You can determine when
you want uploaded videos to get published in
the future.

The scheduling tool works both ways. You can

also set a specific time and date for a video to
be removed from certain playlists on the
channel without having to do it manually.

TubeBuddy tracks your rankings and compares

your analytics to those of your competition on
YouTube as well as in Google searches.

This extension lets you update videos in bulk.

It’s a great option if you have hundreds of
videos and want to update all the descriptions
simultaneously. If you’re planning to promote
one of your videos in the description of all your
other videos, consider this tool. You can also
improve your thumbnail creation process with
TubeBuddy.

Plus, it has options for all different types of
YouTube users:

I like vidIQ because it’s another way to monitor

3. Camtasia

76
Camtasia is a screen recording tool and video
editor. camtasia YouTube tool screen recorder
and video editor . Screen recordings are a great
way to enhance your content. Lots of times,
you’ll be explaining how to do something on
your computer. But you don’t want to record
your screen with a camera or smartphone. It’s
not efficient and looks unprofessional. You’ll
likely have a glare on the screen as well.

Plus, if you’re just explaining how to do

something without showing people, it will be
extremely difficult for them to follow your
instructions.

Camtasia is my favorite tool for screen

recordings. After you record your screen, you
can mark up the videos, make edits, and add
effects. It’s ideal for anyone creating video
tutorials because you can record the movement
of your mouse and show keystrokes as well.

77
Add notes and other annotations such as
highlights, arrows, and captions for people
watching your videos without sound.

A voice narration feature allows you to record

yourself speaking during or after you record the
screen. Camtasia has other audio effects and
even has an option to add music. It’s great for
showcasing presentations and slideshows via
YouTube.

This tool also has a green screen function,

animations, and interactivity features such as
quizzes. Overall, it’s something you should have
in your arsenal of your YouTube tools. Download
Camtasia now.

78
4. Social Blade

Social Blade is another top option for you to

consider. I like it because it tracks different
statistics on YouTube, Instagram, Twitch, and
Twitter. It’s useful for effectively improving your
social media marketing strategy.

Track your own statistics, or look up your

competitors. Here’s a look at some basic
analytics from my YouTube channel on the
Social Blade platform: social blade YouTube
statistics summary example.

As you can see, it shows my subscribers, video

views, and estimated earnings by date.

That just barely scratches the surface of what

this tool offers. You can compare up to three
channels simultaneously. This will give you a
great indication of how you stack up against
competing channels.

Social Blade also has a feature that determines

whether YouTube creators belong to

79

Facebook friends and fans can scroll through

7. Bitly

82
Again, you want to promote your content on as
many marketing channels as possible. To do this
effectively, you’ll need to post links to your
YouTube channel and YouTube videos. But
sometimes, these links can be long, messy, and
unappealing. That’s why I recommend using
Bitly to shorten your links:

How to create a verified YouTube channel
in 4 simple steps

Creating a YouTube channel is easy to do and

completely free. You can create a channel as a
user or a brand. The latter can be managed by a
few people from your team. Here’s how to get
started…

● Step 1: Create a Google account

Since Google owns YouTube, a Google account is

the gateway to any and all activity on the
platform. It lets you create, share, and like
YouTube videos.

If you’ve used Gmail, Google Maps, Google Play,

or any other Google product before, you
probably already have a Google account you can
sign into.

91
Otherwise, creating a new Google account just
takes a minute:

1. Go to youtube.com : In the top right corner,

click “Sign in”

2. Proceed to “Create account”

3. Pick either “For myself” or “To manage my

business”

Fill out your first and last names, your preferred

email (doesn’t have to be company-related) and
a password

4. Verify your email address with a code and

click “Next”

5. Enter your birth date and gender

6. Agree to the terms and conditions

The Google account creation page

92
● Step 2: Create a YouTube channel using
your Google account

Setting up a Google account doesn’t

automatically create a YouTube channel. Hence,
to create your channel on YouTube, follow these
steps:

1. Sign into YouTube with your Google account

on your avatar in the top-right corner of the
screen

2. Click “Create a channel”

3. Name your channel and click “Create

channel”

When you create a new YouTube channel, it acts

as a brand account too—you can leave
comments or likes while signed in as your
channel.

● Step 3: Customize your channel

93
Once your channel is created, it’s time to
customize it and make it truly yours. To do so,
click “Customize Channel,” and you’ll see three
tabs: “Layout,” “Branding” and “Basic info.”

Add information about your channel

In the “Basic info” section, you can edit the

name of your channel and write a description
that will be displayed in the “About” tab. You
can also add links to your website and social
media, and include your email address in the
“Contact info” section.

Upload branding assets

Switch over to the “Branding” tab to add visual

assets that will make your channel recognizable
to your audience. You can upload a channel
icon, channel banner, and channel art to be
used as a video watermark.

94
Customize your layout

Finally, you can customize the layout of your

channel. You can upload a channel trailer that
will be shown to new users as soon as they land
on your channel, as well as a featured video that
will take up the same space (but only show up
for existing subscribers).

You can also break down your channel’s

homepage into various sections, including
popular uploads, past live streams, playlists, and
more.

● Step 4: Create, optimize and publish

videos

After you’ve created and customized your

YouTube channel, it’s time to upload your first
video. From your channel, click “Upload Video”
and pick “Select Files.” While your video is
uploading, you should add descriptions that will
95
make your video more discoverable on YouTube
as well as other search engines.

Here are the elements you can—and

should—customize:

Video title. This is the most important

descriptive element that will make
potential viewers click on the video. Keep
it clear, concise and tailored to your
audience.

your video. You should include links to your
website and social media as well as time stamps
if the video is quite long. While the description
is limited to 1,000 characters, it’s recommended
to keep it short and include the most important
information in the first sentence or two (“above
the fold”) since people click to watch your video,
not read a lot of text.

96
Thumbnail. You can either choose a still
from the video or upload a custom image
that will help you stand out among other
similar videos. In the end, add your video
to a playlist if it’s part of a series. Add
subtitles and tags. Publish your video
either privately or publicly. There’s also an
option to schedule publishing your video
into the future.
