What is a

Computer?
A computer is an electronic device that can be programmed to perform a
sequence of operations automatically. They are ubiquitous, used for
everything from simple tasks like sending emails to complex calculations
like designing airplanes.

Components of a Computer
Hardware Software

Physical components that can be touched. Examples Programs and instructions that tell the hardware what to
include the monitor, keyboard, mouse, hard drive, and do. Examples include operating systems, applications,
motherboard. and drivers.
Input Devices
1 Keyboard
Used to enter text and commands into the computer. Keyboards
come in a variety of layouts, including QWERTY, Dvorak, and
AZERTY.

2 Mouse
Used to control the cursor on the screen. Mice can be wired or
wireless and come in different sizes and shapes.

3 Scanner
Used to digitize images and documents. Scanners can be flatbed or
handheld.

4 Microphone
Used to record audio input. Microphones can be built-in to devices
or connected externally.
Output Devices
Monitor
Displays visual information from the computer. Monitors come in
different sizes, resolutions, and types, such as LCD, LED, and OLED.

Printer
Creates hard copies of documents and images. Printers can be inkjet,
laser, or thermal.

Speakers
Produce sound output from the computer. Speakers can be built-in or
connected externally.
Storage Devices
Hard Drive Primary storage device that
stores the operating system,
applications, and user data. Hard
drives can be magnetic, solid-
state, or hybrid.

Optical Drive Reads and writes data to optical
