Convert to number is taking too long

unsolved

Hello, when i use convert to number, it takes too long

but only if a spesific spreadsheet is opened (my main
working spreadsheet). There are lots of formulas but
non of them is related to numbers i tired to convert. I
close the main worksheet and converting to number is
instant. Also i tried separate instance and i had no
problem. There are some conditonal formatting on my
main worksheet, could that be there problem?

Where are you converting from? What I had to do

was convert in a separate sheet by itself, and then
paste into the working sheet.

The built-in function that converts to numbers in

Excel isn't very fast when the amount of date is
large. An easy workaround is to enter 0 (zero) in a
cell, copy this, select the range you want to
convert, select paste special, then as an operation
you choose to add. This adds 0 to every value
while also converting it to a number. You could of
course also choose a cell with 1 and choose to
multiply or divide by 1. Same thing. It's just more
obvious to spot an error if you use 0. If you
accidentally add 1 to every cell, you might not
notice, but you will notice if you accidentally
multiply every value by 0.

Another option is to make a macro, create a

hotkey for it and save it as an add-in you have
running in the background at all times.

Curious!! What kind of formulas? Sounds to me

like you have volatiles which run on ANY change,
and the more you have, the lag will increase.

Volatile functions include but not limited to

Indirect, Today, Now, Sumif, Offset and a few
others.

Not sure why I got so many downvotes...this

works a treat compared to converting text to
numbers which takes ages.

Would someone be able to explain for my own

better understanding?
