chapter thoroughly. Questions can be asked from any part of the chapter.
A. Tick() the correct option.
1. Which type of device is a CD?
Ans: - Storage device (a)
2. What projects the output from the computer screen to a larger screen?
Ans: - Projector (a)
3. In which of the following is the CPU placed?
Ans: - CPU box(c)
4. Name the components of the computer system that we can touch.
Ans: - Hardware (b)
5. Which of the following is a mouse made to fit on our finger?
Ans: - USB Finger Mouse (a)
6. Which of the following hard drives is a portable storage device with a fingerprint recognition
scanner that keeps data secure?
Ans: - LaCie (a)
7. What are laser printers also known as?
Ans: - non-impact printers (a)

B. Write T' for true and 'F' for false.

1. Mouse is the brain of a computer. -> False
2. Mouse is an internal hardware component of a computer. -> False
3. We cannot touch hardware parts. -> False
4. Keyboard performs all the calculations. -> False
5. Microphone is an input device. -> True

C. Fill in the blanks.

1. A computer displays the results of the processed data through the Output devices.
2. Storage devices are used to store the data.
3. 3D Camera is a real sense device that can measure distances between items.
4. A computer accepts data and instructions from you through input devices.
5. Wireless devices work with the help of Radio frequency.
Section B (Subjective)
A. Short answer type questions:

1. Name any two hardware parts attached inside the CPU box.
Ans:-Motherboard, disk drive
2. Give two examples of output devices.
Ans:- Monitor, Projector
3. Can a mouse and keyboard be wireless?
Ans:- Yes, mouse and keyboard can be wireless
4. What do you mean by a disk drive?
Ans:- A disk drive is an internal hardware component of the computer system that is used
to read and write on storage disks.
5. What does CD-RW stand for?
Ans:- Compact disc Rewritable
6. What is Skylake?
Ans:- Skylake is Intel’s multi-core chip, code-named Skylake boosts graphics and
applications while improving battery life in laptops.

B. Long answer type questions:

1. What is the difference between input and output devices?

Ans:-
Input device Output device
Input devices are device through which a Output devices are device through which a
computer accepts data and instructions. computer display information and result of
computation to user.
Example Keyboard, Mouse Example Monitor , Printer

2. What is the role of the CPU?

Ans:- CPU (Central Processing Unit) is a processor, sometimes called a microprocessor. It is the
brain of the computer that does all the calculations and runs all the programs. It manages all the
operations and carries out the basic instructions that operate a computer.
The three main components of the CPU are:
➢ ALU (Arithmetic Logic Unit): It performs mathematical and logical operations.
➢ CU (Control Unit): It directs all the operations of a processor.
➢ Memory Unit: It stores data and instructions.

3. What is a virtual keyboard?

Ans:- A virtual keyboard is operated by typing on a detectable surface rather than pressing
physical keys. It is a software component because it is not a physical part.
4. What do you mean by ports in a computer system? Write the names of any three types
ports.
Ans:- A port is a slot on the motherboard that is used to connect other components of the
computer, such as a keyboard, mouse, monitor, etc., to the motherboard. There are various types
of ports on the motherboard which are used to connect internal as well as external components of
the computer system. Serial Port, Parallel Port, Ethernet Port, etc. Are the examples of ports.

5. What is SMPS?
Ans:-
➢ Switched Mode Power Supply (SMPS) is a hardware component of the computer used to
control the power supply.
➢ It is also known as the power supply unit of the computer.
➢ It takes the Alternating Current (AC) from a source and converts it into low-voltage Direct
Current (DC) and then supplies it to other parts of the computer system.
➢ It has a switching regulator which controls the output voltage.
➢ It also has an in-built fan to reduce the heat.

EXTRA QUESTIONS

1. Distinguish between the internal and external hardware.

Ans: -
Internal hardware: - Internal hardware components are installed within a CPU cabinet. For Eg. CPU,
RAM, ROM, hard drive, Motherboard, Sound card, Video card, etc.
External hardware: - external hardware are connected to a computer externally. These are also known
as Peripherals. These peripherals can be divided into three categories: Input devices, Output devices and
Storage devices.

2. Describe hardware and software.

Ans: - HARDWARE: The physical components of a computer, which we can touch and feel, are known
as Hardware. It is categorized as Internal and External hardware.
SOFTWARE: Software is a set of programs, which controls the internal operations of a computer. For
example, UNIX, MS Word, etc. It is classified as System software and Application software.

3. Why do you use printers? Explain about the impact and non-impact printers.
Ans: - A printer is an output device that allows you to print the work done on a sheet of paper. Printers
are categorised into impact or non-impact. Impact printers create an image on paper by striking the paper
with a metal pen. Non-impact printers create an image on paper by spraying ink on the paper.

4. What is modem? Explain its type in brief.

Ans:- MODEM stands for MOdulator DEModulator. It allows a computer to send or receive information
through telephone lines. Modulator converts the digital information to analog mode at the transmitting
end and demodulator converts back the analog signals to digital at the receiving end.
Types of modems
➢ Internal Modem: - An internal modem comes pre-installed in the computer.
➢ External Modem: -It is a modem that is installed outside the CPU with the help of a USB port.
